21 The Outback (written by Hüseyin)

The flat, hot centre of Australia is called the outback. The outback is more than two-thirds of Australia, but its population is less than 100,000. Many people live on sheep or cattle stations, which are enormous farms. There are a few cattle stations in Australia which are each as large as the country of England. The nearest neighbour is perhaps a hundred kilometres away, the nearest city 1,500 kilometres away. People travel by road or by air. On the roads you can often see road trains carrying cattle from the cattle stations. Small aeroplanes are used to take people, food, post and machines to places that are far away from the towns.

22 School of the Air (written by Oliver)

The School of the Air is a special school for the sparsely inhabited areas of Australia. The teachers send the work to the students by post. Today students learn with the help of the Internet. The material and homework are sent by e- mail. The first School of the Air was a school near Alice Springs. The School of the Air in Alice Springs had 120 students. The school has an area of 1.000.000 km². 15% of students at this school were Aborigines. At the moment about 220 children visit the School of the Air. They learn from the Primary School to the 10th grade. The subjects which are taught are languages, maths, information technology, biology, geography and art. German is the second language. The students spend one week every year in Alice Springs and during this time they can physically meet with their classmates and their teachers. In the first picture you can see the symbol of the School of the Air. In the second picture you can see a student doing his homework using the Internet.

23 Aussie slanguage (written by Oliver)

It is not known, how many languages the Aborigines spoke before the settlers came. It is said that between 200 to 300 languages were spoken, but Ethnologists believe that there were about 250 languages. Half of the languages are now extinct and about 20 different languages are learnt by Aboriginal children, but these languages are in danger of extinction. The remaining 100 languages can only be spoken by elderly Aborigines in Australia. Today the Australian language which is generally spoken is the so called Aussie-English. The Australians speak English just like you and me, but there are some words we do not understand. Here are some words in English and in Australian English.

Oliver: Aktekin Serafettin your work is not so good I think. You should do more, if you want to get a good mark in English.

Fabian: You don't really have much hope of getting a good mark.

Raphii: Serafettin your work is not good. You have not worked much. If you want to get a good grade you have to do much more. Can: Serafettin your work is not good. You started with animals and stopped. If you want to have a good mark then you have to do everything!

Mrs Richter: You have failed to answer any of the questions. You have not provided any information about the subject. In Captain Cook you only wrote that he was a British sailor, you could have found out much more information about him had you tried. In the animals section you only named the kangaroo, there are lots of different animals you could have written about such as koalas, emus and wombats for example. There is insufficient information in all of the sections. You should have done much more.

Mrs Exenberger: You did not write any text about your portfolio in 'Question' and 'Information'. Your ‘Final Thoughts’ are not okay. The layout in 'Sights' is terrible. The texts you have wrtten in each topic are very short. You did not put the addresses from the texts and pictures under 'Website Credits'. You did not try to make a nice portfolio. Your portfolio is really the worst of all. I think a pupil from Primary School can find out more about Australia than you did.

Oliver: Can Aydemir I think your work is okay for a 3rd level group. But I don't understand many of the words, for example: I don't understand what you did in Cities or in the Outback and so on. But other things are okay. I hope you'll get a good mark for your work.

Fabian: You did not do very much but for a third group it is good.

Raphii: Should I think your work is really good? It is good for a third level group.

Dodi: I think your work is okay for a third level group. I think you will get a good mark.

Mrs Richter: It would have been better if you had not taken so much text direct from your internet sources. You should have read the text and put it into your own words. I am not convinced that you fully understand all that you have put into your portfolio.

Mrs Exenberger: Your layout in 'Cities' looks terrible. It's a pity, you didn't work more carefully. Searching for information is okay but you did not write the texts in your own words.

29 Rinore: Melisa, I really like your portfolio, your animal section is really good. Tuba: It’s finished but I think you could have done better.

LaLa: Your's is good. Zeynep: Your work is good. :) Yaren: I like your portfolio. Good work!

Mrs Richter: Your portfolio would have been better if you had not copied text direct from the Internet, you should have read it first and then put it into your own words. In addition, using an on-line translater does not mean that the text is correctly translated. You often lose the true meaning. You obviously did not read translated texts or you would have found out the mistakes. I don't believe you fully understand what you have presented.

Mrs Exenberger: It' a shame, you copied all your texts instead of putting them into your own words. It was a good idea to put the manuscript paper of Waltzing Matilda in your segment 'Music'. Why didn’t you write all the topics in English?

Rinroe: Tuba your portfolio is really great, it is perfect. Nikol: Your portfolio is good. You have many pictures. It's great. =)

Melisa: Tuba your portfolio is perfect. I love the music, because it is very interesting and I love the didgeridoo.

LaLa: I like it very much and your pictures are beautiful.

Mrs Richter: In the section on sights you have the word Canberra but no picture. In the section on music you have basically lifted text from the Internet without reading it and then putting it into your own words. You could also have said much more about Captain Cook and his importance to Australia. The text about the School of the Air was a direct lift from the Internet. Again you should have put it in your own words. I don't believe that you understand everything that is in the text. It would have been good to read your final comments about your RPI portfolio, it's a shame you didn't include them.

Mrs Exenberger: The layout in 'Animals' is not very nice. Some texts are too long and all of them are copied. You did not write your final thoughts. Your work is really not well done.

Dodi: Fabian I think your work is not okay, because I don't understand your words. I think you have taken these words direct from the Internet.

Seroo: That was really good but I don’t understand the words. I hope you will get a good mark. Oliver: Fabian your work is from the Internet I know that because I found the same text on the Internet. Can: Your work is not good for a 2nd level group. You haven't written very much.

Mrs Richter: It would have been interesting to know your thoughts at the beginning of the project and at the end. You too have made the mistake of sometimes copying text direct from your Internet source and not putting it into your own words.

Mrs Exenberger: Your document 'Start' is very short. You have forgotten to write some texts in 'Question' and 'Final Thoughts'. You also have not found English titles for each topic. I like your page in 'Informaton' although you should write there what you have already known about Australia and where you will get the information from. It's a pity your music examples cannot be heard.

30 Miss Maria, Borroloola: Hallo Larissa! It is great to see your work. Big effort! I know, lots of information is missing - but - what is enough?! I really like it that your interview with William turned out well. Good on you! Keep in touch with William, he is a nice boy and enjoys school. Keep up your good learning. Maria Schafler, Borroloola.

Rinore: I think your portfolio is good.

Nikol: Your portfolio is really interesting. I think you did this really well. =D

Dodi: I think your portfolio is not good, because you are not clear about Aboriginal History and the Outback.

Raphii: Larissa I find your work is not good because although you have worked a lot, I do not understand anything.

Melisa: I think your portfoliio is perfect.

Tuba: Your work is very good.

Oliver: Lala your work is not OK for me because you don't have much text and I don't understand the most words. In the outback you copied the text you had got from Ms. Schafler’s worksheet.

Mrs Richter: You have kept most of your texts simple and I especially liked the interview with William in Australia.

Mrs Exenberger: The text in 'Outback' is a very short version from the worksheet written by Ms Schafler. Most of your texts are very short and simple, except Captain Cook. Why didn't you write some text about him in your own words? I really like the interview with William.

William: I really like it. It tells everything you need to know if you visit Australia. It =c++

Dear LaLa, You did a great job. Your portfolio was very interesting for me to read. I liked your story about Captain Cook. Please work as hard as now in future! With my best wishes and congratulation to your excellent work! Wolfgang Sonnleitner, headmaster

Miss Maria, Borroloola: Hallo Oliver! I had a look through your work about Australia. Well done, mate. Good job and I am sure you did improve your English. Keep up your good learning. All the best! Maria Schafler, Borroloola.

Raphii: Oli I find your work is very good. You have done a great deal and worked well for a first level group member, it is very good.

Can: Your work is very good.

Dodi: Oliver I think your work is very good for a first level group pupil. But I don't understand some words. I hope you'll get a good mark.

31 Mrs Richter: You have made a good portfolio. There is the right amount of text and pictures. Not too short and not too long. For some of it you have taken direct quotes from the Internet and some of it is in own words. It would have been better to have written it all in your own words.

Mrs Exenberger: Your portfolio is very nice. But you should write all your texts on your own. I know you have finished your work on time although there were some problems. Good work!

Wolfgang Sonnleitner: Dear Oliver! You did a lot of work in your portfolio! I´m sure you learned a lot about Australia! I hope creating portfolios is interesting for you! Well done!!!

Miss Maria, Borroloola: Hallo Hüseyin! Great work done and I am sure you learnt a lot about Australia. It is a fascinating country. Keep up your good work, mate. All the best for you! Regards, Maria Schafler, Borroloola.

Oliver: Hüseyin Kaya your work is really good. I like your work very much but I think there are many things that are not really okay. I don't understand many words but thank you for the tip that I can look them up in the dictionary. I hope you'll get a good mark for your work.

Raphii: Your work is very good and I find you worked very well for a first level group.

Nikol: Some words I don't understand but it is good.

Can: I find your work really good especially the sights.

Zeynep: Your work is really good.

Mrs Richter: You did very well. The language used is more simplified and easier to understand. You have not simply lifted and inserted text from the Internet. Well done.

Mrs Exenberger: Your portfolo is really very well done. You also finished your work on time. Perhaps you can change the colours of your headlines in the topics. Then the layout of your portfolio would be very nice.

Dear Hüseyin, Congratulations on your well known work. It was very interesting for me to read your portfolio. I liked the page about the animals, I learned a lot from you! You have some excellent photos of the sights, the cities and the outback. Congratulations on your excellent portfolio!!!! Wolfgang Sonnleitner, headmaster

Oliver: Denis Knesevic your work is not really okay I think. Where is the School of the Air and Aussie slanguage and so on? And I don't understand many words. I think you have copied this from the Internet but I am not sure. And why do you not have any text in the Animals section? You only have pictures. You only have time today to correct your work.

32 Fabain: Denis you have done very well and you have put a lot of work into it. !!!!!

Dodi: Denis I think your work is not good. I don't understand many words. I think you have copied the words from the Internet. Why don't you do it better? I think you will get a bad mark.

Raphii: Denis you have not worked much and I think your work is not good. But I wish you good luck with your mark.

Mrs Richter: Denis it would have been better if you had completed all the topics. In the animal section you found some good pictures but it would have had more impact if there had been some written information about each of the animals.

Mrs Exenberger: You totally ignored my messages. Your own texts in 'Information' and 'Final Thoughts' are missing. You didn't really work well in your portfolio.

Mr. Sonnleitner: I have read your portfolio and was disappointed, because you did not finish your work! What a pity! Please try to make it better for the next time!

Rinore: Yaren I think your portfolio is very interesting.

Melisa: Yaren your portfolio is good. Zeynep: Your portfolio is very interesting, it is a good work

Mrs Richter: Unfortunately you have mostly copied your texts into your portfolio direct from your Internet sources, without first reading them and then putting them into your words. Therefore some of your themes such as music, Captain Cook, School of the Air are too long. If you were asked to explain the meaning of some of the words I don't think you would be able to.

Mrs Exenberger: You ignored reading my messages. You did not tell anything in 'Informaton'. Your texts are not written by yourself, they are copied and they are too long. Your portfolio would be fine, if you had written the texts so that you could understand them. It's a pity that you are so lazy. I know you could work better if you liked to.

Nikol: Rinore your portfolio is perfect. I really like it. The page I like most is animals. Great work. =D

Melisa: Rina I love your portfolio it is very interesting. It is a great work!!!!

Tuba: Your snake picture is so beautiful and your work is very good.

LaLa: I think your portfolio is the best! (Y)

Gülser: Your portfolio is very good and interesting :)

Zeynep: Rinore your work is very good. I hope you get a good mark ♥.

33 Yaren: Your portfolio is very interesting. I like it and I had fun reading it.

Mrs Richter: Your portfolio would have been better if you had not taken text direct from the Internet. It would have been better to read it and then put it into your own words that you can understand. You also included text in German, which you could have translated into English using a German English dictionary.

Mrs Exenberger: It's a pity, you copied all your texts from the Internet without reading them before. The texts are too long and some headlines are written in a wrong colour. Some headlines are not written in English.

Miss Maria, Borroloola: Hello Nikol! It is great to see your work. Big effort. I know, lots of information is missing - but - what is enough?! I really like your interview with Chloe. It turned out well. Good on you! Keep in touch with Chloe, she is a nice girl and enjoys school. Keep up your good learning. Maria Schafler, Borroloola.

Oliver: grilyxD I think your work is not so good. You only have a little bit of text and many pictures. For example in cities, in music, in sights and in Captain Cook. In the Aborigines there is no text except two pictures. I know that you can do more.

Dodi: Nikol your work is very little for a first level group. Nikol you are also very lazy because you have in The Outback and other topics very little text and I don't understand many of the words. I mean your work could be better!

Seroo: This was really good for me. Nice work!

Tuba: You worked well.

LaLa: It´s very good. (Y)

Melisa: Nikol your portfolio is very good.

Mrs Richter: I would like to have seen more text, however at least you have for the most part used your own words. I especially liked the interview with Chloe.

Mrs Exenberger: Your texts are very short. You did not finish your final thoughts. The titles are not in English. The interview with Chloe is very nice. I know you could work better if you were not so lazy!

Hey Nikol, it's me Chloe. I think that is some fantastic work you have made and I hope you love it too. Bye Chloe.

Dear Nikol, It was very interesting for me to read your portfolio. I liked your interview with your "girlfriend" in Australia. You did it well!!! I hope creating portfolios is interesting! Thanks for your interesting work! Wolfgang Sonnleitner, headmaster

Oliver: Raphael Steiner I think your work is not so good because I think this is not from you. I think you have copied this from the Internet because I don't understand many words.

34 Fabian: Your work is very good I really like it.

LaLa: It's good but I don't understand many words.

Dodi: Raphi I think this work is not from you, because you have copied the words from the Internet. I don't understand your words. I think your work is not good. You should do this work better.

Can: Your work as a level 3 pupil is good in my opinion.

Denis: Raphael your work is good. I like it.

Mrs Richter: Your portfolio would have been better if you had not taken text direct from the Internet and then put it through an on-line translator. You obviously did not read through your text as you would have discovered that the translation quite often doesn't make sense and the word order is incorrect.

Mrs Exenberger: If you search texts from the Internet you should change the important facts into your own words. Then your portfolio would be quite good.

Rinore: Gülser I think your portfolio is very interesting and good and I love what you wrote about Captain Cook. It's good. Seroo: Gülser, good work, I think you will get a very good mark, NICE!!!!!!!:) Tuba: Your work is really good but you should have included more pictures. Melisa: Your porfolio is very good, but you should have added more pictures.

Zeynep: Your portfolio is very good.

Anita Richter: Your portfolio would have been better if you had not copied your texts direct from your Internet sources. You should have read them first and then put the text in your own words. I do not believe that you understand everything you have written.

Mrs Exenberger: In 'Cities' the picture of Canberra is missing. In some parts of your portfolio the texts you copied are too long. You should find information about Australia and then write everything in your own words.

Gülser: Zeynep your portfolio is good, but what about animals and music? Rinore: Zeynep I like your portfolio, it’s good work.

Melisa: Zeynep your portfolio is perfect. I like your portfolio.

Yaren: Zeynep, your portfolio is very good but I think you could have worked harder on this portfolio.

Mrs Richter: Unfortunately you have made the same mistake as your fellow pupils. You have copied your texts direct from your Internet sources and put them into your portfolio without putting the text into your own words. There is no information about animal life in Australia or anything about Australia's rich musical heritage. It's a shame! I know you are capable of much more. You could also have written more about your final thoughts on the portfolio.

Mrs Exenberger: It's a shame you copied everything from the Internet without reading the texts before. Some of your texts are too long. I'm quite sure you don't understand most of your texts in your portfolio.
