AACC is the primary advocacy, leadership, and service organization for community colleges in the United States. The association represents approximately 1,200 associate degree–granting institutions (all of which are regionally accredited) and more than 11 million students. AACC works with other sectors of the higher education community, state and federal governments, and business and industry to serve the needs of students, colleges, and communities. AACC is holding these tours to acquaint international students in Asia with the benefits of community colleges and to show you how these institutions are the gateway to higher education in the United States. Many students can begin their undergraduate studies at community colleges and finish with a bachelor’s degree at a 4-year college or university in the United States. Our colleges will work with students who graduate with an associate of arts or associate of science degree to make this transfer a reality. Community colleges offer a unique environment to their students. Classes are small, focus is on teaching and learning, technology is state-of-the-art, and special services for academic counseling, orientation to U.S. culture, and assistance with English language are widely available. Many community colleges have adopted a global focus and welcome international students to their campuses, emphasizing their mission of access and equity. The colleges participating in these fairs represent the wide variety of opportunities available to international students. Some are large and urban with several campuses, while others are in rural settings serving small student populations. All offer a wide variety of majors and in-demand programs. And they are committed to the success of every student. We look forward to welcoming you to the United States. George R.
