E-mails: [email protected] & [email protected] 2 University of 08 mai 1945, Guelma, Algeria 3 Biology Department, University of Annaba, Annaba, Algeria RÉSUMÉ.— Facteurs environnementaux influençant les communautés d’Odonates de trois rivières méditerranéennes : les oueds Kebir-Est, Seybouse et Rumel, nord-est algérien.— Les Odonates sont une composante importante des peuplements des milieux lotiques et leur abondance et diversité renseignent sur l’intégrité écologique de ces hydrosystèmes. L’inventaire odonatologique de trois oueds majeurs algériens : Kebir- Est, Seybouse et Rhumel, a permis l’identification de 40 espèces. Nos résultats révèlent la présence de Calopteryx exul, endémique maghrébin, dans l’oued Seybouse et semblent confirmer l’extinction de la population type dans l’oued Rhumel où l’espèce avait été découverte au XIXe siècle. Nos résultats indiquent également l’expansion de plusieurs espèces: Coenagrion caerulescens, Orthetrum nitidinerve, Trithemis kirbyi et Urothemis edwardsii dont la population relictuelle est en danger critique d’extinction. La mesure de diverses variables physicochimiques (altitude, température, conductivité, etc.) nous a permis d’explorer une possible co-structure entre les jeux de données faunistiques et de variables environnementales. L’analyse des données indique que la richesse spécifique est, selon l’oued, variablement correlée à l’hydropériode, à la conductivité et à la température de l’eau, suggérant son utilité dans l’évaluation de l’intégrité écologique des cours d’eau méditerranéens. -

Smithb aDepartment of Natural Resources, Bureau of Natural Heritage Conservation, Superior, WI, USA bDepartment of Natural Resources, Bureau of Natural Heritage Conservation, Madison, WI, USA (Received 11 March 2016; final version received 25 April 2016) We marked and released 276 F-0 larvae of Ophiogomphus rupinsulensis in the fall of 2008 in a 99-m riffle (marking riffle) of a small, serially discontinuous, northern Wisconsin river (USA). We then recovered marked exuviae via exhaustive collecting on the banks of a 272-m sampling reach in which the marking riffle was located during spring of 2009. We collected 6054 exuviae of O. rupinsulensis along the sampling reach, including 3829 exuviae along the marking riffle (19.3 exuviae m–1). Mark retention was complete and our ability to recover marked exuviae in the field was high (92%). We recovered 38 marked exuviae which provided a minimum estimate of survival (14%) for F-0 larvae from late September to the following June. The density of F-0 larvae in the marking riffle in late September was estimated at 22.6 larvae m–2. Nearly all F-0 larvae made small downstream movements (97% moved < 60 m) at some time during the 36 weeks before emergence, but they did not make substantial longitudinal movements. ABSTRACT The region is broadly determined by desert, which forms a huge belt between the western Palaearctic and the Afrotropics. Fourteen out of the 125 odonate species recorded so far are endemics. There are two main centres of endemism in the region: the northern Maghreb and the southern Arabian Peninsula. Odonate habitats in the desert are especially endangered by dryness and pollution. Fourteen species - most of them endemics - are regarded as critical. Conservation measures are suggested. REGIONAL DEFINITION Northern Africa is broadly determined by desert. Roughly one third of the African continent is covered by the Sahara. Due to faunal affinities, the easterly adjacent Arabian Desert is here included. -

Coloración general pajiza, con tórax y marcas abdominales de color castaño, nunca amarilla y negra como las dos especies cogénericas que también habitan en la península; Paragomphus genei, de porte similar, se diferencia por su tórax verde o verdoso. Apéndices superiores masculinos ensanchados apicalmente, el inferior, profundamente hendido, parece doble. Figuras en Askew (2004) y dijkstra y Lewington (2006). La especie fue citada por Navás (1900b, 1905a, 1905b, 1907, 1924a), Andréu (1911), Benítez Morera (1950) y Andreu rubio (1953) como Onychogomphus genei (sensu sélys, 1871, no sélys, 1841). Abstract Biogeographic evaluation of the dragonfies and damselfies in the Eastern Iberian Peninsu- la.— Insects are one of the most diverse groups of animals in terrestrial ecosystems, and are thus a good model system to study macrogeographic patterns in species’ distributions. Here we perform a biogeographical analysis of the dragonfies and damselfies in the Valencian Country (Eastern Iberian Peninsula). We also compare the species present in this territory with those in the adjacent territories of Catalonia and Aragon, and with those present in the whole Iberian Peninsula. Furthermore, we update the list of species of dragonfies and dam- selfies in the Valencian territory (65 species), and discuss the current status of two of them: Macromia splendens and Lindenia tetraphylla. Our results highlight that the Valencian Country has a higher proportion of Ethiopian elements but a lower proportion of Eurosiberian elements than Catalonia and Aragon. We also emphasize the importance of volunteer work in providing new knowledge on this group of iconic insects, and the relevance of museum collections in preserving them. The role of climate change in the distribution of Odonata is also discussed. Abstract Forty-five species of Odonata have been recorded within Numidia, which includes the El Kala and the Guerbes-Senhadja wetlands in northeastern Algeria. Five species are new to the area. Changes occurring in dragonfly diversity over a century and a half are discussed. This paper (Part I) deals with the status and spatial distribution of each recorded taxon. Introduction In northeastern Algeria the topography and favourable climate (annual rainfall up to 1,200 mm and a mild winter) combine to maintain a vast wetland area extending across Numidia (Fig. 1). This includes two important wetlands: in the west the Guerbes-Senhadja complex and in the east the El Kala complex, which offers large arrays of habitats inhabited by a rich fauna and flora, including many species of Afrotropical origin. Since the time of P.H. Lucas, who collected a remarkable variety of species of Odonata during the "Exploration Scientifique de !'Algerie" (Selys-Longchamps 1849), odonatologists have been quick to notice the importance of "Le Cercle de la Calle" (eastern Numidia).
