Byli oni uznawani za lud waleczny, znany ze swoich łupieżczych wypraw na sąsiednie tereny m.in. Rusi i Polski. Jaćwingowie zostali osta- tecznie podbici, wysiedleni i po części zasymilowani przez Krzyżaków w XIII wieku. Ich dalsze losy budzą kontrowersje wśród wielu badaczy. Niniejszy tekst prezentuje wyniki analizy działalności społeczno-kulturalnej mieszkańców re- gionów historycznej Sudowi, kultywującej dawne tradycje i obrzędy Jaćwingów. „Stowarzysze- nie Osada Jaćwiesko-Pruska w Oszkiniach” jest przedmiotem studium przypadku. Literatura dotycząca historii Jaćwingów jest obecnie szczątkowa. Wymaga ona uzupełnie- nia i usystematyzowania. Do opracowania prezentowanego zagadnienia wykorzystano meto- dy: historyczną oraz analizy i krytyki piśmiennictwa. Źródła wywołane, które pozyskano w czasie badań empirycznych, gdzie głównymi metodami były: obserwacja uczestnicząca oraz wywiad spontaniczny, są w tym wypadku ważnymi materiałami, które posłużyły do opracowania po- szczególnych problemów podjętych w tym artykule. Słowa kluczowe Prusowie, tożsamość, Suwalszczyzna, Jaćwież, ludy bałtyckie Współczesna nauka wskazuje, że Jaćwingowie należą do grupy ludów bałtyc- kich. Teoria ta została utworzona w XIX wieku i do dziś funkcjonuje w literaturze przedmiotu. Wcześniej powstało wiele koncepcji dotyczących etnicznego pocho- dzenia tej grupy. Niektóre z nich zebrał i opracował badacz Aleksander Kamiński1. Jego zdaniem pierwsza i zarazem najdłużej utrzymująca się w nauce teoria od- nosiła się do sarmackiego pochodzenia Jaćwingów, tj. od ludu Jazygotów Metana- sów. Pierwszym, który zasygnalizował taką możliwość, był pisarz Marcin Kromer. Teoria ta została następnie rozszerzona i rozpowszechniona przez takich badaczy, jak: Stanisław Sarnicki, Adam Naruszewicz, Jurgens Hening i Teodor Narbutt2. 1 A. Kamiński, Jaćwież. Terytorium, ludność, stosunki gospodarcze i społeczne, Łódź 1953, s. 150. 2 Ibidem. 12 Andrzej Jurkun Inna teoria głosiła, że Jaćwingowie są spokrewnieni z plemionami germański- mi m.in.: Gotami i Gepidami. Z kolei niemiecki uczony Johann Erich Th unmann wskazywał, że Jaćwingowie należeli do ludów lettońskich i pochodzili od Finów i Słowian. A. Kamiński powołał się również na – jego zdaniem – chybioną koncep- cję Dominika Szulca, która głosiła, że lud ten pochodzi od plemiona lechickiego3. W literaturze możemy odnaleźć również legendy, które tłumaczą genezę po- chodzenia Jaćwingów. Otóż ksiądz Jan Leo4, opisując historię Prus, wskazał, że za- łożycielem (Jaćwieży) Sudowii jest Sudo – drugi syn króla pruskiego Wejdawuta. Mieszkańców tych terenów nazywano Sudzinami 5. Zgodnie z pruską legendą to właśnie Wejdawut i Bruten byli założycielami i pierwszymi przywódcami Prus. Wejdawuta uznawano za arcykapłana, pośred- nika między bogiem a ludźmi. Podzielił on ziemię Prus między swoich synów i to właśnie od ich imion miały pochodzić nazwy pruskich regionów6. Stanisław Zajączkowski jest zdania, że saski humanista Szymon Grunau, który bazował na wiedzy swojego poprzednika, rodaka Erazma Stelli stworzył legendę o pochodzeniu Jaćwingów. Została ona rozpowszechniona początkowo przez hi- storyków pruskich i niemieckich, a następnie przez polskich badaczy w drugiej połowie XVI w.7 W XIX w. zaczęła obowiązywać teoria o bałtyckim pochodzeniu Jaćwingów, zgodnie z która należeli oni do tej samej grupy ludnościowej co Litwini, Żmudzini, ludy dawnych Prus i Infl ant. W Polsce została ona ostatecznie ugruntowana przez Józefa Jaroszewicza, który jednocześnie dokonał krytyki koncepcji pochodzenia Jaćwingów od Jazygów, Gotów czy Lechitów8. Teoria ta na stałe wpisała się w hi- storiografi ę Jaćwingów. Na przestrzeni wieków zmieniała się nie tylko geneza etniczności Jaćwingów, ale i sama nazwa tego ludu. Zdaniem A. Kamińskiego terminologia Jaćwingów wywodzi się z dziejów Rusi. Pierwsze wzmianki na ich temat znajdują się w staro- ruskim latopisie – „Powieści Lat Minionych”, którego najstarszy rękopis pochodzi z 1377 r. Wynika z niego, że pierwsze informacje na temat bałtyckiego ludu są da- towane na rok 983. Autor nazywa w nim Jaćwingów mianem Jatwiagi-Jatwiazie9.

    Apollo Korzeniowski's Poland and Muscovy

    APOLLO KORZENIOWSKI’S POLAND AND MUSCOVY Jerzy Zdrada The Jagiellonian University, Cracow Apollo Korzeniowski’s treatise entitled Poland and Muscovy has escaped the attention of scholars writing about the attitudes of Poles towards Russia in the post-partition era; to date only general summaries of the work have appeared in biographical notes on this “forgotten poet”. Presenting the essential idea of Korzeniowski’s “treatise-cum-memoir”, Czesław Miłosz rightly warns us against the rash tendency to ascribe nationalism to its author.1 In his turn, Roman Taborski, while granting the work “some documentary value”, defi nes it as “a sad testimony to a loss of perspicacity in this writer, who used to be so discerning in evaluating social phenomena”, adding that the treatise is “a historiosophic study which is imbued with extreme national chauvinism and continues the traditions of messianist ideology” by idealising Poland’s historical past and vilifying the Russian nation.2 In his pithy observation, Zdzisław Najder aptly emphasises the fact that “this embittered disquisition […] deals, in passionate tones, with Russo-Polish relations from the time of the fi rst partition” and with Russia’s place in Europe. Korzeniowski, Najder adds, shows Russia against the historical background of “a struggle between barbarism and civilization” as “a contemporary embodiment of Asiatic, Tartar, and Byzantine bar- barism”, thus accusing Western Europe of a “cowardly or naive attitude towards Russia”.3 However true these views may seem, they fail to do adequate justice to the con- tent, the character and the aim of Korzeniowski’s Poland and Muscovy. They do not take into account the connection between Apollo’s refl ections and the views, or rather 1 Czesław Miłosz.

The face, taken from a Baroque period portrait, is shown wearing a modern white-collar shirt. ‘How Polish is a Pole?’ the heading asks.2 Clearly, the ugly, round, bewhiskered face is meant to represent a stereotypical native of Poland (Figure 1). This cover of the popular weekly Wprost provides a perfect example of the use of a Sarmat figure in the twenty-first-century mass media. Thomas DaCosta Kaufmann observed that the Sarmatian idea of Poland is not just a simplistic vision of Polishness abroad, but also an image of the nation accepted and reproduced by the Poles themselves.3 Despite of its popularity, the term ‘Sarmatism’ still remains 1 This article is partly based on research enabled by the financial support of the Herder Institute of Historical Research on East Central Europe – Institute of the Leibnitz Association Marburg.     A CTA UNIVERSITATIS LODZIENSIS FOLIA HISTORICA 88, 2012 JACEK GOCLON (UNIWERSYTET WROCŁAWSKI) Rząd Leopolda Skulskiego (13 XII 1919 – 9 VI 1920), skład, funkcjonowanie i jego polityka wschodnia Gabinet Leopolda Skulskiego był trzecim rządem Drugiej Rzeczypospolitej i został powołany w jedenaście dni po złożeniu dymisji (w dniu 4 grudnia 1919 r.) przez poprzedniego premiera, Ignacego Paderewskiego. Funkcjonował około pół roku i to w okresie działania tego rządu nastąpiła „wyprawa na Kijów”, tak póź- niej brzemienna w skutkach dla narodu i państwa polskiego; stąd podjęcie zapo- wiadanego w tytule tematu wydaje się w pełni zasadne, tym bardziej że w histo- riografii istnieje pewna luka; gabinet ten, jego funkcjonowanie i działalność – szczególnie w zakresie „polityki wschodniej” – nie uzyskały dotychczas, zda- niem autora, wyczerpującego opracowania. Publikacja ta jest próbą wypełnienia tej luki. Jej podstawą stały się – zacho- wane w Archiwum Akt Nowych w Warszawie – protokoły posiedzeń Prezydium Rady Ministrów, wspomnienia pamiętnikarskie, relacje prasowe, źródła druko- wane i opracowania1. Ezen a napon, 1846. szeptember 27-én, 172 évvel ezelőtt adott koncertet Liszt Ferenc Kőszegen a Bálházban. Ennek az eseménynek az emlékét őrzi a ház falán lévő emléktábla is, amelyet Kőszeg szabad királyi város polgárai állíttattak. Liszt Ferenc hangversenyét a városi zeneegylet javára adta, s megérkezése előestéjén, szeptember 25-én a városi tanács közgyűlésén a város díszpolgárává választották. 2016. novemberében Király Csaba zongoraművész adott koncertet az Európa Ház Bibó-termében Liszt látogatásának emlékére, ekkor merült fel a Liszt kultusz elmélyítésének gondolata. A Felsőbbfokú Tanulmányok Intézete programjának keretében zenetörténettel foglalkozó kutatók és a hozzájuk csatlakozó kőszegiek képviseletében Szász Izabella kéréssel fordult a város önkormányzatához, hogy Kőszeg Városa támogassa a Liszt Ferenc Társaság Kőszegi Tagozatát.

Czech-Polish Historical and Pedagogical Journal, 11/2, 141–146. https://doi.org/10.5817/cphpj-2019-026 The article contains legislative work pertaining to schooling and education of the Legislative Parliament of the Second Republic of Poland (1919–1922) with regard to the political situation after the restoration of independence. Key words: Second Republic of Poland; Parliament; legislature on schools While in November 1918 the dreams of independence, which generations of Poles had cherished, were fulfilled, the borders of the Republic of Poland remained undefined. The dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the German defeat, and the civil war in Russia caused that the process of the establishment of new borders in Eastern and Southern Europe became long and complex, because of military, political, and economic reasons. While the borders were being defined, the clash of territorial ambitions led to conflicts which were decided by military force rather than reason. The interests of great powers such as France and Great Britain, which was unfavourable to the Polish cause, had to be taken into account by the lesser European states, such as Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, and Czechia, in their struggle for independence.
