O AFASTAMENTO ENTRE CENA E MÚSICA, CORPO E VOZ NO TEATRO MUSICAL: O DILUIR ATRAVÉS DOS VIEWPOINTS LARISSA FELIPE DE MELO CINTRA RESUMO: Esta investigação tem como propósito a reflexão acerca do afastamento entre cena e música, voz e corpo dentro do Teatro Musical. Partindo do contexto histórico, sociocultural e técnico do género até à proposta de uma possível solução para esta fenda. Interessa-se em desvendar os fragmentos da problemática do afastamento, trazendo o leitor para o cerne da questão. Posteriormente, utiliza-se dos Viewpoints, filosofia traduzida em método de trabalho segundo Anne Bogart, para o desenvolvimento de um Treinamento de Viewpoints, específico para o ator de Teatro Musical. Inclui no pensamento teórico, a prática relatada a partir de um Laboratório experimental. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Teatro Musical, Viewpoints, Integração, Afastamento, Possibilidade. From the historical, socio-cultural and technical context of the genre to a possible solution proposal for this gap. It is interested in unraveling the fragments of distance problems, bringing the reader to the subject of the question. Subsequently, it uses the Viewpoints, the philosophy translated into a work method, according to Anne Bogart, for the development of a specific training of Viewpoints for the Musical Theater ator.     A WORD FROM THE PRODUCERS Michael Holzer Jacque Carnahan One year ago, we came together at the Gershwin Theatre for the very first Arts for Autism concert. Dozens of Broadway actors joined more than 150 young performers to take part in a show that inspired, educated and entertained us. It was uplifting to see so many passionate artists collaborate to raise awareness, encourage acceptance and to celebrate the power of the arts. We also witnessed the Broadway debut of Gina Hitsos, a young singer with autism who found her voice through the magic of music. There was an infectious feeling of love, excitement and optimism as everyone left the theatre that night. After a year of planning and projects we are back! We have many new and exciting developments since last June. After debuting a special arrangement of “Defying Gravity” in last year’s concert, we released a music video to share the beautiful message with an even wider audience. In February, we ventured out to the Ice Plant Recording studios in Queens with three former Broadway Elphabas from Wicked to reimagine the song we know and love. You can find the video on our website at ArtsForAutism.net. In May, we joined Autism Speaks at MetLife Stadium for the Northern New Jersey Walk. We were thrilled to be there and show our support. Jacque and our talented musicians serenaded and entertained the walkers; it was wonderful to see firsthand the positive impact that music can have. Now it’s June, and here we are again at the Gershwin Theatre.

    Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story?: Gendered Legacies in Hamilton JESSICA SEYMOUR Hamilton: An American Musical, written, composed by, and starring Lin- Manuel Miranda, made its Broadway debut in August 2015. Since then, Hamilton has won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a record-breaking sixteen Tony Award nominations. Miranda also received a $625,000 MacArthur Fellowship, more commonly referred to as a “Genius Grant”. Hamilton has been heralded as a game-changer for Broadway musicals, starring a racially- diverse cast and supported by contemporary music styles including rap, hip hop, and jazz. It is one of the most popularly successful musicals in recent memory, inspired by the life and times of American founding-father Alexander Hamilton. One of the key themes in the Hamilton musical is the concept of legacy. In historical terms, a legacy is handed down from one generation to another. Glenn Llopis writes in an article for Forbes that leaving a legacy should be a key concern for leaders who want to perform to the best of their ability in business: “The best leadership legacies are a consequence of success coming to those who are surrounded by people that want their success to continue.” Other authors and analysts (see Kerr, Wallace, Hunt, Galford and Maruca) write that workers can and should tailor their careers to suit the personal legacy they wish to leave behind.     ARIANA DEBOSE Biography Ariana DeBose is a Tony-nominated actress and 2021 Forbes 30 under 30 honoree known for her varying roles on stage as well as on screen. DeBose is perhaps best known for her role as “Disco Donna” in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, which earned her a 2018 Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. For the same role, she was nominated for a Drama League Award for “Distinguished Performance” and won a Chita Rivera Award for “Outstanding Female Dancer in a Broadway Show.” Most recently, DeBose starred in Ryan Murphy's Netflix adaptation of the hit-Broadway musical THE PROM, which premiered on December 11th, where she played the role of Alyssa alongside Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Kerry Washington and James Corden. In December 2021, DeBose will be seen in Steven Spielberg’s highly anticipated reimagining of the Academy Award-winning musical WEST SIDE STORY. DeBose was chosen from thousands of actresses to portray the iconic role of Anita, which earned Rita Moreno an Oscar in 1962. DeBose recently joined the cast of Lorne Michaels’ untitled Apple TV+ Brigadoon-inspired musical comedy series starring Kristin Chenoweth, Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong.
