Small adjustments have been made to the script to incorporate his visual impairment. The other lead character Babe is performed by Ali Zimmerman, who is profoundly deaf but can hear very well through use of audio aids. Several of the sewing girls at the Sleep-Tite factory are played by actors in wheelchairs. Their sets and props will be incorporated including their sewing stations with the sewing machines actually affixed to their wheelchairs. PHAMALy’s mission is to enable persons with disabilities to showcase their talents and abilities through live productions and to make the performing arts more accessible to everyone. As a not-for-profit, membership organization, PHAMALy (The Physically Handicapped Amateur Musical Actors League, Inc.) is dedicated to producing traditional theater in non-traditional ways. Since its origination in 1989, PHAMALy has gained national recognition and received numerous awards including the Mayor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts and Westword’s Best Musical for the regional premiere of SIDE SHOW. PHAMALy’s production of THE PAJAMA GAME runs in The Space Theatre (located in the Denver Performing Arts Complex at 14th and Curtis Streets in downtown Denver) Aug. 1 – 17 with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. (No Sunday matinee will be held on Aug. 3.) Tickets are $25 with discounts for groups and PHAMALy members. A discounted preview performance will be held on Thursday, July 31 at 8:00 p.m. (tickets are $10), and Industry Night is Monday, Aug. 11 at 7:00 p.m. Audio-described performances (with services for visually impaired audience members) are scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 10 and Sunday, Aug. 17, and the show will be sign-language- interpreted for deaf audience members on Sunday, Aug. 10.
