Description

The Parkway was a $288 million road development that connected the Federal Highway to the near Pialligo, ACT. The Parkway runs through the Majura Valley duplicating the existing in the northern section and continues south of the .

Approach

Comacon worked closely with Fulton Hogan to prepare the tender submission are on contract award, developed and delivered a comprehensive Construction Community Liaison Plan.

During the site establishment and early works, Comacon established relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders includng: Department of Defence, Airport, Australian Federal Police, tenants of and visitors to the Majura and Brindabella Business Parks, Mount Majura Vineyard, French Black Truffles of Canberra, Majura Valley Free Range Eggs, emergency services, gun clubs, users of Majura Pines recreational area, and cycling and equestrian organisations.

Once major construction commenced, we worked as part of the large multi-disciplinary project team, with responsibilities for implementing the Construction Community Liaison Plan which involved extensive engagement with key stakeholders and landowners, all community engagement activities and resolving issues on a daily basis in this highly sensitive and politicised region.

Highlights

As a key freight and tourist route, with up to 40,000 road users, the wider community was kept informed with a traffic update broadcast daily on radio, and through the project website, SMS, email, newspaper advertising and VMS boards.

The involvement of key stakeholders and landowners through consultation and collaboration resulted in quick solutions for construction challenges such as new bridges and animal underpasses.
