'' Bus Tour Drives to 'First Day of Camp' Premiere

07.31.2015

Summer camp is back in session.

By now, most Wet Hot American Summer fans are busily bingeing the Netflix prequel Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, reuniting the star-studded cast of the 2001 cult classic.

But those hunkering down for another go-round at summer camp with , , , , , , , , , Molly Shannon (and oh so many more) are missing on some opportunities to get truly wet and hot with the rest of America this summer.

Enter the #WHASbustour (courtesy of @WetHot), a marketing campaign that began on July 21, featuring a WHAS-themed school bus travelling cross country to give a taste of Camp Firewood to new and old fans alike.

Armed with show themed goodies including caps, T-shirts and a myriad of photo opps with cutouts (how else are you going to pretend to be Paul Rudd?), the bus started its cross-country sojourn in City July 21, and visited Austin's South Shore District and then the Alamo Drafthouse on July 27.

Now, to coincide with its worldwide streaming premiere, the #WHASbustour has arrived in the LA area, stopping at The Brig (1515 Abbot Kinney Blvd) bar from 6 to 9 p.m. in Venice on Friday July 31, with local radio station KROQ hosting the event.

Starting at 6 p.m., #WHAS took over the bar, with $11 themed drink specials including Bug Juice, Camp Firewood and The Counselor (a shot of bourbon and a Miller High-Life). A myriad photo cutouts were strewn inside and outside of the bar, with buckets of Little Debbie's and free shirts and sunglasses to all Brig patrons. If you're smart enough to tweet @ #WHAS, fans also got a free hat.

During the festivities, #KROQ emceed games of giant Jenga and trivia, with winners getting a variety of prizes, including free tickets to an Awolnation concert, Universal Studios passes, a three-month subscription to Netflix and 25 Google Chromecast sticks.

The #WHAS fun doesn't stop on Friday, however.

On Saturday, Aug. 1, the bus trundles on to Griffith Park as part of Eat See Hear's summer outdoor screening series for a screening of the original Wet Hot American Summer film at 5:30 p.m., with food trucks, live music and a special screening of episodes one and two of First Day of Camp, with creator and special guests in attendance.

It's a good weekend to be young again.

Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp is streaming on Netflix now.
