Meehan Auditorium–Immediately to the right when entering the front lobby doors 1 3 Emergency Care and Coverage by Venue Brown Stadium The following Medical Emergency Action Plan will be posted at Brown Stadium at appropriate locations near telephones. BROWN UNIVERSITY MEDICAL EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN BROWN STADIUM 1. Assess situation, establish level of consciousness, extent of injuries 2. (A) CALL 401-863-4111 (B) 3-4111 from a campus phone (C) From a blue light emergency telephone, press the RED emergency button and phone will automatically dial Public Safety Blue light emergency telephones are located: o At entrance gates on Elmgrove Avenue o In dugout on Brown home sideline The Dispatcher will need the following information: a. NAME & TELEPHONE NUMBER OF CALLER b. CONDITION OF INJURED PERSON c. TREATMENT INITIATED BY FIRST RESPONDER d. SPECIFIC LOCATION OF INJURED PERSON (SEE DIRECTIONS) DIRECTIONS: Instruct EMS to come to Brown Stadium entrance on Elmgrove Avenue. Once inside main gate, drive to gate at left side of parking lot. Take an immediate right once through gate, proceed 100 yards and then drive into stadium through gate on the right of the scoreboard. 3. AED LOCATIONS: o During football games, there is a mobile critical care unit on-site with advanced life support (ALS)/emergency medical technician (EMT) personnel located to the right of the scoreboard near the NE entrance to the playing field. If this ambulance is busy with a patient, follow the procedure above. o An AED is available for athletic trainers covering home games or meets. 4. Send someone to meet EMS at the entrance to Brown Stadium on Elmgrove Avenue. MEDICAL EMERGENCY CONTACT NUMBERS For any emergency call Brown Public Safety 401-863-4111 Erin Variano – Head Football Athletic Trainer 401-528-9064 (cell) 401-863-3851 (Office) John Furtado, Director of Sports Medicine 609-240-5855 (cell) 401-863-3851 (Office) Main Athletic Training Room – OMAC 401-863-3851 Brown University Student Health Services 401-863-3953 Rhode Island Hospital Emergency Room 401-444-4000 4 ● Location: Brown Stadium Sport: Football, Men’s & Women’s Track and Field, or any sport using this facility Event: Practice, game, or meet Nearest AED Location: If available, with Brown sports medicine staff or with EMS unit if on site. If on site, a Certified Athletic Trainer and Team Physician will assess the situation and initiate Basic Life Support (BLS) and emergency First Aid (FA) procedures. If a Certified Athletic Trainer is not on site, the coach (first responder) will assess the situation and initiate BLS procedures. EMS will be notified by a Certified Athletic Trainer, coach, or facilities event coordinator by using a cellular phone or blue light emergency telephone, which is located on Elmgrove Avenue at the entrance gates to the stadium. EMS will be instructed to come to the Stadium and enter into the main parking lot on Elmgrove Avenue. They will then drive to the left side of the parking lot and enter the stadium area through the large gate. They will take an immediate right and follow the access road until it bears left and enter through the gate to the right of the scoreboard. If available, a member of the health-care team, coaching staff, or facilities event coordinator will meet the EMS unit near the entrance gate on Elmgrove Avenue and direct them onto the field where the injured student-athlete is being attended. At a football game or other event, if there is a mobile critical care unit on site with Advanced Life Support (ALS)/Emergency Medical Technician (EMS) personnel, they will be located on the track to the right of the scoreboard. EMS personnel will be notified by way of direct verbal or visual communication between the on-site EMS unit and a Certified Athletic Trainer. EMS personnel will be directed to where the injured student-athlete is being attended. If present, event management and security staff personnel will be responsible for crowd control to allow EMS access to and from all gates surrounding the field and stadium. A Team Physician, Certified Athletic Trainer, or coach will accompany the injured student- athlete to Rhode Island Hospital ER or Miriam Hospital ER. The location to which the athlete will be transported is at the discretion of EMS or the attending Team Physician. The Director of Sports Medicine will be notified of the present situation at 401-440-9519. The Director of Sports Medicine will notify the Team Physician or a member of his staff at University Orthopedics at 401-457-1538 or through central paging at 401-444-5108. Brown Student Health Services will be notified on the present situation at 401-863-3953. Coordination of medical information and details with parents, family, or other appropriate persons will be made in the OMAC Athletic Training Room with the landline at 401-863-3851 by the Staff Certified Athletic Trainers. Uses and disclosures of this information is subject to the 5 Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Rhode Island Confidentiality of Health Care Communications and Information Act and shall be released only to those individuals/organizations to which the student-athlete has granted consent unless an exception exists for use and disclosure without consent. Erickson Athletic Complex Fields The following Medical Emergency Action Plan will be posted at the Erickson Athletic Complex at appropriate locations near telephones. Senior Jordan Pietrus NOVEMBER scored his team-leading sixth goal of the year, while senior Aaron Volpatti also 6 at Union T, 3-3 (ot) scored in the win.
