Pensar que não sou a mesma menina que entrou na faculdade, receosa, com medo de tudo dar errado, pensando a todo momento em ligar para os pais e pedir para voltar para casa, é no mínimo, intrigante. Enquanto escrevo esta pequena parte desta grande pesquisa, me lembro de, nos primeiros dias de faculdade, ter escrito alguns versos sobre medo e angústias. Neles, a personagem principal havia saído do planeta Terra e viajado através de anos luz, com a nave mãe, até Marte – um lugar estranho povoado por alienígenas verdes, que falavam uma língua diferente. Todavia, quem diria que, alguns meses depois, Marte se tornaria aconchegante como seu antigo lar. Sou muito grata a tudo o que conquistei e a todos que estão comigo até hoje. A faculdade não foi apenas uma fase, mas uma jornada em que conheci pessoas que levarei para a vida, visitei lugares que nunca havia cogitado a possibilidade de conhecer e desbravei meu universo interior como nunca havia feito antes. Foi só durante estes últimos dias de trabalho a ficha caiu. Mais uma fase está terminando e com ela, novas incertezas surgirão... a única certeza que carrego é saber que não será a Carolina de 2016 que enfrentará esse percurso. E que nele, levarei comigo amizades incríveis que construí durante meu período em Marte, digo, na faculdade e todos os aprendizados que me tornaram a mulher que sou hoje. Palavras não são o suficiente para expressar minha gratidão por tudo o que aprendi e vivi nesta cidade. Mas, não posso deixar de citar o que cada pessoa me agregou durante esta aventura. A paixão e a sagacidade que carrego em mim devo aos meus pais. Obrigada por confiarem em mim durante esses quatro anos, por me deixarem seguir o sonho de estudar numa universidade federal, mesmo que ficasse a mais de mil quilômetros de distância de casa. Sem o contínuo apoio de vocês, eu nunca teria chegado tão longe. Vocês me inspiram a ser uma pessoa melhor todo dia. O meu lado criança é todo de vocês, Arthur, Monique e Lucas. Espero que possa ser um grande exemplo para vocês, assim como vocês – mesmo ainda sendo pequenos – são para mim. Obrigada por despertarem tudo o que há de melhor dentro de mim. A cada dia que passa, apesar da longa distância, me sinto cada vez mais próxima e conectada. Cada risada, cada brincadeira, cada briga; tudo isso me enche de força para conquistar o mundo para vocês. O meu crescimento pessoal também foi construído por vocês, Beatriz e Nathalia. Apesar de nossos horários e dias disponíveis nunca baterem, percebo o quanto nós crescemos desde que nos conhecemos. Vocês são mulheres incríveis que me inspiram todo dia. Amizades que levarei para o resto da vida, sou grata pela parceria nesses mais de seis anos juntas. Vocês fazem um bem imenso para mim. O meu lado pesquisador devo, sobretudo, a você, Roberta, por ter me incentivado, e acima de tudo, aceitado me orientar nesta fase final! Bom, eu ainda não tenho uma estrela na calçada da fama, mas espero que, algum dia possa pelo menos mobilizar massas e dar voz a diversos públicos como futura jornalista. Neste TCC eu inicio este trabalho, dando holofote à voz feminina sob uma indústria ainda considerada masculina. Obrigada a cada um, por terem me preenchido com tantas coisas boas nesses últimos anos. E a você, leitor deste trabalho, desejo boa leitura. Espero que possa agregar algo desta pesquisa, assim como todas as pessoas citadas neste simples agradecimento acrescentaram algo importante em mim. 7 RESUMO No Brasil, há quatro anos consecutivos as mulheres são maioria entre os jogadores, o que estabelece uma alteração social no que foi convencionado durante anos – de que o mercado de videogames era formado apenas por homens. A partir desta constatação, verificamos a necessidade de observar, para além do público jogador, como a participação feminina acontece na indústria dos games atualmente, em outras áreas relacionadas. Desta forma, este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a participação feminina neste mercado. Por muito tempo, apenas homens tinham a oportunidade de trabalhar na esfera pública da sociedade, em consequência, eles foram os responsáveis pela criação e desenvolvimento de diversos setores, inclusive, a indústria dos jogos. Para entender como se desenvolve a participação feminina neste cenário, utilizamos questionários semiestruturados entre sete mulheres atuantes na indústria, a fim de verificar se existe desigualdade de gênero e preconceito contra sua participação. Foi apurado que as mulheres ainda enfrentam situações discriminatórias, muitas vezes misóginas, conjuntura que reflete antigos padrões sociais. Mesmo assim, elas permanecem no mercado, fazem o que gostam e juntas, unem-se em prol de um cenário respeitoso e igualitário. Palavras-chave: Participação feminina, mercado de videogames, igualdade de gênero. 8 ABSTRACT In Brazil, for four consecutive years, women are the majority among players, which establishes a social change in what has been agreed for years – that videogame’s market was made up only of men. From this finding, we verified the need to observe, in addition to the gamer public, how female participation happens in the games’ industry today, in other areas related to games. Thus, this paper aims to analyze female participation in this market. For a long time, only men had the opportunity to work in the public ambit of society, as a result, they were responsible for the creation and development of various sectors, including the gaming industry. To understand how female participation develops, we used semi-structured questionnaires among seven women working in the industry to verify if there is gender inequality and prejudice against their participation. It was found out that women still face discriminatory situations, often misogynistic, a conjuncture that reflects old social patterns. Even so, they stay on the market, do what they like, and together they come together for a respectful and egalitarian scenario. The Group has continued to reduce external debt levels and this now provides us with a strong platform for growth. The formation of the Publishing Division in 2016 provided the cornerstone for our objective of creating a major UK video games publisher and this Division has seen significant growth in revenues and profits during 2017. The Board expects this to continue as Curve Digital establishes itself in the marketplace. If Kickstarter’s developers will be able to keep up with the industry leaders, using financing through crowdfunding, the platform might become a serious financial player similar to venture capitalists or angel investors.

The player controls the titular housewife, Karen, who is trapped in an unhappy marriage taking care of an ungrateful child, and must keep up appearances in the face of a home gone mad. The goal of this MQP was to create a fun, funny, and full-fledged game of high enough quality to be released on a major distribution platform such as Steam or the Epic Games Store. We also wanted to create a compelling narrative that deconstructed the nostalgia associated with the 1950s by telling a story from the often neglected and demeaned perspective of a 1950s suburban housewife. This report describes the production process of The Call of Karen, including details of the evolution and completion of the game’s design, art, gameplay, playtesting, and showcasing procedures. The game at the time of this report is functionally complete, and playtesting and showcasing results indicate that we did achieve our goal. As research on stakeholder interests in the production of crowdfunded video games is scarce, this study thus aims to fill a gap in scholarly literature. The purpose of this study is to contribute to the field of managing crowdfunding projects using a reward-based model, to examine stakeholder-developer interactions and the management of interests in crowdfunded video games, specifically from a manager’s point of view. The outcomes of this study should provide valuable insights for media managers, who deal with varying stakeholders as part of the development of a crowdfunded video game. The study examines seven cases of crowdfunded video games developed by video game companies using a reward-based financing model. It takes a qualitative approach, using semi-structured in-depth interviews with a sample of one employee per company in charge of the overall game development process. The results demonstrate the various ways in which stakeholders influence the development process, similarities and differences of crowdfunding projects of various size, and the impact of crowdfunding on the video game development process in general.

    D2.3 Best practices in serious games D2.3 Best practices in serious games Smart Toolbox for Engaging Citizens into a People-Centric Observation Web Abstract Whilst citizen participation in environmental policy making is still in its infancy, there are signs of a growing level of interest. The majority of citizens, though, both as individuals and as groups often feel disengaged from influencing environmental policies. They also remain unaware of publicly available information, such as the GEOSS or Copernicus initiatives. The SCENT project will alleviate this barrier. It will enable citizens to become the ‘eyes’ of the policy makers by monitoring land- cover/use changes in their everyday activities. This is done through a constellation of smart collaborative technologies delivered by the SCENT toolbox in TRLs 6-8. In this deliverable, we examine 28 serious games, mostly related to environmental protection and monitoring. By analyzing these games in relation to 4 components (game mechanics, story, aesthetics and technology), we aim at pinpointing best practices in the application of gamification techniques. Key learning points that will inform the work in Scent are also identified.
