This comes after the Dawid Kruiper Municipality and Coop- erative Governance, Human Set- tlement and Traditional Af- fairs (CoGHSTA) handed over title deeds ahead of Mandela Day in July. The beneficiaries received their title deeds from the Speaker of the Dawid Kruiper Municipality, Cllr Mi- cheal Segede, who represented the MEC of CoGHSTA, Hon. Bentley Vass.

The handing over of the title deeds took place at the Methodist church in Paballelo, the home to the Upington 14 struggle icons. The Speaker was accompa- nied by Councillor Lebitsa of ward 13, Councillor Kalote of ward 7 and officials from CoGHSTA. A total of 89 benefi- ciaries were listed to receive their title deeds.

Implementation of ZFM’s Kgotso Pula Nala Project

In terms of socio economic benefits, 40 people were em- ployed to pick up litter from the Toll Speel- man Civic Hall along the main road till the

junction close to the Morning Glory Cemetery. Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP)

is one of the key government programmes that aims at alleviating poverty and unem- ployment in the country. As a poverty relief initiative, the EPWP in partnership with local municipalities creates short to medium term work and training opportunities for the mar- ginalised, unemployed and unskilled South Africans. FREEDOM OF THE CITY PARADE WAS A HUGE SUCCESS

The Freedom of the city Parade takes place after every two years where a street parade is conducted through the Upington CBD. The event, which is organized by the Dawid Kruiper Municipality and 8SAI Army Base, involves soldiers from the different components of the army.

In her speech, the Executive Mayor of D.K.M thanked the 8SAI Army Base for the role which they played in the Government’s Thuma Mina Campaign. 8SAI provided the municipality with assistance required in terms of service delivery as per the Thuma Mina Campaign.
