Press Information Meet the Heroes of Le Mans Mission 2014. Our Return. Porsche at Le Mans Meet the Heroes of Le Mans • Porsche and the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1 Porsche and the 24 Hours of Le Mans Porsche in the starting line-up for 63 years The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the most famous endurance race in the world. The post-war story of the 24 Heures du Mans begins in the year 1949. And already in 1951 – the pro - duction of the first sports cars in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen commenced in March the previous year – a small delegation from Porsche KG tackles the high-speed circuit 200 kilometres west of Paris in the Sarthe department. Class victory right at the outset for the 356 SL Aluminium Coupé marks the beginning of one of the most illustrious legends in motor racing: Porsche and Le Mans. Race cars from Porsche have contested Le Mans every year since 1951. The reward for this incredible stamina (Porsche is the only marque to have competed for 63 years without a break) is a raft of records, including 16 overall wins and 102 class victories to 2013. The sporting competition and success at the top echelon of racing in one of the world’s most famous arenas is as much a part of Porsche as the number combination 911. After a number of class wins in the early fifties with the 550, the first time on the podium in the overall classification came in 1958 with the 718 RSK clinching third place.

Deutsche Version 42. ADAC Zurich 24h-Rennen vom 19. bis 22. Juni 2014: 24h in Zahlen 14 .

  • 500Th DTM Race and Manufacturers' Title Within Reach
Audi MediaInfo Motorsport Communications Virginia Brusch Tel: +49 151 52817968 E-mail: [email protected] www.audi -mediacenter.com/en 500th DTM race and manufacturers’ title within reach • DTM to celebrate a special jubilee at the Lausitzring • Audi drivers talk about their very personal DTM highlights • Chance of securing an early manufacturers’ championship win Neuburg a. d. Donau, August 19, 2019 – A jubilee in the DTM and the first chance for the Four Rings to score a proverbial match point: in the 500th DTM race at the Lausitzring on Sunday (August 25), Audi may be able to secure an early manufacturers’ championship win. Audi has scored 710 points in the first twelve races and its closest rival, BMW, 426. If its advantage grows by another 20 points this weekend, the brand will be sitting in the top spot out of its rivals’ reach before the two remaining race weekends at the Nürburgring (September 14/15) and at Hockenheim (October 5/6). “Traditionally, the drivers’ title has the highest value in the DTM,” says Head of Audi Motorsport Dieter Gass. “But the manufacturers’ title is very valuable, too. It’s a strong indicator for the work of the entire squad and also for who has the best car. We’ve been very happy so far with the performance of our Audi RS 5 DTM and the new two-liter four-cylinder turbo engine.” Audi has previously celebrated seven DTM victories at the Lausitzring, but also had to accept a round with zero points in Saturday’s race last year. The TV footage of René Rast’s spectacular rollover is unforgotten.

www.porscheroadandrace.com Porsche’s road to Le Mans Published: 4th June 2017 By: Glen Smale Online version: https://www.porscheroadandrace.com/porsches-road-to-le-mans/ The #91 Porsche 911 RSR driven by Richard Lietz and Frederic Makowiecki rounds Malmedy during the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps on 6 May 2017 Sixty-six years ago, on 24 June 1951, the first Porsche was pushed tentatively onto the starting grid of the 1951 Le Mans 24 Hour race. The lone, diminutive 356 SL would finish in a remarkable twentieth place overall. Fifty-one years ago, on 19 June 1966, the first Porsche 911 would see action in the 24-hour race, and finish in a commendable fourteenth place overall and scooping first place in the Grand Touring 2000 class, in a year that saw Ford make a clean sweep of the podium. Below are several remarkable and memorable www.porscheroadandrace.com milestones on Porsche’s road to Le Mans. Jacques Dewez and Jean Kerguen start the 1966 Le Mans race on 19 June 1966 driving the #35 911 2.0 Coupé. They would finished 14th overall and 1st in the GT 2.0 Class www.porscheroadandrace.com Perhaps all the more remarkable about the 1966 race was the fact that the single 911 S was in near-standard trim. Entered by privateer Jacques Dewez, and driven by himself and Jean Kerguen, the French pairing drove a solid race and finished behind five Porsche 906s and eight prototypes. The following year, the field included four privateer 911s, with the highest finisher being in fourteenth place once again.

  • Le Mans 1979 – the Year of the 935
Le Mans 1979 – the year of the 935 After the works Porsche 936s dropped out, three private 935s took all the podium places at the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans. The fastest drivers were Klaus Ludwig and Rolf Stommelen. The works team had initially decided against participating at Le Mans in 1979. However, the situation changed when the oil broker David Thieme and his Essex Overseas Petroleum Corporation funded the entry of two 936s to be driven by Jacky Ickx and Brian Redman and by Bob Wollek and Hurley Haywood respectively. As by far the fastest cars among the field, these two Porsche 936s dominated the training session and led the pack in the opening hours of the race. However, Ickx then suffered tyre damage that caused him to spin and collide with the barriers. Following one and a half hours of repairs, the Belgian driver’s efforts to make up for lost time were interrupted when a torn timing belt brought him to a standstill on the Mulsanne Straight.
