From School Counseling: 10th and 11th graders: You must schedule an appointment with your school counselor to complete your schedule for next year. This must happen before March 29th. 11th graders - you received a link in your email to your counselor’s appointment book. 10th graders - you can sign up on the school counseling website. 9th graders: You received your course recommendation forms in homeroom last week. Counselors will be pulling students from math courses in order to meet with each student to review course selections during the last week of March and first week of April. In the meantime, please discuss your recommendations and electives with your teachers and parents and guardians. Please come ready to your assigned math class to choose classes. Scheduling 2019-2020: The 2019-2020 master schedule will be created based on student course requests. Students will remain in the electives that they have selected. Freshman and Sophomore students may be scheduled for an elective that they did not choose. Preference for electives is in descending order Seniors to Freshmen. Freshmen and sophomore students are expected to take a full schedule. We are very fortunate to have a wealth of elective offerings and taking advantage of the courses we offer strengthens your high school program of study. Additionally exploring learning opportunities that you may not otherwise consider may lead to finding a new passion. If it is determined that a level change is needed in a core academic class, that decision will be made collaboratively with the teacher, department head, parent and student on a case by case basis. Please note the language at the bottom of 9-12 course selection sheets: 3. ALL COURSE REQUESTS ARE FINAL ● Staffing and scheduling decisions are made based on the course selection of students in the spring. Please be sure to put classes that you are interested in taking, as schedule changes will not be possible once schedules are created and there will be no Add/Drop period. Aspen X2 new feature enabled - Password Reset Portal In Aspen, there is a self-service password reset feature which allows users to reset their account password without having to call the Technology Helpdesk for assistance. Please refer to the documentation below to set up your security questions. This documentation can also be found on the Technology department Aspen X2 Information webpage. There are also links on every school website under the homepage Quick Links and in the Families and Students menu section, so that it can be easily referenced. Aspen X2: Setting Your Security Questions for Password Reset Aspen X2: Self-Service Password Reset Instructions The Office of Technology strongly encourages students in grades 6-12 and all FPS staff to enable Aspen X2 security questions and use the password reset link. We are hoping the password reset portal will make the process of logging into Aspen X2 easier for staff, students and families as we approach the time of year when more people access their accounts for transportation registrations and viewing school data. Please note: 1. If your account is disabled, you will have to call the helpdesk for a password reset. At that time, we will instruct you on how to set up the security preferences. 2. They were among more than 250 high school students from 30 Massachusetts communities from Boston to the Berkshires who descended on the Quabbin Reservoir on Thursday, May 14th for the outdoor field competition. Each team can have up to 10 participants who split into specialized sub-teams during the competition, each focusing their efforts at different ecostations. At the fifth station, the Current Issue, each team gave a 15 minute presentation on “Climate Crisis: Taking Action in Massachusetts Communities” to a panel of judges. Teams researched the Current Issue in their own community in preparation for their presentation. Judges included environmental professionals from government agencies, non-profit organizations, academia and private industry. • Town of Needham ANNUAL REPORT 1711 – 2010
Town of Needham ANNUAL REPORT 1711 – 2010 NEEDHAM, MASSACHUSETTS Cover and back cover photos: The Public Services Administration Building located at 500 Dedham Avenue, opened February 17, 2010. This 2010 Annual Town Report is Dedicated to Carol Johnson Boulris Carol Johnson Boulris was born in Alton, Illinois, where her great-grandfather had settled after emigrating from Germany. She was high school valedictorian and was the first female from Alton to attend Harvard-Radcliffe. At Harvard, Carol received a degree in Economics. When the local newspaper recorded her degree in Home Economics, Carol quickly contacted the newspaper, which then printed a correction. It was at a Harvard-Radcliffe freshman mixer that Carol met her husband, the late Chester Joseph Boulris. “Chet” and other members of the varsity football team crashed the event at which Carol was chaperoning. Chet and Carol were married the following year, in 1960. Carol and Chet moved to Vermont for Chet to continue his medical training and Carol taught seventh grade Language Arts and Social Studies for one year. Their three children, Mark, Craig, and Loriel, were all born in Vermont. After serving for two years in a MASH unit in Stewart Air Force Base in Smyrna, TN, the Boulris family relocated to the Boston area for Chet to complete his residency. Carol’s father carefully researched schools in the area surrounding Boston. Needham Schools had an excellent reputation and would be a perfect option for the Boulris children who were 7, 5 and 3 to receive their primary education. The Boulris family relocated to their first home on Francis Street in Needham in 1969 and later moved to Country Way in 1976.
