Porsche at Le Mans Meet the Heroes of Le Mans • Porsche and the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1 Porsche and the 24 Hours of Le Mans Porsche in the starting line-up for 63 years The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the most famous endurance race in the world. The post-war story of the 24 Heures du Mans begins in the year 1949. And already in 1951 – the pro - duction of the first sports cars in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen commenced in March the previous year – a small delegation from Porsche KG tackles the high-speed circuit 200 kilometres west of Paris in the Sarthe department. Class victory right at the outset for the 356 SL Aluminium Coupé marks the beginning of one of the most illustrious legends in motor racing: Porsche and Le Mans. Race cars from Porsche have contested Le Mans every year since 1951. The reward for this incredible stamina (Porsche is the only marque to have competed for 63 years without a break) is a raft of records, including 16 overall wins and 102 class victories to 2013. The sporting competition and success at the top echelon of racing in one of the world’s most famous arenas is as much a part of Porsche as the number combination 911. After a number of class wins in the early fifties with the 550, the first time on the podium in the overall classification came in 1958 with the 718 RSK clinching third place. -

Classic DMT CA36a Opel Calibra DMT/ITC 1996 - Hockenheimring #9 - Manuel Reuter Opel LotusCalibra 72 The Opel Calibra V6 is a racing car designed to take part in the German DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft), the German Tourism Car Championship that at the time was the technical pinnacle for touring cars. Racing was restricted to Class 1 (first division or D1) cars. The regulation mandated a maximum capacity of 2,5 liters and a maximum of 6 cylinders, derived from approved models and produced in at least 25,000 specimens. Rules also allowed dramatic changes to the car’s motor and chassis, provided that the body shape was maintained. Opel entered the last race of 1993 as a test for the real début, which took place the following year with a car which was ready to compete against Alfa Romeo and Mercedes. In 1996, when the championship had already changed its name to ITC, Opel managed to win both the driver’s and the constructor’s championship titles. This car reproduces the official number 9 car with which Manuel Reuter raced the Hockenheimring race in 1995. For Immediate Release – Wednesday 16 th March 2011 SILVERLINE CHEVROLET CONFIRM THEIR RETURN IN BTCC 2011 Defending champions, RML Silverline-Chevrolet have confirmed they will make their much anticipated return this year to the UK's favourite motor racing series, the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. With the ever-popular pairing of last year's champion Jason Plato and rising star Alex MacDowall officially signed up, the team is looking ahead with excitement to the opening round which takes place at Brands Hatch in less than three weeks on 2 nd & 3 rd April. Joining the field again this year is the fiercely competitive RML-run Silverline Chevrolet Cruze which will appear in a different guise as Jason and Alex get to grips with the 2010 WTCC chassis, as raced to Drivers' and Manufacturers' titles with Yvan Muller, Rob Huff, Alain Menu and RML – the touring car giants of the modern era - in the FIA World Touring Car Championship. The Wellingborough-based squad has yet to unveil the striking 2011 challenger in full livery with the complete group of partners, which will take place at the BTCC Media Day, Silverstone, on 24 th March. But a successful test on the Brands Hatch Indy track last week alongside other series' front-runners saw the Cruzes run for the first time on UK soil in BTCC trim since their return from Macau last December. The team is confident they've got the package to beat with Jason, Alex and a technically advanced Silverline Chevrolet Cruze that looks set to be even more impressive on track than its predecessor. -

3 February 2006 Maserati Celebrates Its Champions
Date: 3 February 2006 Maserati celebrates its Champions Trident Drivers and Teams from last Season. First look at 2006 Programme. The prize giving ceremony to award drivers and teams who competed in a Maserati car in 2005 takes place this evening in Modena. At international level, Maserati won the FIA GT Constructors' title thanks to the efforts of Vitaphone Racing Team and JMB Racing. Further, the Vitaphone Racing Team triumphed in the Team championship and in the prestigious 24 Hours of Spa, claiming Maserati's first ever win in a 24-Hour race. The Michael Bartels/Timo Scheider/Eric Van de Poele squad crossed the line ahead of the other MC12 driven by Bertolini/Wendlinger/Peter. It was a clear demonstration of the reliability of the cars bearing the Trident badge. In total, there were three wins aside from that claimed at Spa: Magny Cours courtesy of Andrea Bertolini/Karl Wendlinger; at Oschersleben with Fabio Babini/Thomas Biagi; and at Istanbul where Michael Bartels/Timo Scheider took the chequered flag. In the Italian GT championship, team Racing Box finished in second place overall thanks to five wins obtained by Piergiuseppe Perazzini/Gabriele Matteuzzi. Another significant result was secured at the 6 Hours of Vallelunga, a 'classic' endurance race that is run at the end of the season. Here, the winning crew was made up of Davide Mastracci/Michele Serafini/Leonardo Maddalena. In the Trofeo Nazionale CSAI GT3, the Maserati Lights stormed a path through the competition with three cars that secured all the places on the championship podium. Andrea Palma and Danilo Zampaloni were the overall winners in their AF Corse car. -

Hier kommt Kurt – Kurt Thiim – Fahrerportrait TWC 2019 22. Mai 2019, Rainer Braun Wenn Entertainer Frank Zander bei den DTM-Rennen der 90er-Jahre auf der Avus zu Gast war, trällerte er immer gerne zur Freude des Publikums seiner Heimatstadt Berlin aus einem seiner beliebten Spaß-Songs diese leicht abgewandelte Passage: „Hier kommt Kurt, heute mal mit Helm und auch mit Gurt, einfach Kurt, der nicht quengelt und nicht murrt“… Die über Strecken-Mikrofon vorgetragene Zander-Botschaft galt Mercedes-Pilot Kurt Thiim, der auf der Avus oft genug einen Startplatz in Reihe 1 bezog. Tatsächlich trifft vor allem die zweite Zeile dieses Spaß-Reims punktgenau eine Eigenschaft des Rennfahrers Kurt Thiim, die von all seinen Teamchefs stets geschätzt wurde. Keine Politik, kein Maulen über dies und das, keine Intrigen. Kurt war und ist einfach ein ruhiger, bodenständiger und fairer Zeitgenosse – und daran hat sich bis heute nichts geändert. Jetzt will der mittlerweile 60jährige Däne als Botschafter für Mercedes Classic nur noch den Kontakt zum Motorsport genießen und sich mit seinem Sohn Nicki über dessen Rennerfolge als Jung-Profi freuen. Dass sich der Mercedes-Hero der „alten DTM“ auch noch den einen oder anderen Start in seinem ehemaligen Arbeitsgerät gönnt, macht ihn schon seit einigen Jahren zum Bestandteil der Tourenwagen Classics. So auch 2019, wo im Mercedes 190 E von Roland Hölscher (Start-Nr. 201) einige Male antreten möchte. Wie viele seiner Kollegen hat auch Kurt seine Karriere im Kartsport begonnen. Nach dem Gewinn der dänischen Meisterschaft ging es über die Formel Ford und die Formel Super V gleich weiter in die Formel 3, die er 1984 mit dem Gewinn der Deutschen Meisterschaft abschloss. -
