BOLLETTINO DI ARCHEOLOGIA ON LINE DIREZIONE GENERALE ARCHEOLOGIA, BELLE ARTI E PAESAGGIO XI, 2018/1 ANNALISA FALCONE*, VERONICA IACOMI* ARCHEOLOGIA DELL’ACQUA AD ELAIUSSA SEBASTE, CILICIA (TURCHIA): UN CONTESTO DI SCAVO DI ETA’ PROTOBIZANTINA NEL QUARTIERE RESIDENZIALE PRESSO IL PORTO SUD Elaiussa Sebaste (modern Ayaş, Akdeniz Bölgesı, southern Turkey) has been investigated since 1995 by the Italian Archaeological Mission of “Sapienza” University of Rome. Excavations brought to light large sectors of the Roman– Byzantine public area (theatre, agora, baths), necropoleis, two city harbours, the so called “Byzantine palace” and part of the domestic and handcraft quarters. The site was, during the Roman age, one of the most important cities of Cilicia Aspera and maintained its prestigious role as a significant trading port until the late empire and the early Byzantine age, when it became one of the most active centres of LR1 amphoras production. This contri- bution will focus on the “Cura Aquarum Project”, started in 2009 and aimed at identifying, positioning and doc- umenting all the structures related with the water supply of the site. Recognition works were carried out identifying large sections of the aqueduct’s truck, the connected water tanks and numerous cisterns disseminated across the city. Together with the surveys, the complete excavation of one of the cisterns entirely cut in the rock found in the domestic early-Byzantine quarter – luckily sealed just after the site abandonment – contributed to clarify the im- portance of the rainwater harvesting system, even after the aqueduct’s construction, providing a significant portrayal of the latest phase of Elaiussa’s occupation. -

Robert Brakenridge Dartmouth Flood Observatory [email protected] ABSTRACT A new flood monitoring module is in development for the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS). GDACS is an information system designed to assist humanitarian responders with their decisions in the early onset after a disaster. It provides near-real time flood alerts with an initial estimate of the consequences based on computer models. Subsequently, the system gathers information in an automated way from relevant information sources such as international media, mapping and scientific organizations. The novel flood detection methodology is based on daily AMSR-E passive microwave measurement of 2500 flood prone sites on 1435 rivers in 132 countries. Alert thresholds are determined from the time series of the remote observations and these are validated using available flood archives (from 2002 to present). Preliminary results indicate a match of 47% between detected floods and flood archives. Individual tuning of thresholds per site should improve this result. INTRODUCTION Of all natural disasters, floods are most frequent (46%) and cause most human suffering and loss (78% of population affected by natural disasters). They occur twice as much and affect about three times as many people as tropical cyclones. While earthquakes kill more people, floods affect more people (20000 affected per death compared to 150 affected per death for earthquakes) (OFDA/CRED, 2006). -

Abstract Climate change is one of the biggest problems facing the world today due to its negative effects on human health and ecosystems. It is important to evaluate society's awareness of climate change to avoid this problem. Understanding the drivers of climate change attitudes is critical, as an action to address climate change is dependent on public awareness. Therefore, this research was carried out to identify the level of awareness and knowledge of climate change of residents in the province of Bilecik. In order to collect data, a questionnaire consisting of 11 questions was applied to randomly selected 508 people. Statistical approaches have been used to test the data collected from questionnaires. According to the results of the research, of the respondents 96% stated that they believe that climate change is occurring, 89% stated that climate change is occurring in Bilecik, of the respondents 87% believe that climate change is threatening. -

CERF ALLOCATION REPORT ON THE USE OF FUNDS AND ACHIEVED RESULTS DJIBOUTI RAPID RESPONSE FLOOD 2019 19-RR-DJI-40092 Barbara Manzi Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator PART I – ALLOCATION OVERVIEW Reporting Process and Consultation Summary: Please indicate when the After-Action Review (AAR) was conducted and who participated. N/A An AAR was not conducted due to the limited availability of UN staff in relation to the additional workload caused by the response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The government of Djibouti put in place containment measures, including the closure of land and air borders from March until July to limit the spread of the Corona virus. As a result, planned activities of UN agencies were mostly postponed, as national partners, including the Government of Djibouti, slowed down activities and agencies had limited time to deliver planned activities for this year. The recipient agencies have continued to support the government in managing this crisis, which has increased the workload of United Nations staff. However, recipient agencies (FAO, WHO, IOM, WFP, UNDP, UNICEF) were actively involved in the drafting of the RC/HC report. Due to barrier measures and alternate working arrangements put in place as a prevention to Covid- 19, the exchanges were carried out virtually. In addition, the beneficiary agencies worked closely with their implementing partners to report on the progress of activities. As a result, implementing partners, such as the Red Crescent and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Solidarity, have been involved and are aware of the data and information reported here.
