Tom Cruise Biography Pdf Tom cruise biography pdf Continue It's no secret that Tom Cruise has been struggling at the US box office for a while now. From 1992 to 2006, Cruz had a nearly unbreakable string of $100 million-plus box office hits - an unprecedented track record in modern Hollywood. (Two exceptions: R-rated erotic thriller Eyes Wide Shut and indie ensemble Magnolia.) Since 2006 Mission: Impossible III, however, Cruz seems to have come up with a terrible CJS case, i.e. Couch-Jumping Syndrome: His only film to bank more than $100 million in the U.S. was The Mission 2011: Impossible - The Ghost Protocol. The rest - Lions for Lambs, Valkyrie, Knight and Day, Rock of the Ages, and Jack Reacher - all had either disappointments or outright dips in the US. A true movie star should have a life for one franchise, but seemingly over the past seven years, The American audience has been interested only to see Cruise run, jump, and shoot like secret agent Ethan Hunt. That is, until this weekend. Cruz's sci-fi thriller Oblivion opened for $38.2 million, which is the 50-year-old's best domestic film for a film where neither Mission Impossible nor director Steven Spielberg was on the film's poster. (If you adjust for inflation, interview with vampire and firm did better.) That's doubly impressive given Friday night, much of the country stayed home to watch a live broadcast of the hunt for Boston bomber Dzokhar Tsarnaev. So does that mean Cruz finally shook off the scourge of CJS and returned to grace The American audience? It's possible. Oblivion had zero box office competition; Opening a few weeks before the summer of hippos like Iron Man 3 and Star Trek Into Darkness, will probably put Oblivion's debut numbers of shame. Curiously, while costar Morgan Freeman has a small supporting role at best, Universal featured him heavily in the film trailers, and even put his name and face on one of the Oblivion posters. For that matter, most of the rest of the film's posters also focus more on director Joseph Kosinski's stunning visuals than on Cruz's make-up. However, a good discovery is a good discovery. And if you notice that I was just discussing Cruz's record at the U.S. box office, it's not for nothing: he remains a uniquely huge movie star abroad. Valkyrie, Knight and Day, and Jack Reacher all pulled north of $100 million internationally, and after opening in several overseas markets over the weekend, Oblivion has already reached that benchmark: It has raised $112 million overseas. Now that it's worth jumping on some sofas. Follow the latest daily buzz with buzzFeed Daily Newsletter! Tom Cruise is one of the biggest movie stars of all time. He has been in the entertainment industry for over thirty years and has gone through a lot of controversy. Even in his fifties, Cruz remains the best talent and continues to appear in Budget Action Cruz is famous for his willingness to get physical and never shies away from performing his own stunts, despite the fact that many of them are dangerous. How did Tom Cruise become famous? Tom Cruise was born in 1962 in Syracuse, New York. Cruz has three sisters and was raised by strict parents. He spent part of his childhood in Canada after his father took up a position in the Canadian Armed Forces. It was in Canada that Cruz took part in acting for the first time and performed in several local theater productions. Cruz was raised Catholic and even briefly considered to become a Catholic priest. After graduating from high school, Tom Cruise moved to New York to fulfill his dream of becoming an actor. In the early eighties, Cruz quickly became familiar to the audience face to face. His early roles included roles in films such as Infinite Love, Cranes, Outsiders, Risky Business, and all the right moves. In 1986, Cruz became a breakout star when Top Gun was released. This film will set the standard for much of Cruz's career and began it in an action-making film career. Tom Cruise/Getty Images Gareth Cattermole is known for doing his own stunts after the huge success of Top Gun, Cruz continued to appear in many other major films. Some of them included Color of Money, Days of Thunder, Interview with the Vampire, and Mission: Impossible series. He also gained acclaim as a dramatic actor, expanding his range with films such as Rain Man and Vanilla Sky. Although his personal life often hit the headlines and he was married to actresses like Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes, Cruz retained the focus on his career and rarely talks about his personal life. Far and away, Cruz is best known for his penchant for performing his stunts. Over the years, he has become infamous for doing many of the most dangerous stunts needed for the film itself. Some of these stunts included actually driving a car during high-octane car chase scenes, sword-fighting in the last samurai, and doing dangerous deep-sea dives in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation. Most leading actors prefer to rely solely on stunt doubles, but Cruz seems to really like the element of risk involved in performing his stunts. Is Tom Cruise using a dubbing? The Tom Cruise effect has definitely affected Hollywood. There are several leading stars who have decided to follow Cruz's lead performing their own stunts, including Daniel Craig and Jason Statham. Even in his fifties, Tom Cruise continues to ow the audience by doing dangerous stunts. However, it does not go all the way in many cases; he has a stunt understudy with whom he has worked on several major films, including Jack Reacher and Knight and Day. Casey O'Neill stunt double Cruz and takes over for actor when something too risky for a veteran star to try. Tom Cruise shows no signs of slowing down. With a big new movie set for release this summer, it's likely that people will continue to flock to Cruz's movies for years to come. Tom Cruise/Getty Images Tom Cruise has received as much attention for his height as for his acting skills. How high is Tom Cruise and what is his net worth? In the early years, Tom Cruise made his debut in 1981 in the film Infinite Love. He played the role of Billy. He has since appeared in several other films, including Taps (1981), Outsiders (1983), Losin (1983) and Risky Business (1983). Rising to fame After gaining attention for his appearance in the risky business, Cruz catapulted to fame for his role as fighter pilot Pete Maverick Mitchell in the 1986 film Top Gun. In 1989, he received his first Academy Award nomination for his role as Vietnam veteran Ron Kovich in Born on the Fourth of July. He also received an Oscar nomination for his role in the 1996 film Jerry Maguire. Tom Cruise heights Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes /AFP/AFP/Getty Images Tom Cruise are reportedly five feet seven inches tall. His height became a problem when he was cast as the title role in the 2012 film Jack Reacher. The film, an adaptation of the eponymous book series about a former military cop, had some fans questioning the casting choice. That's because the original character is described as six feet five, with hands the size of a dinner plate, reports the BBC. While Cruz is a superstar, it didn't seem to matter when it came time for the tv series to get a reboot. The Jack Reacher reboot will continue in Tom Cruise's absence. According to the BBC, part of the reason is that the actor is lacking when it comes to height. Some readers have complained that Cruz is not fit to play Reacher. Cruz, for all his talent, didn't have that physicality, said Lee Child, author of Reacher in an interview with BBC Radio. I really enjoyed working with Cruz. He's a very, very nice guy. We had a lot of fun. But ultimately, readers are right. The size of Reacher is very, very important, and it's a big part of who he is. The idea is that when Reacher walks into a room, you're all a little nervous just the first minute. So I decided to do it no more movies with Tom Cruise. Instead we're going to take it to Netflix or something like that. A long form of streaming television, with a brand new actor. His love life didn't seem to suffer From Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise/Getty Images While Cruz's height became a problem with his role in Reacher, it didn't seem to have much impact on his love life. His first wife, Mimi Rogers, was reportedly five feet nine inches (they were married to years). Cruz was married to his second wife, actress Nicole Kidman, who is five feet eleven inches tall, for 11 years. He was then married to actress Katie Holmes, who is five feet nine inches, for six years. How much he earned for Cruz's Mission Impossible movies earned $70 million from the first Mission Impossible movie, according to Celebrity Net Worth. He earned $75 million from the second and third films and $70 million from the fourth film, Ghost Protocol. Cruz reportedly made $25 million for Rogue Nation. The actor paid $28 million for the Fallout Brain reports. Tom Cruise's net worth is estimated at $570 million, making him one of the richest actors in the world.

1 Tango as Exoticist Other in Hollywood Films: The Poetics of Desire, and Violence By Hannah Balcomb, University of Riverside, CA. This paper was presented at Encuentros/Encounters 2013 Tango: Argentine Music and Dance, Argentine Identity University of California, Riverside April 26, 2013 Sponsored by the Center for Iberian and Latin American Music 2 OPENING VIGNETTTES Scene 1: The camera opens on a pair of legs descending down the stairs, followed by a buttox, a torso, and finally a head. The woman crosses the room in a haughty manner; she does not acknowledge anyone, but calmly sheds her coat to reveal bare shoulders and a short, strappy dress. A man appears; he is tall, dark, and handsome–exotic. He carries himself with poise and strength, shoulders back, chest forward. The first piano chords ring out and, without speaking, the man and the woman begin to dance a provocative, smoldering tango brimming with sexual tension. The audience, a group of high school students, stare; they are entranced by these figures and their alluring dance. Scene 2: A man in a restaurant begins to engage a woman he does not know in conversation. He invites the woman to dance. Hesitantly she explains that she does not know how to dance the tango and is afraid of making a mistake. The man assuages her fears, saying “No mistakes in tango…That’s what makes the tango so great. You make a mistake, get all tangled up; just tango on.” The woman, seduced by this tantalizing and freeing suggestion, agrees to dance. The two maneuver gracefully across the floor despite the fact that the man is blind and the woman has never danced tango before.

FILM AT REDCAT PRESENTS Wed Feb 6 | 8:30 pm | Jack H. Skirball Series $10 [students $8, CalArts $5] Alexander Mackendrick: Filmmaker, Teacher & Theorist A Centennial Celebration The esteemed director of Sweet Smell of Success (1957) and The Ladykillers (1955), Alexander Mackendrick (1912–1993) was a pivotal figure in the history of CalArts, and his work and writings remain a major influence on contemporary narrative directors and screenwriters. For this celebration of the artist’s multifaceted contributions, Paul Cronin (editor of Mackendrick’s seminal book On Film-Making) is joined by two CalArts alums, director James Mangold and author and filmmaker F.X. Feeney. Together they honor the man who, as Dean of the School of Film/Video at CalArts and throughout his nearly 25 years of teaching, shaped an institution and inspired generations of filmmakers. This lively discussion reveals Mackendrick through personal reminiscences, film clips and critical observations on his work as a filmmaker, teacher and theorist. In person: Paul Cronin, F.X. Feeney and James Mangold “ ‘Process, not product’ was [Mackendrick’s] mantra to his students. The creative process—not the creative method, or the creative system. The process. Which never stops.” —Martin Scorsese One of the most distinguished directors ever to emerge from the British film industry, Alexander “Sandy” Mackendrick was born in the US to Scottish parents. Raised in Scotland, Mackendrick studied at the Glasgow School of Art. Afterward, he worked as a commercial illustrator, soon gravitating to making films, the first being animated advertisements followed by numerous live action short documentaries. Mackendrick’s feature debut was the Ealing Studios comedy classic Whisky Galore (1949).
