Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father knowing ... fear not, you are more valuable than many sparrows. – Matthew 29:31 Page two 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time PPastor’sastor’s CCornerorner Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Today I want to offer a prayer for all the Dads on this Father’s Day: God our Father, in your wisdom and love you made all things. Bless these men, that they may be strengthened as Christian fathers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always with a spirit of profound respect. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Today is the Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The response to today’s Psalm is, “Lord, in your great love, answer me.” I find this very appropriate. I have been doing a lot of praying during the “lock down time” of the last three months. We were ready to celebrate the opening of our church in March, only to be told to stay home. We have all been through so much. I was so happy when the Bishop offered to bless our newly retrofitted and renovated church on June 14. Originally this was going to be just a livestream Mass. Then with the help of the Bishops of California, including Bishop Vann, as well as Bishop Jaime Soto, a native son of Orange County and Bishop of Sacramento, we were allowed by the Governor to open our churches on June 14.

Little girl, I say to you, arise! Mark 5:41 Page two 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time Pastor's corner Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, On this 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time, the Gospel Reading contains the cure of two seriously ill individuals. The daughter of Jairus, the synagogue official, was at the point of death and a woman had been afflicted with hemorrhages for twelve years. Can you imagine how frantic and anxious this father felt? His beloved daughter was dying and everyone around him was telling him to get ready for her death. Was this the same synagogue official who had scolded Jesus for curing on the sabbath? (See Luke 13:10-17) If so, did he remember that Jesus had cured the woman who had been unable to stand erect for eighteen years? The synagogue official searched for Jesus, and when he found him, begged him to come cure his dying daughter. While on his way, a woman who had been hemorrhaging for twelve years pushed through the crowd around Jesus and touched his cloak. Her flow of blood dried up and she felt cured. Has that ever happened to you? You were sick for a long time but finally started feeling better? Did you feel relief, joy, and many other emotions? This woman, who was now cured, heard Jesus say, “Who touched my clothes?” She became fearful.

  • STATEMENT on the APPOINTMENT of BISHOP JAIME SOTO AS COADJUTOR BISHOP of SACRAMENTO by Bishop William K
STATEMENT ON THE APPOINTMENT OF BISHOP JAIME SOTO AS COADJUTOR BISHOP OF SACRAMENTO by Bishop William K. Weigand Bishop of Sacramento October 11, 2007 I am grateful and delighted to announce that Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Auxiliary Bishop Jaime Soto, of the Diocese of Orange, as Coadjutor Bishop of Sacramento. As Bishop Soto prepares to help me to serve the People of God in the Diocese of Sacramento, I extend to him my heartfelt welcome to the Diocese and assure him of the prayers of all our people. I have known Bishop Soto for a number of years and have observed his good work. It pleases me to know that Bishop Soto will be helping me to shepherd this vast 20-county diocese. As Coadjutor, Bishop Soto, in due course, will succeed me as Diocesan Bishop. Bishop Soto, 51 years of age, is a native of Southern California and comes to us with very fine qualifications. He was ordained a priest in 1982 for the Diocese of Orange. He completed advanced studies at Columbia University in New York, where he obtained his Masters in Social Work (MSW) in 1986. In 1986, he was appointed Director of Catholic Charities of Orange and Vicar for Hispanics in 1989. In 1990, Bishop Soto was granted the title Monsignor by Pope John Paul II , who also appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of Orange in 2000, to assist Bishop Tod Brown. Bishop Soto is well known for his care and concern for people. I look forward to his serving beside me and with the many other dedicated priests, religious, and lay faithful here in Northern California.

SAINT BONAVENTURE CHURCH THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST | JUNE 6, 2021 As Christian stewards, our mission is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all people through word, sacrament, service and community life. Page two The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ Pastor's corner Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, How shall I make a return to the Lord for all the good he has done for me? The cup of salvation I will take up, and I will call upon the name of the Lord. These verses are found in Psalm 116, which is today’s Responsorial Psalm. These are the verses I had on the holy card I gave out on June 14, 1980, the day of my ordination to the Priesthood. The next verses of the Psalm say it well: My vows to the Lord I will pay in the presence of all his people. The following day, June 15, I celebrated my First Mass here at St. Bonaventure. Again, the verses of this Psalm cry out: To you will I offer sacrifice of thanksgiving, and I will call upon the name of the Lord. After forty-one years, the verses of Psalm 116 are still at the heart of my vocation to the Priesthood. Today is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (traditionally called Corpus Christi). Today we celebrate the greatest gift our Lord Jesus Christ gave us—the gift of himself. At the Last Supper, taking unleavened bread, Jesus pronounced the words, “Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my Body, which will be given up for you.” Then taking the chalice of wine, he said, “Take this, all of you, and drink from it, for this is the chalice of my Blood, the Blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
