Download PDF File -Xvpauqxd4158 The loss of James Rodgers started to sink in for the OregonState football team Tuesday, a day after the news came out that thestar all-purpose player will miss the rest of the season due to aleft knee injury. Players and coaches looked toward the next challenge, a Pacific-10Conference road game at Washington on Saturday night, as a way tocope. The 24th-ranked Beavers have plenty to work with in his absence, but it's still not easy. "It's a big blow to the Beavers, not only as a player but as aperson who makes practice a lot of fun," coach Mike Riley said."You can't spin the disappointment. I'm not going to try." Surgery is planned in two weeks after the swelling goes down. Thedamage was extensive, Riley said, but details of the injury werenot released. No decision was made by Rodgers about his desire to come back nextyear. He graduates after fall term with a speech communicationsdegree, and is an NFL prospect. "He will be eligible to return to play," Riley said. "That's asilver lining for a bad situation. I don't know if he'll be backnext year. He has that option, and I hope he takes it." Rodgers is a senior who hasn't redshirted and qualifies for amedical hardship waiver that allows him to return for a fifthseason. OSU believes he meets all the criteria of playing less than30 percent of the season before the injury. Rodgers plans to wait to make any decisions. He may or may not behealthy enough to work out for NFL scouts. "I'm feeling pretty good and positive about everything," he said."Once I get surgery, I'm going to hit the ground running (inrehab). I have a lot of time to think about that. I'll talk tocoach Riley and get his input on everything. And make my decisionwhen the time comes." Before practice, his brother, running back Jacquizz Rodgers, saidJames was relaxing at home, in good spirits and looking toreturn. "Hopefully, he gets that medical redshirt," Jacquizz said. "I thinkhe will (come back)." The Beavers will file a request with the Pac-10 about the medicalhardship waiver after the season. A decision will be made by schoolfaculty representatives during the Pac-10 basketball tournament inMarch. Filling in for OSU's all-time all-purpose yardage leader will bedifficult. James Rodgers was the deep threat, possession receiverand a dynamic returner on kickoffs and punts. Sophomore quarterback Ryan Katz will miss him most. He started tofeel comfortable as a passer, largely because of Rodgers. Rodgersis Katz' favorite target with 16 receptions for 215 yards and twotouchdowns. "James is a big part of the program," Katz said. "Off the fieldhe's a great student and friend. On the field he's the leader ofthis team. He brings a lot to the table and it is unfortunate he'sout for the year." Markus Wheaton will be the primary player to take over for Rodgers, but in reality it will be a group effort. Aaron Nichols moves overfrom split end to flanker in place of Rodgers, Riley said. Wheaton worked mostly at split end, so he takes Nichols' place.Jordan Poyer remains the punt returner for Rodgers and Wheaton alsotakes over on kickoff returns. "On the football end of it, who is going to gain all these yards,"Riley said. "I've been pleased already with the people who havestepped in this season for James. That's why I don't think thisteam will panic. This team won't get down. They will bedisappointed, but they will not allow that to affect them how theygo forward." Wheaton looked up to Rodgers, and credits him for teaching thelittle nuances of being a receiver that a peer can but a coachcan't. He's ready to take on the extra burden, but Rodgers did average176.8 all-purpose yards a game. "I'm hurt, and I feel bad for him and the team," Wheaton said. "Ithink we need him. He puts a certain fear in defenders. They knowwho James Rodgers is. I don't think we can replace that." The Beavers still have his leadership. Once he can get aroundbetter Rodgers is expected to be at practice to help the youngerplayers. Teammates still look forward to his motivational speeches beforegames. Riley plans to have Rodgers help him watch opponent videoand create game plans. "His impact will remain," Riley said. "He'll be around and be agreat leader, even not playing for this team. The examples he setare lasting traits people will remember. That's not going todisappear." For now the Beavers turn their attention to Washington. Since theydefeated Arizona State without Rodgers due to a concussion sufferedat Boise State, there's a belief they can still win. The Beavers held on in the second half of the Arizona game withouthim. They just kept scoring with everyone else. "We've stepped up once before without him," Riley said. "That's whyI don't think this team will blink. We'll get going and get readyfor the Huskies." however, the first generation of college women sought to challenge the stylistic choices that had been inflicted on them. loving, and wish I had gotten to know her better.??I have a hatred of familiarity, has carved out a distinctive niche. to understand corporate media is literally undermining democracy. The twelve-minute test, which measures “cognitive ability,” has been shown to have a disparate impact on minorities in various employment situations. This Note contends that the NFL’s use of the Wonderlic also has a disparate impact because of its effect on a player’s draft status and ultimately his salary. The test cannot be justified by business necessity because there is no correlation between a player’s Wonderlic score and their on-field performance. As such, this Note calls for the creation of a football-specific intelligence test that would be less likely to have a disparate impact than the Wonderlic, while also being sufficiently job-related and more reliable in predicting a player’s success.

John Fox fires back at Jim Irsay over Peyton Manning bashing By Mike Klis The Denver Post October 15, 2013 Broncos coach John Fox. Broncos coach John Fox fired back at Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay on Tuesday in defense of Peyton Manning. Irsay earlier implied in an interview with USA Today that he wanted to move on from Manning’s “star wars” stats and start winning more Super Bowls. Fox, on his weekly appearance on NFL Sirius radio on Tuesday with Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan, was asked about Irsay’s comments. “I saw the comments. And to be honest with you, I thought it was a bit of a cheap shot,” Fox said. “To me, in my opinion, they were disappointing and inappropriate. “Peyton would never say anything. He’s too classy to do that. They sounded a little ungrateful and unappreciative to me. For a guy who has set a standard, won a Super Bowl, won four MVP awards… be thankful of that one Super Bowl ring, because a lot of people don’t have one.” Irsay, among other quotes, said in reference to Manning’s time with the Colts: “(Tom) Brady never had consistent numbers, but he has three of these,” Irsay said. “Pittsburgh had two, the Giants had two, Baltimore had two and we had one. That leaves you frustrated.” Here’s a link to Fox’s radio interview.
