“PASSPORT” OF THE REPUBLIC OF MORDOVIA Chuvash Republic Nizhniy Novgorod Region Ulyanovsk Region The Republic of Mordovia Ryazan is located in the European part Region of Russia, in the basin of the river Volga. SARANSK Territory – 26.1 th. km2 Population – 781.9 th. people (01/11/2020). Penza Region Saransk – administrative centre with the population of 347.0 th. people – is located 600 km far from Moscow. The Republic of Mordovia is part of the Volga federal district and borders with 5 regions of the Russian Federation. Administrative subdivision: 22 municipal districts, Saransk city district, 16 urban and 256 rural settlements (01/01/2020) Culture 6 professional theatres, including the State Russian Drama Theatre, the State Mordovia National Drama Theatre, the State Musical Theatre named after I.M.Yaushev, the State Puppet Theatre of the Republic of Mordovia and the Municipal Children’s Theatre, Cinema Centre “Kroshka” and ANO “The Studio Theatre “The Maly Art Alternative Theater”. 5 state concert organizations and independent groups – philharmonic, song- and-dance ensemble “Umarina”, Song Theatre “Rosichi”, jazz-orchestra “Big-band “Saransk”, folklore ensemble “Torama”; 496 public libraries with the book collection of approximately 6161.8 th. it., including 3 republican – the National library named after A.S.Pushkin, children’s library and Special Library for the Blind; 24 museums, including two republican: “The United Museum of Local Lore, History and Economy named after I.D. Voronin” with 9 branches, The Fine Arts Museum named after S.D. Erzya with 2 branches; 2 institutions of secondary vocational education: Saransk musical college named after L.P. Kiryukov and Saransk art college named after F.V. Sychkov; 38 children’s art schools (for different types of arts), including two republican – children’s choreography school and music boarding school for gifted children; 480 institutions of culture and leisure type (cultural centres, clubs, leisure centres) in which there are 2969 club formations (including 2280 amateur art groups of different genres); 852 historical and cultural monuments that have been taken under state protection (100 of them are the monuments of federal significance). These include: 545 historical monuments, 129 urban development and architectural monuments, 113 art monuments, 65 archaeological monuments. Education 5 higher education institutions (the largest – National Research Mordovia State University named after N.P. Ogarev, Mordovia Pedagogical State University named after M. E. Evsevyev, Saransk Cooperative Institute of the Russian University of Cooperation); 27 institutions of secondary vocational education; 225 schools, 11 lyceums, 7 gymnasiums. Basic raw materials deposits of marly-cretaceous mining and flask used for production of high- quality cement (explored reserves exceed 370 million cubic meters); deposits of diatomite – reserve balance is evaluated over 21 million cubic meters; mortar sand – 65.3 th. cubic meters claydite – 15.9 th. cubic meters (reserves of the unallocated fund) chalk stone – 10.4 million tons; building stone – 18.8 million cubic meters; peat – stocks volume 7.9 million tons; softwood and hardwood timber – 110.84 million cubic meters within the territory of 680.7 th. hectares; fumed oak; subsurface mineral water with explored exploitable volume of 573.6 cubic meters per day. Economic Infrastructure As of October 1, 2020, on the territory of the Republic of Mordovia, 2 regional (independent) and 2 branches of non-regional commercial banks (including 1 branch of PJSC Sberbank of Russia, as well as 212 credit institutions (branches), 2 representations and 2 mobile units; 131 points of sale of banking services operated in the regions of the Republic of Mordovia (61.8% of the total number of operating points of banking services sale in the region). Structural changes have been continued in the banking sector. Compared to the beginning of October 2019, the number of independent banks has not changed, while the number of branches of non-regional banks operating in the territory of the Republic of Mordovia has decreased by one. At the same time, the amount of structural divisions of credit institutions (branches), compared to the beginning of October 2019, decreased by 4 units. At the same time, the level of provision of banking services for the population of the Republic of Mordovia remains very high. Gross regional product (billion roubles) In 2018 gross regional product increased in Mordovia. In 2018 gross regional product made RUR 227.3 mlrd. in absolute prices, volume index increase rate as related to 2017 – 100.7%. In 2018 gross regional product per capita (in absolute prices) made RUR 284.0 th., increased by 6.4% to the level of the previous year. By this index Mordovia occupied the 10th place in the Volga Federal District. The structure of gross regional product in 2018: Manufacturing production – 26%; agriculture, forestry, hunting and fishery – 14 %; whole-sale and retail trade, vehicles and motor cycles repair – 10.7%; construction – 7.3%. Innovative infrastructure In the framework of the State programme of scientific and innovative development of the Republic of Mordovia (approved by the resolution of the Government of the Republic of Mordovia dated 20 May 2013 No. 183) formed the main infrastructure elements of the innovation activities: Technopark in the sphere of high technology, Industrial park, Innovation clusters, Technology transfer centre, Agency of innovative development of the Republic of Mordovia. Transport Infrastructure 13649.1 km – length of public highways including federal – 408.9 km (М5 “Ural”, 1Р 158 “Nizhny Novgorod – Arzamas – Saransk”, 1Р 178 “Saransk – Surskoye – Ulyanovsk”), regional – 5145.4 km and local – 8094.8 km. Regular passenger transportation on the territory of the Republic of Mordovia is carried out on 260 routes of regular transportation of road transport and land electric transport, including 157 municipal routes; 103 inter-municipal routes. In addition, the Republic of Mordovia is connected with other regions by 28 interregional routes. In the territory of the Republic of Mordovia railroad is represented by 3 JSC “Russian Railways” branches: “Kuibishev Railways”, “Gorky Railways”, “Moscow Railways”. Railroad length in the republic makes 562 km including “Kuibushev Railways” – 328 km, “Gorky Railways” – 170 km, “Moscow Railways” – 64 km. In total suburb passenger companies provide services for 119 stations and railway stops. 4 railway stations operate in the republic. JSC “Mordovia Airlines” provide airport services for receiving and dispatching aircrafts. Airport of Saransk is a federal international B-class air-port located 4.7 km to the south-east of Saransk. In 2017 it was utterly reconstructed, a new terminal was erected. Airdrome fits for the following aircrafts operation: Ан-12, 24, Ил-18, Ту- 134, Як-40, 43, Airbus A319/320/321, RRJ-95, CRI-100/200, B-737-300/400/500, Embraer-170/175/190/195, etc. Aircraft park comprises of 4 passenger crafts Ан- 24, 12 light multi-function planes Ан-2, 1 CRJ-200. Ан-2/24/26/26-100Д2; ИЛ-18; ЯК-40/42; ТУ-134; Embraer-120; АТР- 42/72; CRJ-100/200; Superjet-100; Diamond DA-42; Aircraft of class 3 and 4, helicopters of all types; АН-148; А-319/320/321; Embraer-170/175/190/195; Boeing-737; Cessna-208B. Airport has 1 artificial runway of the size of 2801.8 x 42 m. Regular passenger service is carried out with Moscow (DME, SVO) as well as with Saint Petersburg, Sochi, Simferopol, Yekaterinburg, Mineral Vodi. A new passenger terminal with the total square of 7000.0 sq.m. possesses the capacity of 600 passengers per hour. Presently the airport is connected with the centre of the city by the bus route No. 29 Airport – Railway Station – Saransk centre. Industrial complex The industrial sector plays a leading role in the economy of the Republic of Mordovia, the major share of the industrial sector (more than 90%) belongs to manufacturing industries. The most significant branches of industrial production at the end of 2020 are: Food production – share in total amount of shipped products made up 30%. Large and medium-sized enterprises of the processing industry shipped products to consumers in the amount of RUR 58.7 mlrd.
