Mino Paper Artist in Residence ‘14 Mino Paper Artist in Residence ‘14 We are inviting domestic and foreign artist to stay in Mino city for a certain period of time so that they may create their original works of art out of Mino Japanese Paper. How to apply Please submit your completed application form and no more than 6 pictures (width of 800-1000 pixels) to Mino Cultural Hall so that all materials are received by April 10, 2014. >>Email (Recommend): Attach and send your completed application form and pictures to [email protected]. >>Post Mail: Print and complete your application form. Send the form by post mail together with your pictures saved on a CD or DVD to the address below. All materials must be received by April 10, 2014. Notice of Decision Decision will be made in the beginning of July and all applicants will be notified of the result. Support 1) Transportation fees to Central Japan International Airport (Round trip, Economy class, the shortest route) [It will be calculated based on the standard set by the Art Village. There is a limit to airfare we can pay. 2) You are expected to be provided with 50,000 yen per month for the expense related to your artistic activities and other basic expense. 3) You are provided a host family. (Basically supported to stay with a host family. This includes accommodation, breakfast and dinner.) 4) Volunteers support artists about interpreting and others during your stay. 5) The studio is arranged, but it has no good equipments. Please bring the tools you need for your products. Conditions and eligibility 1) You should complete a work of art during your stay using Mino Japanese paper as your motif. 2) The period of invitation is 90 days. The invited person should come to Mino between 9th September, 2014 and 11th September, and return to his/her country after 7th December, 2014. 3) Artist who are 20 years or over. 4) You are required to lead community life with other artists on the program and communicate with local people including the exchange program staff. 5) You should donate your works made of paper to Mino city before leaving. 6) Artist who are willing to continue to promote the quality and beauty of Mino Japanese paper to people in your country after your return. 7) Artist are required to report to us during the program at Mino within a year after you go back to your own country by articles or papers at newspapers, magazines and we site etc. 8) During your stay, you can take within 10 holidays. But it is impossible to go abroad. 9) You should come to Mino with insuring yourself against injury and disease in your country for your stay. 10) Health of both body and mind. 11) You are required to understand the purpose of each events and schedules in this project. 12) Committee reserves the right to record the artists’ activities in this project and use them for publicity. 13) Committee will make artists record catalogue and present thirty catalogues to the artists. In order to ensure the conservation and promotion of this agricultural heritage, the “Nagara River Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Promotion Association” as well as the “Pristine Nagara River Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Sector Players” have formed close ties together and this document lays out in detail the numerous efforts of the various members of these groups and other related parties. The Nagara River, which flows through the southern region of Gifu Prefecture, supports a population of 860,000 on its basin and despite flowing through urban areas boasts bountiful and pristine waters of immaculate quality.

Sheet density and elastic modulus of washi are low, showing poor fiber―fiber bonding. However in―plane mechanical properties of washi are superior to those of wood pulp papers, especially tear strength and folding endurance are enormously excellent. Foundation Winners Announced for the First Tiffany Foundation Award The Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE) and the Tiffany & Co. Foundation are pleased to announce the winners of the first Tiffany Foundation Award for the Preservation of Japanese Traditional Arts and Culture in Contemporary Society. From the end of December 2007 to the end of January 2008 JCIE requested nominations for the award from experts and institutions active in relevant fields throughout Japan. In addition, organizations with a strong record of carrying out exemplary activities in keeping with the objectives of this award were also invited to directly nominate themselves. The following three objectives were established to select winners for this award: (1) Incorporate the heritage of traditional local culture into the contemporary activities of modern society by mobilizing the participation of a wide range of citizens in traditional cultural activities; (2) Revive traditional cultural activities that have been passed down through the generations with the purpose of regenerating a sense of local pride and contribute to community revitalization; (3) Promote domestic and international exchange related to the theme of traditional arts and culture to rejuvenate local communities and open them to the rest of the world. After careful selection, the following organizations were selected from 21 applicants for a Taisho award and from 33 applicants for a Shinkosho award.
