The End Times as Seen Through the and Zephaniah Susie Shellenberger Ministries

As we study Joel, try to catch his vision of the ______and ______of God and of His ultimate judgment on sin. Choose to follow, obey and ______God alone as your sovereign Lord.

There are three major days spoken of in Scripture: 1. The Day of ______(1 Corinthians 4:3). 2. The Day of ______(1 Corinthians 1:7-8; 2 Corinthians 1:14; Philippians 1:6). 3. The Day of the ______( 2:12 and 13:6; 30:3). NOTES

Bible scholars have given us four ways to interpret the book of Revelation: a. ______view b. ______view c. ______view d. ______view NOTES “Our food will disappear before our eyes; all joy and gladness will be ended in the Temple of our God. The seed rots in the ground; the barns and granaries are empty; the grain has dried up in the fields.

“The cattle groan with hunger; the herds stand perplexed, for there is no pasture for them; the sheep bleat in misery.

“Lord, help us! For the heat has withered the pastures and burned up all the trees. Even the wild animals cry to you for help, for there is no water for them. The creeks are dry, and the pastures are scorched.” (:16-20 LB)

“Sound the alarm in ! Let the blast of the warning trumpet be heard upon my holy mountain! Let everyone tremble in fear, for ’s judgment approaches.” (Joel 2:1 LB)

“It is a day of darkness and gloom, of black clouds and thick darkness. What a mighty army! It covers the mountains like night! How great, how powerful these “people” are! The likes of them have not been seen before, and never will again throughout the generations of the world!” (Joel 2:2 LB)

“Fire goes before them and follows them on every side! Ahead of them the land lies fair as Eden’s Garden in all its beauty, but they destroy it to the ground; not one thing escapes.” (Joel 2:3 LB) NOTES

The four horsemen are revealed in Revelation by the unveiling of the first ______of seven seals. Each horseman represents a different facet of the Tribulation.

1.______horse 2._____ horse 3.______horse 4.______horse

“They look like tiny horses, and they run as fast.” (Joel 2:4 LB)

Under a microscope, the face of a locust looks just like a ______. In fact, one of the ancient Greek words used for locusts is “little horse.”

“Look at them leaping along the tops of the mountain! Listen to the noise they make, like the rumbling of chariots, or the roar of fire sweeping across a field, and like a mighty army moving into battle.” (Joel 2:5 LB)

When locusts descend upon an area, they make the sound of a low ______.

“Fear grips the waiting people; their ______grow pale with fright. These “soldiers” charge like infantry; they scale the walls like picked and trained commandos. Straight ______they march, never breaking ranks.” (Joel 2:6-7 LB) “Then locusts came from the ______and descended onto the earth and were given power to sting like scorpions. They were told not to hurt the grass or plants or trees, but to attack those people who did not have the mark of God on their foreheads.

“They were not to kill them, but to torture them for ______months with agony like the pain of scorpion stings. In those days men will try to kill themselves but won’t be able to—death will not come. They will long to die—but death will flee away!

“The locusts looked like ______armored for battle. They had what looked like golden crowns on their heads, and their faces looked like men’s.

“Their hair was long like women’s, and their teeth were those of ______. They wore breastplates that seemed to be of iron, and their wings roared like an army of chariots rushing into battle.

“They had stinging ______like scorpions, and their power to hurt, given to them for five months, was in their tails.” (:3-10 LB)

We can see that Joel—way back here at the beginning of the writing prophets—prepares the ground for the apostle ______to come later and give the detailed description of the locusts as they’ll appear in the Day of the Lord.

“They never crowd each other. Each is right in place. No ______can stop them. They swarm upon the city; they run upon the walls; they climb up into the ______, coming like thieves through the windows. The earth quakes before them and the heavens tremble. The sun and moon are obscured and the stars are hid.” (Joel 2:8-10 LB)

Why is Joel declaring this? Hope through repentance NOTES “The Lord leads them with a shout. This is his mighty army and they follow his orders. The day of the judgment of the Lord is an awesome, terrible thing. Who can endure it?” (Joel 2:11 LB).

This is the ______time Joel has mentioned the Day of the Lord.

“Unless those days are shortened, all mankind will perish. But they will be shortened for the sake of God’s chosen people.” (:22 LB)

When Joel asks, “Who can endure it” The “it” is the ______, which begins in darkness (the Great Tribulation).

“That is why the Lord says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me all your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, mourning.” (Joel 2:12 LB)
