It is apparently the first amber fossil that can be definitively assigned to Tenthredininae. It displays two diagnostic forewing characters for this subfamily: having a bend distally in vein R and the junctions of veins M and Rs + M with vein R being some distance from each other. The variance and possible transitions between the anal vein configurations among the genera in Tenthredininae is briefly discussed. Keywords amber inclusion, sawfly, Tertiary, Eocene, taxonomy Introduction Tenthredinidae is the largest family of non-apocritan Hymenoptera by far, comprising more than 5500 described species (Huber 2009; Taeger & Blank 2010). Together with five other families they comprise the Tenthredinoidea or true sawflies. The larvae of the members of the superfamily are all herbivores and most are external feeders on green parts of angiosperms; however, other host plants and feeding modes (e.g., leafrolling, leafmining, or galling in leaves, buds and shoots; see Nyman et al. 1998, 2000) do occur. Recent comprehensive treatments of the phylogeny of the basal hymenopteran lineages, while providing strong support for the Tenthredinoidea, have consistently failed to retrieve the Tenthredinidae as monophyletic (Vilhelmsen 2001; Schulmeister 2003; Ronquist et al.

A total of 4982 specimens be longing to 475 different species \vere collected. Extrapolations from double-log functions revealed that there may be as many as 1330 parasitoid species present per year. 455 of the 475 species were parasito ids. 155 of them attack dipterans. 48 lepidopterans. 36 beetles. 23 wasps, 22 plant hoppers and 13 ap hids. 47 of the species are egg-parasitoids and parasitoids of miners. ectophytophages count for 44 of 2 the \V asp species. The abundance of the wasp fauna was rather high ( 1120 ± 53 in d. m- a- I ( 1986) and 2 1 335 ± 42 ind. m - a- ( 1988). Most abundant were the parasitoids of miners, gall-makers and the egg parasitoids. Compared \vith the high abundance the biomass was low. In 1986 the wasps weighed a total 2 1 2 1 of 194 ± 24 n1gDW m- a- and in 1988 only 69 ± 20 mgDW m- a- . The parasitoids of ectophytopha gous lepidopterans and coleopterans counted for n1ore than half of the whole biomass. • Sawflies (Hymenoptera: Symphyta) in the Northeast of the Czech Republic with Special Regard to Spruce Forests
JOURNAL OF FOREST SCIENCE, 61, 2015 (3): 112–130 doi: 10.17221/112/2014-JFS Sawflies (Hymenoptera: Symphyta) in the northeast of the Czech Republic with special regard to spruce forests K. Beneš, J. Holuša Department of Forest Protection and Entomology, Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Prague, Czech Republic ABSTRACT: Sawflies were collected in the northeast of the Czech Republic using Townes type Malaise traps. Traps were placed in eleven young Norway spruce (Picea abies) forests during the period from 1998 to 1999. Localities cover altitudes from 230 to 1,000 m a.s.l. In total, 285 species of Symphyta have been recently known from the study area (Xyelidae – 1, Pamphiliidae – 7, Argidae – 10, Cimbicidae – 3, Diprionidae – 5, Tenthredinidae – 252, Siricidae – 1, Xiphydriidae – 1, Cephidae – 5). The majority of the species have large distributional ranges and their host plants are forest tree species. Most of the sawflies were obtained from Malaise traps located in the young spruce stands, and therefore the silvicolous species prevail. Neodineura arquata represents a new genus and species and Heptamelus dahlbomi a new species for the fauna of the Czech Republic. Nine species have been classified as endangered and twenty-one species have been classified as vulnerable. Pristiphora robusta has been deleted from the list. Keywords: Malaise trap; faunistics; host plants; abundance The Symphyta fauna of Moravia (eastern part of (1989) summarized the known records and listed the Czech Republic, see below) is quite well known 520 species from Moravia. Liston,T. Nyman, II. Nie, II. Savina, A. Taeger, M. Wei: Príspevok k poznaniu fauny hrubopásych (Hymenoptera, Symphyta) Národného parku Nízke Tatry Abstrakt: Počas deviateho medzinárodného pracovného stretnutia špecialistov na hrubopáse blanokrídlovce (Hymenoptera, Symphyta) v júni 2005 bol vykonaný ľaunistický prieskum hrubopásych na viacerých lokalitách Národného parku Nízke Tatry. Celkovo bolo zaznamenaných 200 druhov a osem čeľadí hrubopásych. Ďalších dvanásť taxónov nebolo identifikovaných do druhu. Dolerus altivolus, D. hibernicus, Eriocampa dorpatica, Euura hastatae, Fenella monilicornis, Nematus yokohamensis tavastiensis, Pachynematus clibrichellus. Phyllocolpa excavata, P. polita, P. ralieri, Pontania gallarum, P. virilis, Pristiphora breadalbanensis, P. coactula a Tenthredo ignobilis boli zistené na Slovensku po prvýkrát. Významný počet ľaunistický zaujímavých nálezov naznačuje vysokú zachovalosť študovaných prírodných stanovíšť v širšom okolí Demänovskej a Jánskej doliny, Svarína a v národnej prírodnej rezervácii Turková. Kľúčové slová: Hymenoptera, Symphyta, Národný park Nízke Tatry, ľaunistický výskum INTRODUCTION Sawflies are the primitive phytophagous hymenopterans (suborder Symphyta), represented in Europe by 1366 species (LISTON, 1995; TAEGER & BLANK, 2004; TAEGER et al., 2006). In Slovakia, about 650 species belonging to 13 families of the Symphyta should occur (ROLLER, 1999).

• Taxonomy, Distribution and Biology of Selected European Dinax, Strongylogaster and Taxonus Species (Hymenoptera: Symphyta)
ACTA ENTOMOLOGICA MUSEI NATIONALIS PRAGAE Published 30.vi.2010 Volume 50(1), pp. 253–271 ISSN 0374-1036 Taxonomy, distribution and biology of selected European Dinax, Strongylogaster and Taxonus species (Hymenoptera: Symphyta) Jan MACEK Department of Entomology, National Museum, Kunratice 1, CZ-148 00, Czech Republic; e-mail: [email protected] Abstract. The Central European species of Dinax Malaise, 1945 (one species), Strongylogaster Dahlbom, 1835 (seven species) and Taxonus Hartig, 1837 (three species) are surveyed and briefl y diagnosed. Strongylogaster baikalensis Naito, 1990 and Dinax ermak (Zhelochovtsev, 1968) are newly recorded species for the Czech Republic. The larvae of Strongylogaster baikalensis, Taxonus sticticus (Klug, 1817), Taxonus alboscutellatus Niezabitowski, 1899 and Dinax ermak are described and illustrated for the fi rst time and new data on their biology are provided. Identifi cation keys for the adults and larvae of the Central European species of Strongylogaster and Taxonus are given. Key words. Hymenoptera, Symphyta, Dinax, Strongylogaster, Taxonus, new records, larvae, identifi cation keys, host plants, faunistics, Albania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic Introduction Since the last check-list of the Symphyta of the former Czechoslovakia (BENEŠ 1989), the number of the sawfl ies species known from the Czech Republic and Slovakia increased notably during the last decade (Czech Republic: MACEK 2006, 2008; Slovakia: ROLLER 1999, ROLLER & HARIS 2008), as long-term fi eldwork combining various collecting methods (Malaise traps, yellow pan traps, sweeping and rearing of larvae) conducted in various parts of the Czech Republic provided numerous new records. This paper deals with species of Dinax Konow, 1897, Strongylogaster Dahlbom, 1835 and Taxonus Hartig, 1837, and is the fi rst part of a series of planned contributions which would summarize the results of recent research on the taxonomy, distribution and host plants of sawfl ies in the Czech Republic.
