ROBERT T. WAGNER.. � ...... � ...... PRESIDENT Dr. Robert T. Wagner became president of South Dakota State University in May of 1985 and has demonstrated extraordinary leadership skills. Wagner had been vice president of Dakota State College in Madison when he was named to head SDSU. The 54-year-old Wagner is a native of Sioux Falls, a graduate of Washington High School and Augustana College (1954). After attending Augustana, he earned a degree in theology and education from Seabury Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, · Ill., and is an ordained Episcopalian priest. He was rector of the Holy Apostles Episcopal Church in Sioux Falls and later the Trinity Episcopal Church in Watertown before joining the SDSU staff in 1970. He spent 14 years at SDSU and from 1981 to 1984 was assistant to the vice president for academic affairs. He earned a Doctorate in sociology at SDSU in 1972. He has done extensive research on the elderly in South Dakota and on population projections for the state. Wagner's wife, Mary, was a Republican state legislator from Brookings County. The couple has two grown children.

FRED OIEN ...... ATHLETIC DIRECTOR/HEAD OF HPER Dr. Fred Oien became the 11th athletic director at South Dakota State University July 1, 1990. Oien earned his Bachelor's Degree at SDSU in 1972 and has been on the SDSU staffsince 1979, servingas athletic business/ticket manager since 1981. Oien is a 1968 graduate of Baltic, SD, High School. He added a Master's Degree at SDSU in 1975, then completed his doctorate (Ed.D) at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 1979. Oien taught physical education and health at the Brookings Middle School 1973-76, during which time he was varsity golf coach for both boys and girls, and middle school basketball and football coach. His golf teams won state championships for both boys and girls. Oien was also women's golf coach at SDSU, guiding the Jacks to one North Central Conference championship. The SDSU women's golf team of 1982 was voted South Dakota Women's College Team of the Year. Oien, and his wife, Mary, have two children.

MYLO HELLICKSON ...... FACULTY REPRESENTATIVE Dr. Hellickson has been South Dakota State University's faculty representative to the North Central Conference and NCAAsince 1977, and as such is also chairman of the Athletic, Intramural and Recreation Committee on campus. Hellickson is director of agriculture extension at SDSU. He has been on the SDSU staff since 1969, serving as a professor in agricultural engineering until he was appointed as head of that department during the summer of 1982. Dr. Hellickson's specialty has been in the area of livestock structures and environment with recent emphasis on solar energy use in agriculture. A native of Belfield, ND, he earned a Bachelor's Degree in agricultural engineering from North Dakota State University in 1964, added a Master's Degree in the Ag Engineering from NDSU in 1966, then earned a Ph.D. in engineering at West Virginia University in 1969. He was included in Outstanding Young Men of America in 1970. Hellickson was presented the North Central Conference Meritorious Service Award at the November, 1990, meeting.

JIM BOOHER ...... ATHLETIC TRAINER Dr. James Booher heads one of the top athletic training operations in the Upper Midwest. He has been responsible for the development and growth of the athletic training-physical therapy program at SDSU and has had exceptional results in placing students as they advance toward their physical therapy degree. Booher is a native of Ashland, Neb. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biology at Nebraska Wesleyan in 1965. He played on the Pioneers' basketball team which lost to SDSU in the finals of the NCAA regional tournament in Brookings the year State went on to win the national championship in 1963. He received physical therapy training at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., then earned a Master's Degree in HPER at SDSU in 1969. He completed his doctorate at the University of Utah in 1976. Booher has been on the SDSU staffsince 1967, although he split time between the university and the Brookings Hospital until 1975 when he became a full-time staffmember at SDSU. Booher has written a manual on the prevention and care of athletic injuries and more recently co-authored a textbook entitled "Athletic Injury Assessment". Booher and his wife, Kathy, have three children. Booher is a member of the North Central Conference Hall of Fame and the South Dakota Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame. Trent was a graduate assistant at North Dakota State for two seasons before joining the Jackrabbits. He coaches the defensive line and is in charge of the SDSU strength/conditioning program. A graduate of Laconia High School in Rosendale, Wis., he earned a Bachelor's Degree at Bemidji State in 1987 and added a Master 's at NDSU in 1992. He was a two-time all-Northern Intercollegiate Conference pick at Bemidji, where he lettered four times. Baalke stayed at Bemidji State as an assistant coach one season (1986), then was an assistant two. seasons (1987-88) at Inver Hills Community College in the Twin Cities. The 29-year-old Baalke and his wife, Beth, have one daughter, Katlynn, born in August of 1991.

GREG ETTER ...... DEFENSIVE BACKFIELD

Greg was the final addition to Coach Daly's staff, joining the Jacks in July 1991 after completing work on his Master's Degree at the University of Wisconsin. A native of Oconomowoc, Wis., Etter earned a Bachelor's Degree at Mankato State in 1987. He had been an assistant coach at the high school level at Madelia (1985-86) and Fairmont (1987). He enrolled at Wisconsin in May 1989. He was an assistant defensive backfield coach for the Badgers as a graduate assistant. Etter and his wife, Kerry, were married in July of 1991.

CARL LARSON ...... OFFENSIVE LINE RECRUITING COORDINATOR

Carl had been and recruiting coordinator for the highly successful program at Northern State ... a native ·of Amboy, MN, he attended Mankato State 1975- 76, then transferred to St. Cloud State where he received a Bachelor's Degree in 1980. He earned all-Northern Intercollegiate Conference, all-region and NAIA All-America honors for the Huskies in 1978, then had a tryout with the . He added a Master's Degree at Northern in 1989. Larson coached at St. James, MN, High School 1980-86, then joined the Northern staff. Larson, 36, and his wife, Carol, have two children: Jonathan, 10, and Christian, 8. JACKRABBIT ASSISTANT COACHES

JAY SCHOENEBECK ..... OFFENSIVE BACKS AND RECEIVERS SPECIAL TEAMS COORDINATOR

Jay came to South Dakota State from Gustavus Adolphus where he had been offensive coordinator for three seasons. Schoenebeck is a native of Green Bay, Wis. He attended Gustavus Adolphus where he was an All-America runningback. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in 1980, then added a Master's Degree at the University of Wisconsin in 1987. He remained at Wisconsin as a part-time coach and administrative assistant to the recruiting coordinator.

JOHN STI EGELM EIER ...... DEF ENSIVE COORDINATOR

John has been on the SDSU staffsinc e July of 1988. A Selby native, he earned a Bachelor's Degree at SDSU in 1979, then added a Master's Degree at Northern in 1981. He coached at Eau Claire, Wis., North High School 1981-84 , then became defensive coordinator, secondarycoach and recruiting coordinator at Northern State College in Aberdeen, a position he held until enrolling at the University of Wisconsin where he was a graduate assistant coach while working on his doctorate. John and his wife, Laurie, have four children.: Anna, 1 O; Isaac, 8; Liesbeth 2 and Samuel, six months.

"The Mike Daly Show" Returns For Third Season "The Mike Daly Show" will return for its third season with telecasts on KELO-TVan d the Midwest Sports Channel. The commercial airing on KELO will again be at 10:35 p.m. each Sunday during the season, starting September 5. The cable showing on MSC will be 6 p.m. on Wednesday, starting Sept. 8.
