July, I love this month! Corn on the cob, green beans with potatoes, the nice tan you get pulling weeds, weeds, weeds after so much rain! But tonight we are going to have fun and enjoy our guest and each other. This is a week I always look forward to - Quilters Hall of Fame Celebration week! Everyone is excited for our Honoree Ruth McDowell and her family is so happy...it is such a special time and we have such great teachers giving wonderful classes and lectures. There will be many quilts on display, ven- dors to shop from and fun events. It always inspires and motivates me to do more and I hope that is what you feel when you come to our meeting - inspired and motivated and run- ning home to sew and create and above all to share! See you at Celebration! Proud to serve as Leader of the Pack, Sherry What’s Happening EBONY LOVE EVENTS Tonight? July 14 (TONIGHT) Ebony Love Lecture “Quilts to Die For” “Quilts to Die For” July 15 Half Day Workshop $25 July 16 Drunkard’s Path Workshop at Always in Stitches (see their website) THANK YOU!!! (Your Name Could be Here) For Sponsoring This Newsletter Sew What Happened Last Month….? The Evening Star members held their summer supper in Pendleton in June. Sherry welcomed members and we had 1 new member, Anita McDaniels daughter Brenda. With Brenda’s addition it makes 3 gen- erations of quilters. The hostesses for June were Sharon McElfresh, Ann Shafer and Gykala Jones. They did a wonderful job, the tables and decorations were beautiful, and it goes without saying the food was great! Donna Hartman told us about an upcoming workshop with Ebony Love, a nationally known quilter and designer. Cost of the workshop is $25.00 and will be held July 15 at the McElfresh estate. Sign up will be held at the July meeting, which is the second Monday of July to coordinate with celebration and Ebony Love’s visit. The workshop is called Hopscotch Block Party and the evening star members will be the test market. Speaking of The Quilters Hall of Fame Celebration, Sherry told the members that Arnold Savage will be there all day on July 19th. There were lots of show and tell, some from Connie Combs workshop and 17 out of the box challenge pieces. They were all great! Sharon Liptow won the prize for regular show and tell and Donna Hartman won the drawing for out of the box challenge. Coming events include Shipshewana Quilt Festival and Shop Hop, June 25 - 28th and our own Linda Lupton will be teaching a class. Quilters Hall of Fame classes are filling up so hurry and get your reservations in so you don’t miss out. Marie Webster quilt guild has invited us to enter quilts to show at the event. For more info contact Sherry McConnell. The July meeting will be held back at the Church, and will be a week early, on July 14. See you all there. Friendship Star Quilters Quiltline September 2004 President’s Message Next Meeting: September!!! I can hardly believe it. No more pool! No more trips to the September 20, 2004 lake! Cold weather! Today the neighborhood kids went to meet their 7:30 PM teachers for next year. Jo-Ann’s has already started putting pumpkins on clearance sale and leaves are falling! I am not ready for this. My daughter has come back from England and is now (with the cat I had all Speaker: Barbara Olson summer) teaching at Mississippi State, my son starts flying to China this “Designing Outside the Lines” month instead of Peru & I am pulling wallpaper off the guest room walls. This is such a busy month for all of us but we must make time to quilt. Coming in October: Mimi Dietrich The Fair is over and, although the new air conditioning may cause problems hanging quilts in our show, I was really happy to see the support many of you showed for our County Fair by submitting quilts. There were so many ribbons on Friendship Star quilts that I am at a loss WHAT’S INSIDE to name them all. We did well, ladies. Quilt Day at the Fair also went very well. I had a great time with all of you who came and worked with Upcoming Programs ....... 2 FSQ Officers ............. 3 us. The weather was spectacular, so fewer of the public felt the need to Minutes of Last Meeting .... 4 come in out of the heat and we had fewer people tying.

Last week was a truly busy but wonderful week for me and the quilting world with the Induction of Mimi Dietrich into The Quilters Hall of Fame! She is delightful and one of the great things about Induction Week is that you get to meet the family of the Hon- oree. Mimi's husband Bob came and helped hang her quilts in Marie Webster House and the rest of her family came to help share in her Induction ceremony. We tease about the time we spend quilting, about the money we spend on quilting and we tease about not hav- ing time to cook or clean because of quilting, but we quilt not just for ourselves but for those same supportive families who sleep under our quilts, hang our quilts on their walls and wait for the next quilt that we get done hoping it has been made just for them! So here is to our families for making it possible for us to do the thing we love the most!! Proud to serve as Leader of the Pack, Sherry What’s Happening Tonight?
