Olympic’s impressive performances this season have helped them to rise to the top of the pile, which has been made more impressive when considering they lost their coach on the cusp of the season. New boss Abbas Saad has Olympic playing an exciting brand of football lead by captain and midfield dynamo Max Burgess. A 3-0 win against Sutherland last round was another huge victory for Olympic and they appear to be going from strength to strength. Their opponents this week are a Wollongong Wolves side who are desperate to provide a better return on investment for their star studded lineup. Wollongong has hit a mid season slump with their early season winning form seemingly long gone. 1ST GRADE - NPL NSW MEN’S POS TEAM P W D L F A GD PTS 1 Sydney Olympic FC 9 7 1 1 15 7 8 22 2 APIA Leichhardt Tigers FC 9 6 1 2 22 10 12 19 3 Blacktown City FC 9 5 2 2 16 8 8 17 4 Sydney United 58 FC 9 5 0 4 15 11 4 15 5 Manly United FC 9 3 3 3 15 16 -1 12 6 Marconi Stallions FC 9 3 3 3 11 14 -3 12 7 Hakoah Sydney City East FC 9 3 2 4 15 13 2 11 8 Sutherland Sharks FC 9 3 2 4 14 15 -1 11 9 Wollongong Wolves FC 9 3 2 4 8 13 -5 11 10 Rockdale City Suns FC 9 2 2 5 16 24 -8 8 11 Bonnyrigg White Eagles FC 9 2 2 5 11 20 -9 8 12 Sydney FC 9 1 2 6 14 21 -7 5 5 1. A screamer from Radovan Pavicevic and a double from Jason Madonis did the damage for Olympic as they cruised to a comprehensive win on the back of an impressive second half performance. It wasn’t all one way traffic with the Sharks holding firm for the opening 45 minutes as both teams went into the interval scoreless. However, Olympic were in too good form to be denied and Pavicevic’s 55th minute strike opened the floodgates as the visitors raced away to secure a vital three competition points and top spot on the ladder. Wollongong Wolves FC 1 – Manly United 1 at WIN Stadium Wollongong Wolves have clawed their way back to a 1-1 draw with Manly United after a spirited late revival at WIN Stadium on Sunday afternoon. A dominant second half display had the Manly on course for three points with Sasa Macura’s beautiful strike from the outside box appearing decisive. The Wolves, however, refused to roll over, throwing numbers forward to stage a late comeback which allowed Yuzo Tashiro to head his side level in the last minute of normal time. The hosts went close to snatching a win late on, yet the points were shared in a match that both teams will draw positives from. 8 NPLNSW.COM.AU TEAM OF THE WEEK 01: LARGE USE: OVER 150MM WIDE This logo has a smaller ‘®’ symbol FOOTBALL NSW WOULD LIKE TO THANK THEIR SPONSORS FOR THEIR CONTINUED SUPPORT 02: SMALL USE: 55MM - 150MM WIDE This logo has a larger ‘®’ symbol 9 #NPLNSW 2018 Nova Employment football4all Gala Day Sunday 1st July 2018 • 9am to 3pm Valentine Sports Park 235-257 Meurants Lane, Glenwood 2768 football4all is a Football NSW initiative introduced in 2008 aimed at giving people with a disability or special needs the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful day of football with family and friends at no expense.
