3 LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Section 1- Introduction

Dear NTSC family,

Welcome to the NTSC Competitive program. You are now on a soccer pathway which leads to the Canadian national soccer team!

The purpose of this handbook is to introduce you to the Club (the largest in Toronto), and its Compet- itive Pathway. It will also assist you with understanding Competitive issues such as: scheduling; the commitment we make to you and you to us; subsidies and sponsorship.

We believe that the Club’s Pathway will develop better players and better people. A few players may aim for National, Provincial or University/College programs and we will assist them as they work to- ward these ambitious goals.

Whether it is our Select, OPDL, League 1 or one of the club’s other Competitive paths, our Pathway provides a tactical map to achieve the goal of developing a complete player.

The Pathway will also allow all of our Competitive players to foster a lifelong love of the game, which may manifest itself in adult/senior soccer leagues, refereeing or coaching - all of which are destina- tions on our “Soccer for Life” path.

Please take advantage of the Club’s resources as you walk the Competitive Pathway.

I wish you the very best with your soccer goals.

Reg Watson President, NTSC

24 Section 5 - Events and Funding

25 EVENTS Section 5 - Events & Funding

Within the NTSC community we have great opportunities for our players to cheer on Team Canada and Toronto FC games. On top of this we have partnered with TFC to give our players the opportunity for fan activities to enhance their NTSC community event, with opportunities such as flag bearers, autograph signings, ball retreivers and player mascots.

NTSC families and members receive tickets at a discounted price includ- ing HST and handling charges. These are great team bonding and com- munity events for NTSC members to enjoy.

We are going into our second season with the North Toronto Nitros League1Ontario Men’s Team. We have opportunities as ball retrievers and player mascots. Gathering your team together to cheer on our high performance men’s teams is a great team outing and showcase of the Nitros competitive player development pathway.

26 SUBSIDY FUND Section 5 - Events & Funding

As a not-for-profit community-based organization, at North Toronto Soccer Club it is important to create spaces for children and youth to find their potential both on and off the soccer field.

North Toronto Soccer Club currently supports over 140 financially disadvantaged children in the community by covering a portion or all of their registration fees and other expenses (ex. equipment). The children in our program are recommended by social service agencies and the Toronto District School Board to participate.

Our mission to provide a place to play for everyone has built our League Sponsored Player Pro- gram from the core. We believe that through learning on the field this builds leadership and problem solving skills that can be used on and off the field to push themselves to be the best they can. The League Sponsored Player Program creates opportunities for children to stay active and explore their potential on the pitch to gain skills that will last a lifetime.

A portion of all North Toronto SC program fess support the fee subsidies provided. As well, many NTSC families make additional contributions and members of the community continue to sponsor players after their own children have completed our youth program.

The club’s cost per player to operate our 2016 outdoor season programs this year were: • Recreational programs: average cost $245 for each of our spring and summer seasons • Competitive program: average cost $1,259 for the outdoor season. (Ontario League player) Note: that high performance players in the Ontario Player Development League have fees that are roughly triple this amount.

27 SPONSORSHIP Section 5 - Events & Funding

Attaining a team sponsor or sponsors is evidently a key to any team’s fundraising efforts, due to the player fees funding can aleaviate a significant financal burden for players on the team.Team spon- sorship can be tailored to individual team needs. Teams can determine where and how sponsor logos appear on the jerseys, training suits, training jerseys, and equipment.

NTSC is also flexible with the sponsor logos on the website . In some cases, sponsors may be hap- py to donate smaller amounts for a letter of recognition and a framed team picture.

Receipts can be issued for businesses as an advertising/promotion expense. The club is a not-for- profit sports club and is not a charitable institution, therefore NTSC is unable to issue charitbale tax receipts.

Breakdown of Team Sponsorship Fee Use

85% of sponsor fees are used to directly support the team or age group sponsored, by reducing player fees (especially for players in need of financial assistance) and helping to pay for items not covered by the player fee (i.e. some festivals and tournaments).

15% of sponsor fees are retained by the club to cover costs of printing sponsor logos on team jer- seys, on promotional material including team banners (see attached), and on the www.ntsoccer.com website.
