National Premier Leagues NSW Champions Manly United on Sunday. Defeat at the hands of APIA Leichhardt Tigers undid the good work from their round one victory but Olympic coach Abbas Saad believes his players has the strength to bounce back. Jinya An has been their best threat upfront while Spanish import Alex Sanchez has also performed well. For Manly the season couldn’t have started any worse with two straight defeats conceding five goals in the process. Defensive structure was singled out by coach Paul Dee as a major area of improvement and the pressure will be on the backline of Travis Oughtred, Jamie Lobb and Daniel Alessi to keep it together on Saturday. 1ST GRADE - NPL NSW MEN’S POS TEAM P W D L F A GD PTS 1 APIA Leichhardt Tigers FC 2 2 0 0 4 1 3 6 2 Marconi Stallions FC 2 1 1 0 2 1 1 4 3 Wollongong Wolves FC 2 1 1 0 1 0 1 4 4 Blacktown City FC 2 1 1 0 1 0 1 4 5 Hakoah Sydney City East FC 2 1 0 1 4 3 1 3 6 Sydney FC 2 1 0 1 4 3 1 3 7 Sutherland Sharks FC 2 1 0 1 2 2 0 3 8 Rockdale City Suns FC 2 1 0 1 1 1 0 3 9 Sydney Olympic FC 2 1 0 1 2 3 -1 3 10 Bonnyrigg White Eagles FC 2 0 1 1 2 3 -1 1 11 Sydney United 58 FC 2 0 0 2 0 2 -2 0 12 Manly United FC 2 0 0 2 1 5 -4 0 5 1. A first half George Howard penalty broke the deadlock and Sean Symons doubled the score in the second stanza as the home side claimed all three points despite stifling heat against a tough Sydney Olympic outfit. The win was APIA’s first home win of the season and builds on their opening round victory against Manly United. For Sydney Olympic the result was a reality check after their opening week win but coach Abbas Saad will be able to take away plenty of positives from a performance which could’ve been very different if his side had more luck in front of goal. Hakoah Sydney City East 3 – Manly United FC 0 at Hensley Athletic Field Hakoah Sydney City East’s young guns have sent a warning to the National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s competition with a 3-0 win over last years’ Champions Manly United at Hensley Athletic Park on Sunday afternoon. The home side dominated the match at both ends of the field with the Hakoah defence continually pushing Manly to shoot from long distance. Despite only being on the field for the first 60 minutes, Andre De Jong was a standout for the home side, scoring Hakoah’s first goal and proving dangerous for the Manly defence before rushing to the airport to travel to Spain to represent New Zealand. A late penalty to Manly’s Brendan Cholakian gave Hakoah a scare but the result was never in doubt as Hakoah claimed its first win of the season, resigning Manly to its second straight loss. 8 NPLNSW.COM.AU TEAM OF THE WEEK 01: LARGE USE: OVER 150MM WIDE This logo has a smaller ‘®’ symbol FOOTBALL NSW WOULD LIKE TO THANK THEIR SPONSORS FOR THEIR CONTINUED SUPPORT 02: SMALL USE: 55MM - 150MM WIDE This logo has a larger ‘®’ symbol 9 keep our game beautiful INTEGRITY IN SPORT Football NSW and the National Premier Leagues NSW are bound by Football Federation Australia’s NATIONAL CODE OF CONDUCT and NATIONAL ANTI-DOPING POLICY.
