The activities are designed to "demystify coding" and show students that anyone can learn the basics of comPuter Programming and become a creator of technology, not just a user. Code.org identifies close to 200 schools and organizations in Massachusetts that are taking Part in Hour of Code activities, reaching over 80,000 students during the coming week. The Massachusetts Computing Attainment Network (MassCAN), the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA), the Mass Technology LeadershiP Council Ed Foundation (MassTLC EF), and numerous partners across Massachusetts have been out in full force encouraging educational institutions to participate, including the many schools and education centers listed below. “It’s terrific to see the enthusiasm and excitement coming out of our local school districts for Hour of Code activities,” remarked Jim Stanton, Executive Director of MassCAN. “There continues to be a groundswell of interest in comPuter science education across Massachusetts, and we are excited to work with our Partners to bring comPuting education to every district in the state.” Throughout ComPuter Science Education (CS Ed) Week, which takes Place from December 8 – 14, Code.org predicts that Hour of Code events will take place in over 160 countries and 25,000 classrooms, with over 4 million students ParticiPating across the globe. "The international spread of the Hour of Code shows that interest in comPuter science knows no boundaries," said Hadi Partovi, founder of Code.org. "In the 21st Century, CS isn't just a course you study to get a job in software - it’s imPortant to learn even if you want to be a nurse, a journalist, an accountant, a lawyer or even a President." Even President Obama got on board kicking off the week telling students, “Don't just Play on your Phone - program it". You can view President Obama’s remarks here: http://bit.ly/1f2RCGn The Museum of Science is also celebrating CS Ed Week with a variety of events at the museum throughout the week and uPcoming weekend.
