Since winning the 22nd season of Dancing With The Stars and the 22nd cycle of America’s Next Top Model, NYLE DIMARCO has been an ambassador for the Deaf community and works to influence audiences that with a sense of community, commitment to your goals and a belief in yourself, you can accomplish anything. Born into a multigenerational deaf family, he is an honorary spokesperson for Language Equality and Acquisition of Deaf Kids (LEAD-K) and founder of the Nyle DiMarco Foundation, which works to improve the lives of deaf people around the world. DiMarco produced the 2018 Broadway production of Children of a Lesser God, and was a creative collaborator on The ASL App, created by native deaf signers to teach conversational American Sign Language. Believing that his deafness is “an asset rather than a limitation,” his work continuously strives to build bridges between the deaf and hearing by shining a light on the struggles and triumphs of Deaf culture. Being deaf, genderqueer, trans masculine, Chinese, and Jewish, CHELLA MAN found he did not have role models to look up to, so he decided to be his own representation. The motto of, “Be your own representation,” has become a pillar of his work and teachings. Since beginning his collegiate studies at the New School in Manhattan, he has built a following of 245,000 YouTube subscribers, written for Condé Nast’s first queer publication Them, and launched a radically inclusive clothing line in collaboration with Opening Ceremony. Man also signed as the first deaf and trans masculine model with IMG Models, and was cast as a superhero in DC Universe’s live-action series Titans. Through his talks, he opens up about his experiences transitioning on testosterone, navigating the world with a disability, and facing isolation while growing up in a small, conservative Pennsylvania community.
