BROWNS QB JOSH MC COWN, COLTS S MIKE ADAMS & BENGALS K MIKE NUGENT NAMED AFC PLAYERS OF WEEK 5

Quarterback JOSH MC COWN of the , safety MIKE ADAMS of the and kicker MIKE NUGENT of the are the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for games played in Week 5 (October 8, 11-12), the NFL announced today.

OFFENSE: QB JOSH MC COWN, CLEVELAND BROWNS  McCown passed for a franchise-record 457 yards and had three total (two passing, one rushing) with a 111.3 in the Browns’ 33-30 overtime win at Baltimore.  He is the first player in NFL history with at least 450 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, a rushing and no in a game.  With the Browns trailing 27-22 in the fourth quarter, McCown connected with ISAIAH CROWELL on a 22-yard touchdown pass to give the Browns their first lead of the day (30-27).  In overtime, McCown orchestrated a 12-play, 51-yard drive to set up the game-winning 32-yard field goal.  McCown, who passed for 341 yards against the Raiders in Week 3 and 356 yards at San Diego in Week 4, is the first player in franchise history with three consecutive 300-yard passing games.  In his 13th season from Sam Houston State, this is McCown’s second career Player of the Week Award and first since he was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week with Chicago in 2013 (Week 14).  He is the first Browns to be named Offensive Player of the Week since in 2013 (Week 9).

DEFENSE: S MIKE ADAMS, INDIANAPOLIS COLTS  Adams had four tackles and two interceptions in the Colts’ 27-20 win at Houston on Thursday Night Football.  Adams’ first , which he returned 38 yards, came at the 8:45 mark of the first quarter and led to a 48- yard field goal by .  His second pick came on a third-down play at the two-minute mark of the fourth quarter, ending the Texans’ final possession and halting a potential game-tying drive.  His two interceptions tied for the most in the NFL in Week 5.  It was the fourth multiple-interception game of Adams’ career and his first since 2014, when he accomplished the feat twice.  In his 12th season from Delaware, this is Adams’ first career Player of the Week Award.  He is the first Colts safety to be named Defensive Player of the Week since BOB SANDERS in 2007 (Week 2).

SPECIAL TEAMS: K MIKE NUGENT, CINCINNATI BENGALS  Nugent converted a game-tying 31-yard field goal as time expired in the fourth quarter and a 42-yard game- winner in overtime of the Bengals’ come-from-behind 27-24 victory against Seattle.  Nugent, who also converted all three of his PATs, scored nine total points and booted four of his five kickoffs for touchbacks.  His late-game scores helped the Bengals’ erase a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit for the first time since 2004.  Cincinnati’s comeback was only the third victory in NFL history in which a team erased a fourth-quarter deficit of at least 17 points against a club that played in the previous season’s .  In his 11th season from Ohio State, this is Nugent’s second Special Teams Player of the Week award and first since 2010 (Week 2).  Nugent joins DOUG PELFREY (four) as the only Bengals kickers to be win multiple Special Teams Player of the Week Awards. 2015 AFC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Other nominees for AFC Offensive Player of Week 5 as submitted by AFC clubs:  Pittsburgh running back LE’ VEON BELL, who rushed for 111 yards on 21 attempts with one touchdown and had four catches for 16 yards in the Steelers’ 24-20 win at San Diego.  Jacksonville quarterback , who completed 23 of 33 passes (69.7 percent) for 303 yards with four touchdowns for a 125.4 passer rating at Tampa Bay.  Cincinnati quarterback , who passed for 331 yards and had three total touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) with a 95.9 passer rating.  New England , who had four catches for 120 yards and one touchdown in the Patriots’ 30-6 win at Dallas.  Indianapolis wide receiver ANDRE JOHNSON, who had six catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns.

Other nominees for AFC Defensive Player of Week 5 as submitted by AFC clubs:  Pittsburgh cornerback ANTWON BLAKE, who had two tackles and a 70-yard interception-return touchdown.  Buffalo cornerback , who had one , an interception and four passes defensed in the Bills’ 14-13 win at Tennessee.  Denver cornerback CHRIS HARRIS, JR., who had four tackles and a 74-yard interception-return touchdown in the Broncos’ 16-10 win at Oakland.  Oakland safety , who had four tackles and two interceptions against Denver.

Other nominees for AFC Special Teams Player of Week 5 as submitted by AFC clubs:  Cleveland kicker TRAVIS COONS, who converted all four field-goal attempts and one PAT.  New England kicker STEPHEN GOSTKOWSKI, who converted all three field-goal attempts and three PATs.  Denver kicker BRANDON MC MANUS, who converted all three field-goal attempts and one PAT.  Buffalo punter COLTON SCHMIDT, who punted seven times for 357 yards (51.0 average) and placed one inside his opponent’s 20-yard line.
