Das Zebras, 8, 1300-589 Lisboa RICARDO CAMACHO (b. 1979) holds an Advanced Master’s Degree at the Graduate School of Design, Harvard University, with grant from Luso-American Foundation and Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and a Master degree in Architecture (TU Lisbon), Erasmus Grant for Planning and Urbanism at the Politecnico di Milano. Principal research scholar, between fall 2011 and spring 2013 for the project “Resilient Coastal Environments”, a comparative study between the coastal territories of Portugal and Croatia with a grant from European Union for building technology and territorial management developed at Northeastern University, School of Architecture.. This program extended collaborations with the University of Coimbra, Evora and Algarve in Portugal and Split in Croatia. In parallel he is been Assistant Instructor and Guest Critic at Kuwait University Ungraduate Architecture Program, Urban Design and Architecture Studios from spring 2011. Since fall 2014 Ricardo is research associate at Dar Al Athar Al Islamiyya Kuwait with a grant from the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science for the production of an exhibition and publication 'Kuwait Modern Architecture' which features the local building production between 1949-89. The project comprises two volumes, the first released in March 2016 and the second in September 2016, both by Niggli publishing house from Switzerland. As an architect since 2003, Ricardo has worked in Germany, Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, Brazil, UK, USA, Morocco, Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain and Qatar. Principal of Casa Granturismo he led collaborations with world renowned practices such as Yoshiharu Tsukamoto and Momoyo Kaijima, Fernando Romero, Angelo Bucci, Mauricio Pezo and Sofia von Ellrichshausen, Aljoša Dekleva and Tina Gregorič, Hrvoje Njiric, Sasa Randic and is author of several building and urban design projects in Portugal and Kuwait. After extending his practice in to Kuwait in 2009, Ricardo accomplished the reconversion of a significant section of Kuwait City Green Belt (Al Shaheed Park phases I and II for the Amiri Diwan) as lead architect and still developing his practice in this country. He has been invited for lectures, seminars, jury critics and workshops in Portugal, Spain, Croatia, Albania, USA, Kuwait, Lebanon and UAE. In 2004 he was awarded at the Ibero-American Biennale in Lima, Peru as part of the collective Emitflesti, as one out of two emergent practice in Portugal. Latter, in 2007 awarded with the prize for Young Entrepreneur of the Year by the Rotary Club in the south of Portugal and in 2009 nominated for the PAYS.MED.URBAN, the Mediterranean prize for urban development. During those years Ricardo was curator of several international seminars on Architecture, Building Conservation, Preservation and Tourism and co-author of “Habitar Portugal 2006/2009” and participant in several other publications in Ricardo Camacho_07.2016 2 magazine and journals from Portugal, Croatia and Kuwait. Since practice in Kuwait his efforts as researcher were exhibited at the RIBA in London 2011 and Boston Society of Architects in 2012. In the same year he was invited as jury for Portugal and Kuwait at the The Second Edition Of Worldwide Architecture in Venice, nominated deputy curator of the Kuwait first participation in the Venice Biennale of Architecture and he was the curator of Kuwait Modern Architecture Conference. This building, with a footprint of 3,095 SF has an historical but no of-right allows its vertical expansion up to 155 feet in a total of 14 stories and an FAR of 10.0. The project comprises the development of a vision and design concept for its expansion into a mixed- use building with Residences, Offices and Retail in a total FAR of 30,950 SF. 8 Harrison Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts, Square Lobby & Residences Identity June 2016 – present CRESSET has acquired part of 8 Harrison Avenue to Verizon. The building, commonly referred to as a B- building, is a late-1800s brick warehouse with 8-story which was occupied by switchboard equipment of the early Bell Atlantic Company. It is located on a wide crossing between Harrison Ave., Chauncy Str. and Essex Str. generating a triangular square which is currently a poorly kept and fully asphalted site with somewhat chaotic parking. The project includes: Landscape Concept Design for the Square that can be presented to the City, the Community and the Abutters; Interior Design Concept for the Lobby including transition to ground- floor area amenities with gym, mailroom and bike racks; Alternative concept schemes for 3 typical residential typologies in order to explore potential gains of efficiency and lifestyle; Graphic Identity Package that ties the concept of the building, of the square and the lobby holistically and that can serve as a marketing basis for the building. AC MARRIOT HOTEL, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Hotel & River Front Park development, May 2016 - present Boston based developer Cathartes is proprietor of two plots in 299 Vaughn Street in Portsmouth, NH, with an extensive riverfront area adjacent to 3S Artspace. The buildable part of the plot has an area of 56,073 sf and a waterfront area of 53,018 sf. The proposal comprehends a GF+5 storey AC Marriot hotel unit with a BUA of 77,292 sf and 140 guestrooms. As a contribution to the city and the environment surrounding the hotel and and the art center, the proposal includes a small Riverside Park that will serve the local community as part of a wider city program. The park includes pathway for sports, recreation and cultural activities. Ricardo Camacho_07.2016 5 Managing Partner at Promontorio Kuwait, Location: Kuwait June 2013 – present Murouj Park (Phase III) Location: Kuwait February 2016 – present Architecture Head of Design and Coordination for the scopes of Architecture, Urban Design, Landscape, Structural and Mep design for Murouj Complex, Phase III. A 60,000 sqm site between Kuwait Equestrian Center, the Horse Racecourse and Sahara Golf Course Resort. The developer Jazeera Real Estate built and operates the Murouj Phases II and II comprising restaurants complex and children entertainment large indoor facility. Following the success of the previous phases the developer decided to expand further south the complex including a Urban Park with 49,000sqm and diverse facilities including an Amusement Park with 5,000sqm, a Multipurpose Hall with 2,000sqm, a Restaurant complex with 18 units and a large surface parking for 500lots. The project will start construction during July 2016. Qadisiya Sporting Club Location: Kuwait May 2016 – Competition, under evaluation Head of Design for the scopes of Urban Design and Master Planning for the old Sports Complex of Qadisiya Sporting Club in Hawally comprising the football stadium, the Olympic Sports Hall, Swimming Pool, Squash Arena and Tennis Courts. The project also includes new accessibility from the adjacent roads, parking and a large retail component. Al Mulla Group Old Headquarters Location: Kuwait November 2015 – present Head of Design for the scopes of Urban Design and Master Planning for the old Al Mulla Group Head Quarters in Kuwait City with a plot area of 12,0007 sqm. The proposal includes the site Master Plan and Architectural and Landscape theming. The scope considers the division of the existing plot, as per Kuwait Master Plan, in three plot units for the development of retail with 7,015sqm in the base and three towers considering 17,538 sqm of residential and 47,600sqm of office typologies.
