Gore Abstract.—A small collection of 55 specimens of decapod crustaceans, obtained using a research submersible on a deep-water coral reef off Key Largo, Florida, produced one new genus and three new species of natantian shrimp, plus several major range extensions to the continental United States for other decapods. The new taxa included Veleroniopsis kimallynae new genus and species, and Pontoniopsis paulae, new species, in the Palae- monidae, and Odontozona libertae, new species, in the Stenopodidae. The discovery of new taxa in depths of less than 100 m suggests that the cryptic, coral-associated decapod crustacean fauna may be richer than previously suspected. The decapod crustacean fauna of the Florida Keys has long been recog- nised as being both speciose and numerous. Although no comprehensive specific inventory has ever been conducted, the fauna is considered rela- tively well known as a result of several regional and monographic studies (e.g. Rathbun's monographs on brachyurans), which included species whose ranges extended either to, or north- or southward through the Florida Keys. As might be expected, the intertidal and shallow subtidal decapods are rel- atively better known than their deeper-living counterparts, because of the various logistical problems encountered in sampling deep, rocky or reeflike areas using either conventional surface-towed gear, or SCUBA. In June 1979 a geophysical and biological survey of deep-water coral reefs off Key Largo, Florida was conducted by the Office of Coastal Zone Man- agement for NOAA, using a manned research submersible. -

N. dentiger was also found on M. robusta, but not on L. alba. The new species can be distinguished from all known species oí Neopontonides by the well marked angulation of the supraorbital margin. ZooKeys 457: 45–54. doi: 10.3897/zookeys.457.6280 Abstract The stalked barnacle Oxynaspis gracilis, the chirostylid squat lobster Uroptychus sp., and the caridean shrimps Periclimenes cf. antipathophilus and Pseudopontonides principis have been collected at 68–124 m by a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) on banks in the northern Gulf of Mexico. These species inhabited six species of antipatharian hosts. Pseudopontonides principis, O. gracilis, and U. sp. were not confined to a single host species. Except for O. gracilis, collected by ROV in 2004–2005, these species have not been reported previously in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. -

Abstract During a study of the associated fauna of gorgonians and black corals on the reefs of Curaçao (Netherlands Antilles, Caribbean Sea) by the first author, a new species of Pseudopontonides Heard, 1986: P. plumosus sp. nov. was discovered, which is here described and figured. Key words: Crustacea, Decapoda, Palaemonidae, Pontoniinae, Pseudopontonides, new species, Antipatharia, Curaçao Introduction The genus Pseudopontonides was erected by Heard (1986) for Neopontonides principis Criales, 1980. Pseudopontonides is distinguished from Neopontonides Holthuis, 1951 by (1) the absence of an exopodal flagellum on the caridean lobe of the first maxilliped; (2) the presence of a vestigial arthrobranch on the third maxilliped; (3) a well-developed rostral hood, which extends anteriorly to partially cover the statocysts; (4) a reduced movable spine on the exopod of the uropod; (5) the armature of the antennular peduncle, which has two distolateral teeth instead of a single tooth; (6) the presence of a well-developed pterygostomial notch; and (7) short flagella on the antennula and antenna. The only species so far known in the genus is known to associate with species of the antipatharian genera Stichopathes and Virgularia (Heard 1986). -

Van Dolah November 1984 U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration National Marine Fisheries Service NOAA TECHNICAL REPORTS NMFS The major responsibilities of the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) are to monitor and assess the abundance and geographic distribution of fishery resources, to understand and predict fluctuations in the quantity and distribution of these resources, and to establish levels for optimum use of the resources. NMFS is also charged with the development and implemen tation of policies for managing national fishing grounds, development and enforcement of domestic fisheries regulations, surveillance of foreign fishing off United States coastal waters, and the development and enforcement of international fishery agreements and policies. NMFS also assists the fishing industry through marketing service and economic analysis programs, and mortgage insurance and vessel construction subsidies. It collects, analyzes, and publishes statistics on various phases of the industry. The NOAA Technical Report NMFS series was established in 1983 to replace two subcategories of the Technical Reports series: "Special Scientific Report-Fisheries" and "Circular." The series contains the following types of reports: Scientific investigations that document long-term continuing programs of NMFS, intensive scientific reports on studies of restricted scope, papers on applied fishery problems, technical reports of general interest intended to aid conservation and management, reports that review in considerable detail and at a high technical level certain broad areas of research, and technical papers originating in economics studies and from management investigations. -

Pontoniine Shrimps (Decapoda: Caridea: Palaemonidae) of the Northwest Atlantic

PERICLIMENES ANTIPATHOPHILUS NEW SPECIES, A BLACK CORAL ASSOCIATE FROM THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS AND EASTERN HONDURAS Stephen Spotte, Richard W. Heard and Patricia M. Bubucis ABSTRACT A series of Periclimenes antipathophilus new species, a small pontoniine shrimp, was collected from black coral colonies (Antipathes gracilis) in the Turks and Caicos Islands, British West Indies. Additional specimens from Antipathes spp. were collected at Roatan, Honduras. The new species is similar morphologically to P. iridescens but differs in (I) the presence of a triangular tooth on the moveable finger of major pereopod 2; (2) length of the carpus compared with the propodus of the major chela of pereopod 2 (carpus more than !4 length of propodus); (3) the presence of 4 or 5 spine-setae on the propodal flexor margins of pereopods 3-5; (4) the absence of an apical process between the mesial spine-setae on the posterior margin of the telson; and (5) the ventral branch of the lateral antennular flagellum, which is attenuated, of comparable length with the peduncle, and extends 4-6 articles beyond the tip of the antenna1 scale before bearing esthetascs. The two species also differ in color pattern and possibly habitat. Pontoniine shrimps of the genus Periclimenes Costa, 1844 are distributed wide- ly throughout the low-latitude marine waters of the world. Some species are free living, but many are associated
