Mthimkhulu said this of the initiative, “This act of kindness is an indication that we are together in the fight against this scourge.”

The Honourable Minister also helped to officially present KBL’s Covd-19 prevention kits, distributed to outlets nationwide in early June. These kits are comprised of: • Hand sanitizer, • Leteisi face masks, • Social distancing stickers and demarcation tape, and • Chibuku drinking cups to prevent lovers of the traditional brew from drinking from the same carton as is customary. KBL Head of Corporate Affairs, Masegonyana Madisa; Acting Minister for Additionally, KBL has released responsibility adverts on Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Dumezweni print and social media to remind Batswana to observe social Meshack Mthimkhulu; KBL Chief Executive Officer, Brenno Kliger-Diaz distancing regulations and drink at home.

Hon. Anna Mokgethi and Hon. Dr. Lemogang Kwape were also in attendance to accept donations for their respective ministries. Hon. Mokgethi accepted 1000 shields for border officials from various ministries, whom she described as the “key stakeholder[s] in the fight against Covid-19.” Hon. Dr. Kwape received 4000 shields for health workers that have “sacrificed time with loved ones in order to ensure our safety and care for those infected.”

KBL has spent more than P2million on this second round of contributions to support the country; an investment KBL CEO, Brenno Kliger-Diaz hopes will make a positive impact in the lives of Batswana.

It was announced through a statement from the Botswana Power Corporation Workers’ Union (BPCWU). The state- ment was released yesterday (July 14) and signed by General Secretary Ganaone Marumoagae. According to the statement, BPC workers understand that the COVID-19 pandemic has affected companies and their revenues. That being the case, they believe it is not a good enough reason for BPC management to refuse to make inflationary adjustments, Save up to considering then rising cost of living. The Union is of the view that BPC can afford to pay for an inflationary adjustment because the Corporation recently received a P500 million subsidy, which they believe must also cater for staff welfare. “The BPC also embarked on a restruc- turing exercise which was intended to reduce the size of the organisation, but it rather increased the numbers of employees from 2032 to 2187 and many of these new off positions are not essential to the business,” argues BPCWU. “The appointments are also questionable 50% with a clear indication of nepotism. Second, when leading a company with a diverse employee base. Activism cultivates an inclusive environment promoting em- ployee recruitment and retention among that diverse workforce. But it’s more than companies proactively trying to court liberal customers or perhaps future employees. Sometimes they are re- sponding to the demands of current em- ployees as well. My colleague Josiah Drewry and I found in a study of LGBT rights activism that employees – especially in highly educated workforces – can be an organized force, urging their em- ployers to engage in corporate activism. Different types of activism When studying LGBT rights activ- ism, Drewry and I also wanted to know if “hard activism” – like lobbying or contributions to advocacy organizations – can be explained by different things than “soft activism,” like tweets or press releases. We found few differences when it came to the factors that influenced hard and soft activism. The main exception was the influ- ence of peer companies. For example, the more companies within an industry engage in activism, the more likely a company within that industry is to engage in soft activism. However, when it comes to hard activism, the fewer companies within an industry en- gage in activism, the more likely it was that a single company was doing things like lob- bying or making donations. We gathered from this that there are a Contributions core group of corporate leaders acting first, Calculator before others within their industry. For instance, Target and Sempra Energy were hard activism leaders on LGBT rights with- in their respective industries. While it may be fair to skeptically view companies that engage in activism later on, the first movers, or those that engage in hard activism early, are more likely inter- ested in achieving policy change. The bottom line CEO ideology and employee pressure are hidden forces at play with corporate activism. Four athletes have already qualified for the Olympics, they include Nijel Amos (men’s 800m) as well women 400m athletes in Galefele Moroko, Amantle Montsho and Christine Botlogetswe. Meanwhile, Theetso told this publication that they are yet to decide on Onkabetse Nkobolo and Baboloki Thebe’s case. This is after the two athletes earlier this year went against protocol by sneaking out of training camp on which they were at the end involved in a car accident. Reports suggest that the two were returning from a party in the wee hours of the morning when the driver (Thebe) lost control of the car which then overturned. “We met as the BAA leadership this past weekend but we did not have time to discuss their case as we had other burning issues,” he said. “But we promise that we will conclude it very soon.” The Botswana Gazette Wednesday 15 July 2020 SPORT Page 29 Rollers, Kavazovic Agree Personal Terms
