Hello Musician, Callers, and Dancers, Anyone want to call, make music, and dance in New Zealand for a month, around Jan 15-Feb 28th 2016? I am going to do my best to follow in the footsteps of Ron and Cathy and keep their wonderful Contra Dance in New Zealand going. I need your help to get the word out to musicians, callers, and dancers to make this happen. As previous participants know, it’s a team effort. If anyone would like to help me organize this, let me know. Ron prepared the attached information letter. The itinerary shown is from the 2014 trip, The! 2016 trip will be similar. The estimated price will be $4200 each for couples, $4020 for singles, leaving from LAX. Please share this with others....The Contra Dance Bus is Coming...... Get on the list! Julie Anspach Gainesville FL [email protected]

The First Unitarian Church Contra Dancers are learning to Contra Dance! Last session, week 4, they learned 5 new moves and are progressing nicely. They learned and danced a “hey”, performed a “wave”, etc. We had 3 full sets but this next week two couples will be out of town, so we need to have some dancers join in on the fun for free!! Wednesdays First Unitarian Church (1U) 1901 E. Robinson Street, Gore Hall Orlando, FL 32803 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Alice Posted by: [email protected]

FOFF April - June 2015 7 Florida Music Food Initiative, Inc. A 501(c)(3) Charitable Organization President: MARY BETH CAMPBELL Directors: JENN WEIDLEY, JOHN FRENCH, DEBBIE JAMIESON NOTES The Official NEWSLETTER of FMFI March 2015 TO ALL PARTICIPANTS AND OUR MANY FRIENDS AND SUPPORTERS OF THE FLORIDA MUSIC FOOD INITIATIVE (FMFI)

Thanks to all of you, the FMFI is becoming more visible as it continues to raise awareness of, and food and monies for, the homeless and hungry here in Florida!

The FMFI Board is “off and running” this year and in the process of planning more great events for 2015, beginning with a larger presence at the various Folk Festivals throughout the state. For the current Festival Season (which runs through the end of May), please note that we will be selling our CDs at the Will McLean Festival, Sarasota Folk Festival, Ormond Beach Celtic Festival, Barberville Spring Frolic and at the Florida Folk Festival in White Springs.

On March 21-22, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (both days), The Sarasota Folk Festival has invited The FMFI to host a special “Busking Event and Food Drive” in the Festival area near the playground. Many of the songwriters on the FMFI CD will be performing at the festival and are invited to “Busk” their song from the CD as well as other songs as time allows during breaks in their performance schedules (both days). In addition, other interested songwriters/performers are also invited to “busk” during these times as well, with priority given to songwriters on the FMFI CD. Proceeds from the sale of the CDs and tips in the guitar case will go to the FMFI. All non-perishable food items will be donated to ALL FAITHS FOOD BANK in Sarasota, Florida.

On Saturday, April 18th, at the Ormond Beach Celtic Festival, plans are being made for a “Busking for Food” event. All are invited to join and participate if you would like.

At the Barberville Spring Frolic, which will be held on April 25-26, we will be sharing a Booth with the Lake County Folk Festival for the purpose of selling the FMFI CDs and distributing information about the FMFI and information about the Lake County Folk Festival event. There may also be a FMFI jam which will be held at one of the jam locations; time and location to be announced when the Barberville Spring Frolic schedule is released.

The FMFI will be performing at Topsail State Park & Roberts Hall (in the Panhandle, hosted by Lucky Mud) on June 4th & 7th respectively. We hope that you will join us at these events if you are in the area.

Also note we have an event planned at Olivia’s in Eustis on Sunday afternoon, July 26th and will be sending out more information closer to the event.

Other events will be scheduled later in the year and we will notify you of same once plans are made and finalized.

AGAIN, THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT! http://www.floridamusicfoodinitiative.org

On the web • www.FOFF.ORG 42 As of December of this year 2015, we will be suspending the printed version of FOFF Focus newsletter. Over the years we have struggled to remain a viable source of information with the printed version of the newsletter. However in today’s world with information at one’s fingertips, a printed newsletter may seem obsolete once delivered. FOFF will continue to publish a monthly E-Zine that will be available to all the members with the articles that you are familiar with. Recurring Music, Dance, Radio, Dates to Remember, and The Statewide Music Calendar will continue to be published in the new on-line version of the E-Zine. So please continue to support FOFF and the venues listed in the various locations throughout the state. I don’t think too many states can proudly boast about an organization like Friends of Florida Folk can. It has been an honor to serve as editor of this newsletter for the last 10 years.
