*There is no record of an award being given in these years. Prior to 1968-69, there was a single competition group. Beginning with that year, there were two groups, based on circulation. In some years, only one award was given because of low participation or because an announced award was vacated. Beginning in 2008-09, three awards were given, one each for specialty, non-daily and daily competition groups, so long as there were sufficient entries.
