Reviews LORI JENAIRE - Fruition

Committed and knowing indie jazz and soul fans will know all about the talents of Lori Jenaire – her work has been consistently good. Now with this new 12-tracker – aptly called “Fruition”, Lori’s music moves to another level. Working with Gladys Knight’s musical director Scott Cannady, Lori has crafted a wonderful indie soul set that demands investigation from anyone who digs divas like the aforementioned Gladys Knight or Anita Baker – to who’s prime time work this album most resembles. Highly recommended. (4 out of 5)

Review/ Lori Jenaire Chanteuse Extraordinaire

You really can't fault anyone for not putting velvet voiced, L.A. chanteuse Lori Jenaire's newest, Fruition, commence to enjoy exquisite fare. Jenaire smoothly shifts from the sweltering heat of signature cuts like "If You Were Mine" and "Magic Mona" off her incredible debut Within Reach to a fine tradeoff, sweet cool personified. It's hard to remember a time R&B-soul had it so good: hands down, following Within Reach, the superb Fruition gives this singular talent back-to-back hit .

Soulchoonz Reviews Lori Jenaire - Fruition

I am so happy to see that the wonderful Lori Jenaire has released another album. I loved a number of songs on “Within Reach” and I have to say that in my honest opinion this album is better. It’s more consistent and captivating and elevates everything that was excellent about her last set even higher. I understand why the set is called “Fruition”. This particular batch of fruits are simply mouth watering and delicious. I focus my attention from track three, “Matter Of Time” because this is where the album really starts. Lovers of her “Within Reach” CD will simply salivate over the sultry, soulful music, which Lori is perfect at.

This is not to be missed. Beautiful music from a beautiful Lady, and an album that exceeds all my expectations of what I thought a follow-up CD could offer. You really cannot miss this set. Shame on you if you do!

Lori Jenaire - Fruition

What has happened to songs of romance, love lost and found, and intimacy rather than not sex? Lori Jenaire's 12 track CD, Fruition, is the answer. Lori Jenaire showed in her previous work that she is no stranger to quality adult music, and she's back and in good form on Fruition. This 6-foot Chicago-born beauty has a powerful voice which she uses effectively in both neo-soul and jazz settings.

Lori's beautifully designed CD displays a cover photo that is reminiscent of , of beauty and simplicity, creating an aura for the CD contents. She opens Fruition with a quiet updating of the vintage Mamas and Papas song, "California Dream" painting a picture of love, warmth, and beauty. Songs "Unexpected Storm," "Pictures," "Pieces" and "Better Now" are songs of deep passion and of love lost and found. Fruition is for mature audiences. Play at your own risk -- it can be addictive. Lori Jenaire Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart

What a shocker this one was! The fantastic Motown classic that was covered in the 80’s by Lisa gets a BIG welcomed 2008 makeover! Will be one of the biggies this moth for sure! Includes remixes by Ellis Miah and Eddie Baez. Run, don’t walk.

Amazing vocals and great remixes from Eddie Baez. I love it!!! (W.A., 01/10/2008)

Fantastic. Lori's voice really makes this and never gets overpowered by yet another excellent Eddie Baez remix. I would never have imagined an old Supremes song could sound brand new. I want more! (r.p., 12/21/2007)

YEP. Motown mania lives on. First, got everything started in 2006. Then that fab Dreamgirls Remixed CD surfaced. Then, & The Supremes gave us the "Remix" CD in 2007. Finally in December the now hard to find mixes by Blaze of "Family" surface again on the Blaze Imprints label. But LORI JENAIRE is the whipped cream at the end of your 2007 Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha . And we couldn't ask for more as Eddie Baez turns it out. (P.M., 12/21/2007)

I LoooooooVE it!!! Very good circuit sound with powerfull black women voice....it should be more mixs with singers like Lori Jenaire and much less mixs with Erika Jayne,Stevie Jewel and other boring white singers.... So, the best mix is definitively "Eddie Baez Club Edit" and this single is highly recommended!!! :-) (A.Y., 12/20/2007)

Last Call: You may not have heard of Lori before but after listening to “Within Reach” (people will probably start comparing her vocal stylings to Anita Baker) with its quiet storm sound, she will be making a name for herself on both the Jazz and R&B airwaves.

Soul Express Album of the Month

May 2005

LORI JENAIRE Within Reach (US Goddess) Lori Jenaire’s CD Within Reach must have been the best kept secret in the quality soul circles recently, but now this self-released album is finally starting to get more exposure in the media. The CD is now also available through our own CD Shop.

On her Website, Lori is introduced as “rapidly carving her niche in the world neo- jazz/soul”. The Chicago native is compared to legendary soul and jazz singers like Sarah Vaughn, Anita Baker and Phyllis Hyman. And indeed, the comparisons with Phyllis are more than apt especially on a ballad titled Magic Mona, which is a film tune Phyllis Hyman originally recorded in 1979, and Phyllis’ version was recently included in Phyllis’ Expansion CD In Between the Heartaches. The old song (from Stylistics’ repertoire) You’re as Right as Rain as well as the Rayford Griffin –produced Anything also closely echoes Phyllis’ ballad style. The last mentioned boasts an excellent musical backdrop crowned by a gorgeous trumpet solo.

Even more spellbinding on Lori’s album is, though, her version of the Angela Bofill song Under the Moon and Over the Sky (originally from Angie’s 1978 debut set), on which the luscious jazzy backing strongly reminds me of Fertile Ground at their very best. A splendid track which was finally nominated as the number one song in our own Quality Time Top 50 of 2004!

Other tracks worth noting include the melodious mid-ballad The Way You Love Me, at least equally catchy Don’t Need to Know, the stylish opener If You Were Mine and the magical self-written I Do, on which John Hart plays the superb jazzy bass lines. In other magazines, some critics have reviewed the CD as if it were straight jazz, but in fact this is no more jazz oriented than any typical Phyllis Hyman or Angela Bofill album – the only track that belongs to the “real jazz” category is Lori’s version of the old jazz standard I Wish You Love, which is set in a classic acoustic jazz trio setting (drums, bass and saxophone). As such, it’s a more than a successful interpretation. Another essential purchase!
