It does this by showing Rotarians as the people of action we are: leaders who work together in communities to inspire, transform, connect, and celebrate what's possible. Individuals who get things done and have a great time working, growing, and learning together. This campaign also motivates, engages, and inspires current and prospective members, as well as donors, partners, and supporters.

People of Action

Bringing Rotary's brand to life

While many people have heard of Rotary, few people actually understand what Rotary clubs do. In fact, 35 percent of the public is unfamiliar with any Rotary program, including their local club. That's why Rotary has created a new global ad campaign called "People of Action." The ads are available for download at Rotary.org/brandcenter, where you'll also find guidelines on how to use and localize each element, making it easier for clubs in any part of the world to tell their story in a consistent, compelling way.

Here's what you need to know:

Who are we trying to reach? This campaign is for people who do not know about Rotary or why its relevant to them. We hope the campaign will appeal to potential members who want to make a difference in their communities, those interested in Rotary's causes, and people looking to establish relationships with others in their communities.

Why is the campaign's theme "People of Action"? Rotarians share a unique passion for taking action to improve their communities and the world. Where others see problems, we see solutions. This is our chance to show others how Rotarians see what's possible in their communities and to highlight what we can achieve when more community leaders join Rotary.

What materials are available? At Rotary.org/brandcenter, you'll find videos, social media graphics, and advertisements for print and digital. Campaign guidelines are also provided to help districts and clubs localize the assets.

Who are the people/projects featured in the campaign? The first ads in the campaign feature real Rotarians in Colorado and Brazil, and the stories shown were inspired by actual projects. More stories from Rotarians will be featured in upcoming ads. Work with local print media ad representatives to place these full-color ads in community magazines and newspapers. Can clubs or districts modify campaign materials with pictures of their own projects? Yes. Guidelines are provided at Rotary.org/brandcenter to help districts and clubs localize the campaign with photos of their own communities.

Is there guidance for taking photos for the ads? Yes. Rotary.org/brandcenter has a checklist and information on how to capture photos that focus on connections and community.

Here's how you can help: What are some ways we can place the campaign locally? Campaign placement tips are on Rotary.org/brandcenter. There are also other ways to use the materials - consider adding campaign Go to Rotary.org/brandcenter - graphics to club and district websites, posting them on social media, and displaying the ads at events. 5 Ignored Methods To Grow Membership

By Tirrah Switzer Published: 2/13/2020 Membership tactics must change, so here's ways to take your recruitment to the next level, more quickly grow membership, and (bonus!) improve the member experience. Membership recruitment is a never-ending project. Every year, members leave your association - they retire, change jobs or professions, go out of business, lose their professional development budget, or just vanish for unknown reasons. As members go out the back door, you must keep new ones coming in the front. What strategies will guide your plan for recruiting these new members? And what tactics will you use to achieve your recruitment goals? The easy way out is recycling membership recruitment tactics of the past. But, the most successful associations do it differently. They encourage staff and volunteers to bring their creativity to the planning table. They're willing to try out new ideas and experiment with new tactics. The world is changing, people are changing, and your membership tactics must change, too. These five under-utilized member recruitment tactics will result in faster membership growth for your association. As a bonus, the practices and mindset you develop by implementing these tactics will improve the association experience for your existing members.

CONVENTION COUNTDOWN

DESSERT ISLAND When you are in Honolulu for the Rotary International Convention, 6-10 June, make sure to save room for , because the Hawaiian Islands have some sweet treats in store for you.

Shave ice (calling it or a is a quick way of revealing you're not from around here) was introduced to Hawaii by Japanese immigrants. Inspired by a Japanese frozen treat called kakigori, they hand-shaved blocks of ice to create mounds of delicate crystals, then flavored the ice with the juice of tropical .

These days, the ice is usually shaved by machine and is often served over for an extra layer of indulgence. Flavors range from local favorites such as papaya, lychee, and pineapple to the more exotic (for Hawaii) black cherry, apple, and chocolate.

If your taste runs more to fried dough, you can indulge in malasadas, brought to the islands by Portuguese immigrants. In Hawaii, these luscious yeast doughnuts (the batter is enriched with lots of eggs, butter, and sometimes evaporated or fresh milk) have fillings such as custard, pudding, chocolate pudding, and guava. Whichever treat you prefer, try to sample the variety from different shops. Many have their own special flavors and fillings. - HANK SARTIN Don't miss the 2020 Rotary Convention in Honolulu. Message from Jill Pietrusinski Assistant Rotary Coordinator Zone 31 2019-2022

Congratulations on the opportunity to lead your club in 2020-2021. Being a Club President is one of the most important jobs in Rotary.
