Brother Andre Live on EWTN Cable

The canonization of Blessed Brother André and five other blessed will be shown live on the EWTN Catholic Cable Network. EWTN is aired 24 hours a day on most cable networks throughout the United States.

The coverage by EWTN will begin at 3:30 am (Eastern Daylight Time)on Sunday, October 17, and will go for some two-and-a-half hours until 6 am. The canonization will be replayed at 12 Midnight on Monday, October 18. Check your local listings for the times in your area.

Canonized with Blessed Brother André are Australian Mother Mary MacKillop, the founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Stanislaw Soltys, a 15th-century Polish priest; Italian Giulia Salzano and Battista Varano, and Spanish Candida Maria de Jesus Cipitria y Barriola.

Brother Andre Film on EWTN This Week

A feature film about the life of Brother André and the perseverance it took to gain approval for the Montréal shrine to St. Joseph, to whom this future saint had a special devotion and to whom he counseled his visitors to pray will be shown on EWTN Catholic Cable Network at the following times. Midwest-Midweek to Cover Canonization in and Montreal

Midwest-Midweek on October 20, and November 3, will have coverage of the canonization of Blessed Brother Andre from Rome and the Mass of Thanksgiving in Montreal. Brother Charles McBride, who also covered the naming of Father Moreau Blessed in LeMans, France, three years ago, will cover these events. The October 27 edition of Midwest-Midweek will also include new pictures of the canonization in Rome. Brother will also provide photos of the events to Today’s Catholic and the South Bend Tribune.

Fr. Andre Displays His Collection on Blessed Brother Andre

A must see during this Month of October are the weekly displays Father Andre Leveille, CSC has on Blessed Brother Andre in Andre Place of Holy Cross Village. A Canadian by birth, Father Andre, Chaplain at Holy Cross Village, has gathered “everything Andre” over the years. Father is assisted by Br. Joseph Fox and Barbara Cassidy, the Village Director of Life Enrichment in creating the weekly displays. Brother Andre will be among six Blessed who will be names Saints of the Roman by Pope Benedict XVI in St. Peter’s Square, , Italy, on October 17. Blessed Brother Andre the “Miracle Man of Mt. Royal,” Montreal, Canada, is the first member of the Congregations of Holy Cross to be named a saint.

At 11:00 a.m. today (Wednesday, October 13) the six employees of Holy Cross Village going to Rome for the canonization will be given a farewell blessing in the Library of Dujarie House.

Brother Richard Gilman Honored as He Retires

Last Thursday, Brother Richard Gilman’s nearly 18 years as President of Holy Cross College was celebrated with a Mass in St. Joseph Chapel of the College followed by a gala at the Morris Park Country Club. Gilman is retiring effective December, 2010. WNDU's brother and sister news anchor team, Terry and Maureen McFadden acted as the Master's of Ceremony for the dinner at the country club. The popular award winning journalists are Holy Cross College alumni. Other guests from the Michiana community included South Bend Mayor Steve Luecke, Rick Rice, Chairman of the Holy Cross College Board of Trustees and Dr. Steven R. Cramer, President of Bethel College

Cathedral High School Alumni Awards Dinner

On Saturday, October 2, the Cathedral High School Alumni Board made their annual presentation of the following awards: for ‘Distinguished Service to the Community’ Mr. Mark Mahaffey Class of 1962; for ‘Outstanding Service to Cathedral’, Mr. John Kesterson and for ‘Distinguished Professional Achievement’, Mr. Joseph Peterson Class of 1957. Special recognition was also given to six members of the Class of 1970:Mr. Pat O’Connor, Mr. John Short, Mr. John Borel, Mr. John Flynn, Mr. Steve Schaefer and Mr. Jim McLinn. Acknowledgement was also given to the following classes of the Catholic academies and of Cathedral celebrating their 50th, 55th and 60th Reunions. Since their graduation in 1950, the class has given $95,930 to Cathedral High School.

Brother Joseph Berg Receives Centennial Medal

Brother Joseph Berg, receives his Centennial Medal from Sr. Donna Markham, Chair of the Board of Catholic Charities USA(CCUSA), and Fr. Larry Snyder, President of CCUSA, during special award ceremonies at the organization’s Centennial Annual Gathering held in Washington DC., September 25-28. The Centennial Medal was specially commissioned for CCUSA’s 100th Anniversary and presented to 100 distinguished recipients. Brother Joseph is considered a legend, not only for the length of time that he served, but also because he was recognized nationally as a leader in the field of leadership and organizational development.

Provincial Schedule

Brother Chester will be attending Br Andre’s canonization events in Rome from October 15 – 21, and will then continue on to Ghana for the Provincial Visit until returning to the United States on Nov. 2.
