King County Employees Commute Options and Benefits Transit Benefit Your ID/ORCA card provides unlimited free rides on these regular services: Metro Transit, Community Transit, Everett Transit, and Sound Transit Express bus services. Link light rail Sounder commuter rail Seattle Streetcar To ride Sound Transit’s Sounder commuter train or Link light rail, you must tap your card on the platform reader before you board and again when you get off the train to record the correct fare. Your responsibility Your employee ID/ORCA card is owned by King County and it has been provided to you for your personal use only. You must not sell or transfer your assigned employee ID/ORCA card to another person or a family member. Additionally, fare enforcement officers on the Rail or Rapid Rides may confiscate your ID/ORCA card if it used by someone other than the employee. Contact your employee Transportation Program immediately if your card is confiscate by a fare enforcement officer. Vanpool Benefit King County benefit-eligible employees will receive up to $45 per month toward their fare for King County Metro Transit, Community Transit, Pierce Transit, or Kitsap Transit vanpools. Your responsibility As a vanpooler who receives the $45 subsidy, you are required to submit a copy of the front and back of your employee ID/ORCA card to your bookkeeper, program administrator and/or the ETP manager. Carpool, Bike, & Walk Benefit Employees who work outside downtown Seattle, can earn a $20 REI or Union 76 gift card for any month in which they carpool, bike, or walk to work at least 51% of their work days AND at least 51% of their commute miles. Responsibility To receive incentives, participating employees must complete the ETP registration form; log their commute in the ETP tracking form; and at the end of each quarter, complete a claim form. To receive incentive, participating employees must submit both their tracking form and claim form to their worksite coordinator at the end of each quarter. King County Water Taxi $ WSF Benefit Your King County employee ID/ORCA card allows you to ride free on the King County Water Taxi (serving Vashon Island-Downtown Seattle and West Seattle-Downtown Seattle). Your King County employee ID/ORCA card does not cover rides on Washington State Ferries (WSF). However, King County employees who commute as walk-on passengers on WSF can sign up (by completing a registration form ) for pre-tax payroll deduction to buy a separate ORCA card loaded each month with a passenger ferry pass. Responsibility To sign up for any of the WSF monthly passes, employee must fill out a registration form or contact the Employee Transportation Program at 206-263-4575. Home Free Guarantee Benefit King County Employees who come to work via bus, rail, streetcar, carpool, vanpool, biking, or walking are eligible for up to eight free taxi rides home each year in cases of personal emergency or unexpected requests to work overtime. Your responsibility You must not use the Home Free Guarantee for your other family members, even if they are covered as dependents for your other benefits. You also must not use the service: If you drove to work alone For getting to work For personal errands If your car is not working Planned medical and other appointments Business-related travel Working late without a supervisor’s request Early dismissal from work or office closure Region-wide weather emergencies that cause roads to be impassable Lost, stolen, or damaged ID/ORCA card Your ID/ORCA card provides employees great transportation benefits and it is the employees’ responsibility to make sure their card is not bent, scratched, damaged, or used by any other person than the employees. Immediately report a lost, stolen, or damaged ID card to the ID and Access Control Office (King County Administration Building, Room 312, 500 4 th Avenue in Seattle). ID and Access Control Office requires a 72 hour wait (from the time you report your card is lost) before issuing a new card. King County will replace nonworking and stolen cards free of charge, but employees will be charged $25 fee for replacing lost cards. If your card is stolen, report it to the police and provide the police report number to the ID and Access Control Office in order to have your card replacement free of charge.
