CONHEENEY, REEVES EARN ACC HONORS • Junior Kelly Conheeney and sophomore Jazmine Reeves were named to the 2011 All- ACC Second Team, announced by the conference office Nov. 3. This marked the first year Tech has had two women’s soccer athletes named to the All-ACC second team. • This is the second-consecutive ACC honor for Reeves. Last season she was named to the 2010 ACC All-Freshman squad. 2011 HOKIE GAME NOTES • NCAA - 2nd Round Pg. 3 HOKIES SET NEW SCHOOL RECORD • After defeating then-No. 8 North Carolina, 1-0, the Hokies notched a new school record with 10 shutouts during a single season. In 2008 Tech set a record with nine and then matched that record in 2009. The Hokies currently have 11 shutout this season. HOKIES CALM THE HURRICANES FOR FIRST CONFERENCE WIN • The Hokies struggled at the beginning of conference play, facing off with four NSCAA top-20 teams, including then-No. 4 Duke, then-No. 5 Wake Forest, then- No. 6 Maryland and then-No. 13 Boston College. Tech hosted Miami Friday, Oct. 7 and recorded its first ACC win of the 2011 season. The Hokies dominated all game, downing the Hurricanes 2-1. Shannon Mayrose recorded the game-winning goal in the last minute to put Tech on top. THREE HOKIES NOTCH WEEKLY HONORS • This week Dayle Colpitts notched her first Virginia Tech Hardee’s Star of the Week honor this season as she remained perfect in the win against then-No. 8 North Carolina. The sophomore goalkeeper tallied six saves as she collected the 10th shutout of her career. • Monday, Oct. 17, Kelly Conheeney was named Virginia Tech’s Hardee’s Star of the Week, while sophomore Jazmine Reeves was selected to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week for their efforts over the weekend. • Conheeney notched all three assists in the 3-0 win against Clemson on Thursday, Oct. 13. It allowed her to take sole possession over the Virginia Tech’s career points category in the all-time record books as a junior with 67. Conheeney is the first female at Tech to have 20 goals and 20 assists (24g, 21a). • Reeves led the team this past weekend with two goals, four points and five shots, including the game-winning goal against NC State. Junior Kelly Conheeney PARTY LIKE ITS 1994 records the game-winner • Before falling to Nebraska, 3-4, in double-, the Hokies matched their best season start with six consectutive wins since 1994. The 1994 squad shutout five of against No. 9 West Virginia to the six opponents, while outscoring them 18-1. In the six victories this season, Tech advance to the 2nd round of shutout four of its six opponents, while outscoring them 19-3. NCAAs. TECH DOMINATES WAKE FOREST TOURNAMENT • Tech dominated the Wake Forest Tournament, recording wins over Campbell (3-2) and Connecticut (1-0). Four Hokies were named to the All-Tournament team, including Shannon Mayrose, Brittany Popko, Kelsey Loupee and Kelly Conheeney. HOKIES HOST HILTON GARDEN INVITATIONAL • The Hokies hosted the Hilton Garden Hokie Invitational, inviting ACC-opponent Wake Forest, Nebraska and Loyola (Md.). Tech did not see action against Wake Forest and fell to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in a thrilling double-overtime game Saturday. Tech closed the invitational with a shutout against Loyola, including four Hokies being selected to the Hilton Garden Hokie Invitational All-Tournament team. Ashley Manning, Kelly Conheeney, Brittany Popko and Anne Lumpkin all made the squad. HOKIES RANKED NATIONALLY • After receiving 48 votes the third week in the National Soccer Coachs Association of America poll, the Hokies entered week four at No. 25. In addition to the NSCAA Poll, Tech entered the Top-25 in the Soccer America rankings the previous week, sitting tied for 25 with Pepperdine. In week four Tech jumped up to No. 15, but fell to No. 20 in week five. Tech finished the regular season at the No. 24 spot in the TopDrawerSoccer.com poll and 25th in Soccer America. FROM CORNERS TO HEADERS • The Hokies are known to attack the goal and as a result, Tech has out-cornered its opponents 121-59 this season and sits third in the conference in corner kicks. The Hokies have tallied at least two in each of the 21 games so far. On Sept. 4 against Connecticut, Tech recorded 14 corners, while the Huskies only tallied one. Tech holds a Kelly Conheeney 1.33 5th 39-20 scoring record against its opponents in 21 games and is sixth in the conference in goals. Kelly Conheeney leads the team with an impressive 11 goals and six assists GOALS this season after she notched the game-winning goal against West Virginia. Shannon Mayrose 8 t-9th Jazmine Reeves charted her fifth goal against NC State last Sunday, while Anne Lumpkin tallied her third goal off a penalty kick against Boston College. Kelly Conheeney 6 t-1st DEFENSE SHUT NON-CONFERENCE DOWN GOALS AGAINST AVG. • The Hokie defense shut down its non-conference opponents this season by allowing Dayle Colpitts 0.82 6th only seven goals. Tech shut out six of the nine teams and scored at least three goals in five of the six contests, including UNC Greensboro (4-0), High Point (3-0), Elon (5- SAVE% 0), Loyola (Md.) (3-0) and Appalachian State (4-0). Conheeney helped lead the Hokies to a 2-0 start to the 2011 season. Oct. 30, 2011 Hokies battle but fall short to Duke, 1-0 DURHAM, N.C. – The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team fell short to the top-seeded , 1-0, in the first round of the ACC Tournament Sunday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium. Duke recorded an early first-half goal to secure the victory. Two minutes into the first half, Duke (17-2-1) found the back of the net after the Blue Devils were awarded a free kick on the near side about 25 yards out. Molly Patham took a shot that the Tech defense deflected and Laura Weinberg dished the ball to Kelly Cobb that sneaked past the Hokie keeper, Dayle Colpitts as the 2:51 mark. Tech (12-7-1) responded with the first corner kick of the game a few seconds later, but the Blue Devil defense flushed the ball out of the box. Senior Katie Cramp had a chance to tie the game, when Jazmine Reeves dribbled down the far sideline and dished it to Cramp 20 yards out but her shot just missed the goal.
