Formulación concisa de la pregunta, objeción o complemento que se hace a la ponencia Para ello, nos hacemos eco del pensamiento expuesto por Duch, en la página 2 de la Ponencia 3, “... la familia siempre ha constituido un entramado imprescindible en cualquier cultura y sociedad. En efecto, siempre ha resultado imprescindible y se la ha reconocido como una de las instituciones de mayor significado para la existencia humana, porque es en ella donde se opera lo que es y va siendo cada ser humano en virtud, ante todo, de las múltiples relaciones que se establecen entre los miembros que la componen. La calidad de esas relaciones configura, sin duda, un espacio privilegiado a partir del cual los hombres y las mujeres nos humanizamos o deshumanizamos” (Duch, 2004). Nos parece interesante aportar la siguiente gama de narraciones fílmicas para aproximarnos a la educación en valores en la familia actual. Además de ser un arte de nuestros tiempos, el cine es una manifestación cultural, un testimonio social y un poderoso medio de comunicación con unos lenguajes propios (Hueso, 1998). A través del cine, la familia se muestra como un espacio y un tiempo donde se reflexiona entre lo que da calidad a la vida humana y lo que la degrada (Esteve, 2010). El espacio limitado que tenemos tan sólo nos permite mostrar un sencillo listado de películas, por orden cronológico, según una clasificación de quince subtemas para analizar los rasgos más característicos que delimitan el contexto actual de las familias. Somos conscientes de la flexibilización de esta clasificación, evidentemente, una película puede situarse en varios apartados. Estas muestras fílmicas significan auténticas narraciones humanas, imprescindibles en la comunicación, que marcan itinerarios pedagógicos de educación responsable en el ámbito familiar.     Absorbing the Worlds of Others: Ruth Prawer Jhabvala’s Adapted Screenplays By Laura Fryer Submitted in fulfilment of the requirements of a PhD degree at De Montfort University, Leicester. Funded by Midlands 3 Cities and the Arts and Humanities Research Council. June 2020 i Abstract Despite being a prolific and well-decorated adapter and screenwriter, the screenplays of Ruth Prawer Jhabvala are largely overlooked in adaptation studies. This is likely, in part, because her life and career are characterised by the paradox of being an outsider on the inside: whether that be as a European writing in and about India, as a novelist in film or as a woman in industry. The aims of this thesis are threefold: to explore the reasons behind her neglect in criticism, to uncover her contributions to the film adaptations she worked on and to draw together the fields of screenwriting and adaptation studies. Surveying both existing academic studies in film history, screenwriting and adaptation in Chapter 1 -- as well as publicity materials in Chapter 2 -- reveals that screenwriting in general is on the periphery of considerations of film authorship. In Chapter 2, I employ Sandra Gilbert’s and Susan Gubar’s notions of ‘the madwoman in the attic’ and ‘the angel in the house’ to portrayals of screenwriters, arguing that Jhabvala purposely cultivates an impression of herself as the latter -- a submissive screenwriter, of no threat to patriarchal or directorial power -- to protect herself from any negative attention as the former. However, the archival materials examined in Chapter 3 which include screenplay drafts, reveal her to have made significant contributions to problem-solving, characterisation and tone.

    BUTTERFLY JUMP MARY LEWIS A THESIS SUBMITTED TO THE FACULTY OF GRADUATE STUDIES IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF FINE ARTS GRADUATE PROGRAM IN FILM YORK UNIVERSITY TORONTO, ONTARIO September 2018 © Mary Lewis, 2018 ABSTRACT Butterfly Jump tells the story of a scrappy woman from the wrong side of the tracks who is a single parent determined to have her children fit into the upper crust. When her children are wrongfully removed from her care due to assumptions rooted more in class prejudices than fact, she must fight the system to get them back. In doing so, she undergoes a radical personal transformation. I am looking at lower-class life and its intersection or clash with the upper crust; Connie Noseworthy is our protagonist whose story carries the heart of the film. Connie’s actions may be viewed as unconscionable and simultaneously understandable. Firmly rooted in a sense of place, its tone is realistic, gritty, suspenseful and intermittently funny.     USC SCHOOL OF CINEMA-TELEVISION CTWR 418a: Senior Thesis The Independent Feature Screenplay Fall 2012 – (Four Units) Thursday 4-6:50, SCA 361 Professor Don Bohlinger Class Overview: CTWR 418a, “Senior Thesis”, taken together with 418b, is designed to see you through the development of your thesis project: a professional and polished feature screenplay. As you have enrolled in the Independent Feature Section of Thesis we will focus on character driven stories with limited budgets that challenge the viewer in several ways: the subject matter, the sense of place, the characters and their relationships and/or the way the story is told. A brief look at the history of independent cinema demonstrates that it has always been a good way for young screenwriters to start a film career. Beginning with groundbreaking genre films like Francis Ford Copolla’s Dementia 13, Jonathan Demme’s Caged Heat, George Lucas’ THX 1138 or Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead, the independent market then began to expand and tackle gritty, personal stories such as Martin Scorcese’s Who’s That Knocking At My Door?, Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It, Barry Levinson’s Diner and Susan Seidleman’s Smithereens. (Note: Although many of these writers went on to be directors or writer/directors, they wrote the screenplays for the films mentioned above.) Other writers and writer/directors used the freedom of independent market to challenge the ways of telling a film story: Terrence Malick’s Badlands, David Lynch’s Eraserhead, Jim Jarmusch’s Stranger Than Paradise, or Darren Aronofsy’s Pi are just a few examples.
