Later that same year, he was elected superior of the Jesuit province of Argentina and Uruguay. In 1980, he returned to San Miguel as a teacher at the Jesuit school, a job rarely taken by a former provincial superior.

    Lord, let your face shine on us. -Psalm 4 The Resurrection of the Dead by John Gillman Ph.D. Every Sunday when professing our faith in unison, we come to the last phrase in the Nicene Creed: “I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.” Yes, of course, who would not look forward to a better world, indeed a much better world than the one we now know. But it is that prior expression, “resurrection of the dead” that I find perplexing. The Catechism puts it more graphically, “We believe in the true resurrection of this flesh” (1017). Our lived experience seems to belie such an outlandish belief. All around us we notice that living beings, including human bodies gradually age, eventually die, and then deteriorate. St. Paul was seemingly mocked when he spoke about the resurrection of dead to the sophisticated Corinthians who objected, to paraphrase: “Really Paul! Ramon Bejarano, pastor of the Cathedral of the Annunciation in Stockton, to be an auxiliary bishop of San Diego, CA. Fr. Bejarano, now Bishop-elect Bejarano, becomes the first priest ordained for the Diocese of Stockton to become bishop. He was ordained for our diocese by the Most Rev. Donald Montrose in 1998 and went on to be the founding pastor of Holy Family parish in Modesto as well as pastor of St. Stanislaus Church in Modesto. He served also as parochial vicar in the parishes of St. George in Stockton and Sacred Heart in Turlock. Bishop Myron J. Cotta said of the pope’s decision to elevate Fr. Bejarano: “It is with great pride and joy – but also some sadness – that we see Fr. Bejarano achieve this tremendous honor. Our Holy Father has chosen very wisely in selecting this outstanding priest, a loving shepherd of God’s People and a friend to many in our diocese and community. He goes to this holy post with our gratitude, our love and our prayers.” Bishop-elect Bejarano was born in Seagraves, Texas, on July 17, 1969, the son of José Bejarano and María Elena Silva. He spent his early life in Aldama, Chihuahua, México. He felt the call to become a priest at an early age.

    April 4, 2021 | Easter Sunday Happy Easter! Happy, happy Easter! This is the Day that our Lord has made - let us be glad and rejoice in it!! Our dear Lord Jesus has risen from the dead, just like He promised He would! He has proven once and for all that He is the Son of God. Rejoice! As we celebrate Easter with family members and friends, let us keep in mind the real reason for this celebration - the Resurrection of Jesus from the tomb! It is not about the gatherings, the ham dinners, the Easter egg hunts, the kids' Easter baskets, enjoying the sunshine and warmer weather (hopefully), but it is about thanking God for sending His Only Begotten Son to lead us to God, to die for our sins, and to open the gates of Heaven for those who love Him.
