Barber, SJ, told them, “you are called and chosen” and told them what serving means today. In front of a crowded Cathedral of Christ the Light Bishop Barber told them he was zeroing in on the third vow they would take shortly, to celebrate the Mass and administer the Sacrament of Confession worthily. “You will never violate the Seal of Confession,” Bishop Barber told the three new priests. “No state or government can oblige you to betray your penitents.” Legislation — SB 360 — has passed the state Senate and is moving to the Assembly. It will compel a priest to reveal to police some sins he hears in confession. The new priests, John Anthony Pietruszka, 32, Javier Ramirez, 43, and Mark Ruiz, 56, listened attentively. Father Pietruszka is from Fall River Massachusetts; Father Ramirez from Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico; and Mark Father Ruiz was born and raised in Oakland. They would not be alone, the bishop assured them. To show that support, more than 70 VOICE CATHOLIC PACCIORINI/THE C. ALBERT priests, mostly diocesan, were present to With Bishop Michael C. NRVC chose to take a closer look at our future, challenges, and hopes... Dear Friend of NRVC, In preparation for the 2008 presidential election, Americans around the country examined their values and priorities, and compared them with those of our two presidential candidates, so that they would be well-informed about the country’s present challenges and their own hopes for the country’s future. In a similar fashion, last year NRVC chose to take a closer look at our future, our challenges and our hopes so that we can be well- informed about what lies ahead. Our first priority was to launch a major study on vocations to religious life, in collaboration with the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA), which we did in the fall. When the results are finally released later this year, the “best practices” gleaned from this study will serve as a guide for religious insti- tutes to develop their future, vocation strategies. Complementing this project, the annual VISION survey from VocationMatch.com in- dicates a rise in the number of inquiries to religious life for the third year in a row—another hopeful sign for our future! Our Executive Board is also looking to secure the future of NRVC by identifying our major priorities for the coming three years as our previous strategic plan will be completed in 2010. The need, the energy, and the passion to promote new membership in religious life are there. I felt it in Louisville, KY, where approximately 450 vocation ministers processed through the downtown streets raising vocation awareness.

Let us remember: What hurts the victim most is not the cruelty of the oppressor, but the silence of the bystander. Concentration camp survivor Elie Wiesel Our “Catholic” Bishops’ Depraved and Calculated Indifference: One Devastating Result Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam Roman Catholic Faithful Spring 2003 Our Mission Statement Roman Catholic Faithful, Inc. (RCF) is a lay organization, with many religious members, dedicated to promoting orthodox Catholic teaching and fighting heterodoxy and corruption within the Catholic hierarchy. Our Philosophy While we accept the authority of the Holy Father and all bishops in union with him, we will not sit idly by, nor blindly follow, while many in the hierarchy allow the Holy Catholic Church to be torn apart and assaulted by the forces of Modernism, Syncretism, Heresy, and the gross immorality of some of its clergy. As parents and teachers, we will not allow our Catholic youth to be robbed of their faith or have their innocence destroyed in the name of “tolerance”, “ecumenism”, “diversity” or any other politically correct ideology of the day. We object to individuals or groups of individuals being given access to Catholic schools, churches, and Church property to promote any belief, teaching, or idea contrary to Catholic teaching as defined by two thousand years of Tradition and Church teaching. We expect every Catholic priest to follow the disciplines of the Catholic Church as he promised. We expect every bishop to do all he can to safeguard the souls of our children by exercising his authority to ensure proper teaching within Catholic schools and parish religion programs.

  • STATEMENT on the APPOINTMENT of BISHOP JAIME SOTO AS COADJUTOR BISHOP of SACRAMENTO by Bishop William K
STATEMENT ON THE APPOINTMENT OF BISHOP JAIME SOTO AS COADJUTOR BISHOP OF SACRAMENTO by Bishop William K. Weigand Bishop of Sacramento October 11, 2007 I am grateful and delighted to announce that Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Auxiliary Bishop Jaime Soto, of the Diocese of Orange, as Coadjutor Bishop of Sacramento. As Bishop Soto prepares to help me to serve the People of God in the Diocese of Sacramento, I extend to him my heartfelt welcome to the Diocese and assure him of the prayers of all our people. I have known Bishop Soto for a number of years and have observed his good work. It pleases me to know that Bishop Soto will be helping me to shepherd this vast 20-county diocese. As Coadjutor, Bishop Soto, in due course, will succeed me as Diocesan Bishop. Bishop Soto, 51 years of age, is a native of Southern California and comes to us with very fine qualifications. He was ordained a priest in 1982 for the Diocese of Orange. He completed advanced studies at Columbia University in New York, where he obtained his Masters in Social Work (MSW) in 1986. In 1986, he was appointed Director of Catholic Charities of Orange and Vicar for Hispanics in 1989. In 1990, Bishop Soto was granted the title Monsignor by Pope John Paul II , who also appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of Orange in 2000, to assist Bishop Tod Brown. Bishop Soto is well known for his care and concern for people. I look forward to his serving beside me and with the many other dedicated priests, religious, and lay faithful here in Northern California.
