Surrounded by her loving family, Rita A. Ortiz, 69 of Kansas City, MO, was called home by her lord and savior on Friday, January 4, 2013 peacefully from her home. Rita was born April 9, 1943 to Manuel Barrera and Gerarda Amador. On August 17, 1963 she married Paul Ortiz Jr. and they had 5 daughters. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Richard, Manuel, Andrew, Benny, Daniel, and Frank Barrera; and sisters Victoria Pacheco, Abelina Balderas and Eleanor Lopez. Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Paul; daughters, Andrea (Joe) Arroyo, Monica Ortiz, Paulette Ortiz, Gerarda (Sam Sparks) Ortiz and Teresa Rodriguez; 7 grandchildren whom she loved very much, Sierra, Christopher, Serena, Ramon, Anthony, Paul, and Carlos; and her brother, John Barrera. Visitation was this past Tuesday, January 8, and a Rosary was prayed at McGilley Midtown Chapel, Kansas City, MO. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Guardian Angels Church on Wednesday, Jan 9, and she was laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. Rita was a very giving person and was actively involved at her church and community. She always wanted to help others. She loved to travel but most of all she loved spending time with her family.
