BLUEPRINTS FOR THE COMING REVIVAL TYLER MILLER 8.05.2012

I. THE END‐TIME OUTPOURING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

A. The prophesies that the greatest outpouring of the Holy Spirit of all time is yet to come. The coming revival will happen before returns in the midst of a great, God‐orchestrated End‐Time shaking [Heb. 12:26‐30].

Haggai 2:6,7 "Thus says the LORD… ‘I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; 7 'and I will shake all nations, and they [the nations] shall come to the Desire of All Nations [Jesus Christ], and I will fill this temple with glory,' says the LORD of hosts.

B. This outpouring of the Holy Spirit will cause two things to happen.

1. It will result in a Great Harvest of Souls [Rev. 7:9‐14]. Millions of unbelieving Jews and Gentiles will call upon the name of the Lord and be saved. Jesus will be called the “Desire of All Nations.”

2. It will result in a Glorious Church [Eph. 5:27]. The Church will be refined and purified, made ready for the Second Coming of Christ. The ‘temple’ will be filled with glory.

C. Many Christians are believing God for a ‘revival’ of their own making. They are hoping for a little more excitement in their services or more signs and wonders to get people excited about their ministries. We must know what the Bible says about this revival, how to enter into it, and what it is all for.

D. The Prophet declared that in the generation of the Lord’s return God would pour out His Spirit on all flesh. This will happen “before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.” All flesh will be drastically affected by this outpouring, causing millions to accept or reject Jesus as their Lord.

Joel 2:28‐32 “It shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. 29 And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. 30 And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: blood and fire and pillars of smoke. 31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD. 32 And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the LORD has said, among the remnant whom the LORD calls.

II. TURNING TO GOD WITH WHOLEHEARTEDNESS

A. Joel makes it clear that this great revival will not come at random. Corporate breakthrough will only come after turning to God with corporate wholeheartedness. Wholeheartedness before God is defined by gathering together in repentance, prayer, and fasting [Joel 2:12‐17]. Joel was saying, “When you cry out to the Lord with fasting and prayer, afterwards He will bless you by releasing His Spirit.”

Joel 2:12, 13 “Turn to Me with all your heart, With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning."13 So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the LORD your God…

Joel 2:28 “It shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh…

B. This same model of corporate wholeheartedness was followed by the disciples before the outpouring of the Spirit on the Day of . Jesus promised that if they tarried in prayer, the Spirit would endue them with power and make them witnesses in all the earth.

Luke 24:49 “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.

Acts 1:8 “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…”

C. In Acts 1‐2, there were one hundred twenty disciples gathered together for prayer in the upper room. They believed God for the promise given by Jesus and after ten days the Spirit came like rushing wind [Acts 1:14‐2:4]. Peter explained this visitation of the Spirit as being that which Joel prophesied.

Acts 2:14‐16 “Peter … said to them, “Men of Judea … let this be known to you … 15 these are not drunk, as you suppose … 16 but this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel.”

D. When Peter said that “this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel,” he was not only emphasizing the fact that God would pour out His spirit, but the conditions that brought it forth. Peter was referring to the whole context to Joel 2, not just the end result of it.

E. Joel 2:12‐15 teaches us how we position ourselves to receive the full breakthrough of God’s Spirit. Few are doing this today! The pattern of corporate prayer and fasting has been followed throughout church history resulting in many great revivals. More and more in the Church today are seeing the importance of gathering in corporate intercessory worship until God releases the fullness of His blessing.

Joel 2:15,16 “Blow the trumpet in Zion, Consecrate a fast, Call a solemn assembly; 16 Gather the people, Sanctify the congregation, Assemble the elders, Gather the children and nursing babes…”

III. CONTENDING FOR THE FULLNESS OF JOEL 2

A. The outpouring of the Spirit that Joel prophesied of was not completely fulfilled in Peter’s generation. was only a down payment of Joel 2. The fullness of what Joel prophesied has still not yet happened. This is evidenced by the significant differences between Joel 2 and Acts 2.

B. Joel prophesied of a worldwide outpouring of the Spirit on all flesh or on all nations. In Acts 2, the Spirit only rested on 120 local Jewish believers in Jerusalem, and then on 3,000 who were saved that day. The fullness of Joel’s requires a global dimension.

Joel 2:28 “I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.

C. Unlike Acts 2, the Outpouring of the Spirit will have a primary manifestation of the Spirit of Prophecy. There will be an unprecedented release of prophecy (prophetic insight and impressions), visions (supernatural prophetic images), and dreams (prophetic night visions).

D. In the days of Joel the Spirit of Prophecy had only been released to a small group in the era. However, Joel prophesied that the Spirit would be poured out on all flesh‐ Jew and Gentile, men and women, young and old. Every End‐Time believer was to receive supernatural prophetic activity.

Joel 2:29 “On My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit…

E. The Spirit of Prophecy involves many important dynamics for the End‐Time Church. Above all the Spirit of Prophecy is the ‘testimony of Jesus’ – revealing who He is, what He’s like, and what He will do at the end of the age.

Revelation 19:10 “Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

John 16:13,14 “The Spirit of truth… will guide you into all truth… He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me… He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.”

1. It builds up and equips the body of Christ [1 Cor. 14:3,4] 2. It leads us in strategic intercession [Rom. 8:26,27] 3. It exposes false teaching and deception [John 16:13; 1 Jn. 4:1‐3] 4. It gives us warning and direction [Is. 30:21; Acts 16:6,7] 5. It discerns false signs and wonders [Matt. 24:4,5, 11,24]

F. Pursing the Spirit of Prophecy is essential for the Church today. It is something we can contend for now with sustained prayer and fasting. Paul exhorts us to seek the greater gifts, especially that of prophecy.

1 Corinthians 12:31 “But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.

1 Corinthians 14:1 “Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy

1 Corinthians 14:39 “Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues.”
