2 1 INTRODUCTION

The 12th Haarlem Jamborette will once again take place in the recreation area Spaarnwoude, located in Haarlemmerliede and Spaarnwoude. About 500 volunteers are eagerly looking forward to the first participants arriving at the Haarlem Jamborette site to put up their tents. After all, that’s what it’s all about.

The Haarlem Jamborette is organised by young scout leaders who mostly have great memories of previous camps in which they participated. Their experience has been put to good use when we planned the program for this Haarlem Jamborette. Furthermore, the team is supported by older Jamborette volunteers who will use their Jamborette knowledge to ensure there is a typical authentic Jamborette atmosphere.

Thousands of scouts will attend the camp. To ensure you have a safe and enjoyable experience, we have created this participant‘s handbook, in which you will find general information and the camp rules. If any questions arise during the camp, please contact your sub camp staff. And of course I’m also present during the camp to answer your questions and, more importantly, to listen to all your experiences during the Jamborette.

We look forward to ten fun-filled days and we wish you a very pleasant stay at this camp!

Cartoon your camp – Create Colour Compete

Once upon a time, the people lived hand in hand with Avatars. Men and avatar thrived by working together and making time for one another. Nowadays, the avatar are extinct, except for a handful of eggs, and the people divided into 4 cartoon lands. Each cartoon land developed its own culture and its own specific way of life.

Each land is unique and so they live on. But divided they are not necessarily stronger, they need each other more than they realise. It takes creativity, colouring and competition to accomplish protecting their way of life… and to make it even spicier, this cannot be done without the avatars…. Can we save them too?

The four cartoon lands are: ∙ REDDINGTON’ HARBOUR ∙ GREEN VILLAGE ∙ DUNES OF ORANGE ∙ YELLOWLANDS

Can we count on you to join us in our quest to protect the lands and save the avatar? All we need is your energy, creativity and colourful competition!

4 3 ACTIVITIES

The Haarlem Jamborette programme is divided into six clusters of activities. Every day you will join the activities of one of these clusters (Aqua, Arts & Crafts, Hike, Jambo Tours, Sports and Trail) with half the members of your sub camp. Within each cluster you can choose from a wide variety of activities. In this chapter you will find information about what activities to expect within each cluster. More information can be found in chapter 10 in the ‘Programme’ section.

A ticket is required for every activity, unless otherwise indicated. The sub camp staff will distribute the tickets to your leaders two days in advance.

Each activity has a limited amount of tickets available, which we will divide as fairly as possible among the groups. For each of the listed activities, a ‘programme time’ and ‘location’ is given. There is a map with the starting locations of these activities. This information may be altered and the final time and location will be announced during the Jamborette. The section ‘Leaders’ indicates whether a leader needs to be present at the activity. The section ‘Important’ contains the criteria for participation and/or tips and recommendations on what to bring along.

17 TEXT OF CAMP SONG - LET’S GET HAPPY’

Let’s go to the Jamborette For the best time you’ll ever get If you’re looking for adventure, then everything’s coming your way (Hey Hey, it’s coming your way) All these people you’ve never met Will be friends that you won’t forget Get the party started Listen to what we gotta say….

Refr: Let’s get happy and let’s be friends Hope tomorrow never ever ends And our world will be for you Let’s be happy each and every day All your troubles they will fade away And we promise we will give you Scouting in a typical way

(Da, da, du, du, daden dah….. Da, da, du, du, daden dah… Oh yeah) (Every day in a typical way)

See the girls in the wooden shoes And the windmills with the tulips too All are here in Holland In the land that seems to be flat (flat, flat, ever so flat) Take a hike and follow the trail Take excursions or send an e-mail A Coffee in the Mokkie At Haarlems Jamborette…
