Artist Richard Deacon has selected a broad range of works by over 30 artists spanning the last 105 years on the idea of ‘abstraction’ in drawing. Deacon says: ‘This exhibition has no ambitions to be a universal survey, but in selecting a show around the idea of abstract drawing, these various strands – inscriptive, calligraphic, ornamental, generative, individuating and identifying – have all featured.’ Richard Deacon CBE is one of the most important British sculptors of his generation and has exhibited internationally since the early 1980s. He won the Turner prize in 1987, and a major retrospective exhibition of his work is presented at Tate Britain in 2014 (5 February – 27 April). The activity of drawing is crucial to his work as a sculptor, which engages with processes and means of manufacture. This deep interest in making as an activity is evident in his selection of works for Abstract Drawing. The earliest works exhibited here are drawings made in 1906 by Swedish artist Hilma af Klint, recently heralded as producing the earliest forms of Western abstraction, and in 1917/18 by Kazimir Malevich, regarded as the father of abstraction. -

We focused on our goals of cutting delays in applications, improving the quality of our work and increasing the efficiency of procedures. In particular, we were pleased to be able to eliminate the backlog in trade mark examination and reduce the backlog in oppositions during the course of the year. The OHIM processed some 75 000 trade mark applications in 2004 – thus eliminating the backlog of 35 000 applications that existed at the end of 2003. This remarkable progress was achieved by doubling the number of examinations, formalities checks and publications achieved in 2004 compared to 2003. The result is that 90% of trade mark applications are now published within 10 months of receipt. -

The historic avant-gardes of the early 20th century and the neo- avant-gardes in the 1960s and 70s created a time of radical manifestos. 2. We now live in a time that is more atomised and has less cohesive artistic movements. 3. At this moment, there is a reconnection to the manifesto as a document of poetic and political intent. 4. This is a declaration of artistic will and new-found optimism. 5. New modes of publication and production are a means to distribute ideas in the form of texts, documents, and radical pamphlets. 6. This futurological congress presents manifestos for the 21st century. The Project 15 Fundación Bienal Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo de Sevilla (Biacs) www.fundacionbiacs.com 1 Press Release Seville, August 2008 The Biacs3 will invite the public to discover a “new universe” – youniverse The third edition of the International Biennial of Contemporary Art of Seville, to be held from 2 October 2008 to 11 January 2009, will occupy the main exhibition site at the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (CAAC) and branch out into public spaces in Seville and other Andalusian provinces, Córdoba y Granada In the global context of the information and communication society, the third edition of the International Biennial of Contemporary Art of Seville (Biacs3), which will be held from 2 October 2008 to 11 January 2009, will make a new map of Global Art, World Art, addressing the specific aspect of media, environment and technology. Under the title ‘youniverse’, the Biennial of Seville will show how contemporary art worldwide has changed through the influence of media, technology, science and architecture. The artistic curatorial team appointed to plan the contents of the Biacs3 – consisting of Peter Weibel, general director of the ZKM Centre for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany, Wonil Rhee, guest curator of PS1MoMA 2009, Korean curator, and Marie-Ange Brayer, director of the Regional Centre of Contemporary Art of Orleáns, France – aims to adopt an interdisciplinary approach to the general theme of the exhibition. -
