Commencement is a time-honored tradition, and we consider it a great privilege to laud our graduates — no matter the circumstances. While we eagerly await the opportunity to honor this occasion in person, we are pleased to recognize the spirit of our community and the academic accomplishments and dedication of our beloved candidates for graduation. For the Class of 2020, this milestone marks the culmination of years of study, hard work and careful preparation. It is also an occasion to remember the happiest and most fulfilling moments of your time as a student on this cherished campus — experiences you will carry with you throughout life. We’re grateful to you and to all of the parents and other supporters who have shown tremendous love and belief in you during your academic pursuits. Our students are the heart and soul of Ole Miss, and we take pride in their accomplishments and growth. The university remains committed to doing all it can to honor our graduates in person when it is safe for us to come together as a university community. And while we aren’t able to gather in the Grove and at other beautiful venues on our campus right now for traditional pomp and circumstance, we could not let our originally scheduled Commencement Day pass without recognizing the incredible achievements, character and spirit of this class of graduates. So much has been accomplished during your time here, and we can’t wait to see how you’ll continue to build your legacy. As you embark on your individual journeys and move the world forward, your relationship with this place will continue to shape your life and your understanding of the world, and we will continue to be here for you. As we all learned from Frank Everett many years ago, “the University gives a diploma, but one never graduates from Ole Miss.” Sincerely, Glenn F. Boyce, Chancellor Noel E. Wilkin, Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs P.O.
