KINROSS BAGKSTAGE AT THE GREEN HOTEL Con rts rkshops Song Com etition Sessions THE BOYS OF THE LOUGH The Boys began life in 1967 with a line-up consisting of Cathal McConnell, Aly Bain, Mike Whellans, Dick Gaughan, Robin Morton and Tommy Gunn and have continued to perform and entertain internationally ever since. Despite their various reincarnations, they have, however, continued to display the amazing music for which they are treasured and are still regarded as one of the finest bands in Celtic traditional music, their technical brilliance and integrity of performing lrish and Scottish music remaining intact over the decades. lt is a huge pleasure for the Club to have the Boys perform at our 40th Birthday Bash; tonight's line-up consists of Cathal, Brendan Begley, Kevin Henderson and Gary O'Brian, all stars in their own right. Ceud Mile Failte BOL! RICHARD DIGANCE. A first visit to our Feast for the multi-talented and multi-award winning singer-songwriter, recording artiste, comedian and all-round entertainer Richard Digance. A truly top-line performer, his popularity has grown and grown and it is now our turn to host his talents. Having achieved his 50th anniversary in the performing arts last year, it is with great excitement that we have invited Richard to share our 40th this year! JOHN DOYLE Another huge welcome return to the Club for the lrish guitar wizard John Doyle. Having climbed the ranks of fame through his performances with the greatest names in lrish music and with Transatlantic Sessions, John is now impossibly in-demand as a solo artist. He is immensely talented and blessed with an acute ear, a wicked sense of rhythm and a seemingly endless stream of range in his playing, performing and producing. John has now established himself as one of the most versatile, creative and prolific voices in folk and traditional lrish music. THE JAMES BROTHERS AND EMILY SMITH. As a result of their appearance at our Feast 2 years ago, we had to invite our Antipodean pals James Fagan and Jamie McClennan back for a return visit. However, on this occasion they are to be joined by the multi-award winning folk superstar (and Jamie's wife!) Emily Smith. The combination will ensure that we are able to bring our 40th Birthday celebrations to a suitable climax with a mix of high energy musicianship, wonderful vocals and sumptuous harmonies. A truly great act to finish a truly great Folk Feast. MAIREARAD AND ANNA We are delighted to open our Saturday concert with two of Scotland's most revered multi-instrumentalists, Mairearad Green and Anna Massie who combine to form one of the best folk duos in Britain today. They offer accordion, bagpipes, guitar, banjo, mandolin and fiddle to produce a breathtaking example of Scottish music at its very best. Having performed at our Feast in the past, we welcome them back to our 40th anniversary as very, very special guests. PAULINE ALEXANDER AND SANDY STANAGE. Both having appeared at the Club in the past in a variety of disguises, we welcome Pauline and Sandy back as a duo which combines incredibly pure vocals with equally fine guitar playing. Their natural talent is beautifully balanced delivering a performance which is spellbinding and which contains both original material alongside interpretations, both believing that a good song is a good song regardless of the genre. Welcome back folks. THE SENSATIONAL JIMI SHANDRIX EXPERIENCE Fronted by the legendary Sandy Brechin on accordion, The Sensational Jimi Shandrix Experience has established itself a reputation as one of the top ceilidh bands in the world. As regular headliners at Edinburgh's Hogmanay street party and at Celtic Connections, it is only right that the boys will step up to provide our very own 40th birthday party ceilidh entertainment! So, come and dance, laugh, and enjoy the incredible "Shandrix". TICH FRIER As an original Club member, it is a pleasure to invite Tich to take to the stage again at our ceilidh-concert. He has enjoyed an amazing career in folk music since his first steps with Bitter Withy in the 60s and he continues to demonstrate the same vocal ability, musicianship and humour which have been his trademark over the years. A huge welcome back Tich. THE FARG FOLK For the past 'l 5 years, The Fargies have always been a very important part of our reputation as a fine singing club and their chorus songs have been used as a vehicle to set the scene for our evening concerts . On this occasion, the start of our 40th anniversary of our Folk Feast, they will offer a glimpse of the past when 4 of their original line-up, Doris Rougvie, Duncan McNab, Stan Ginter and Hamish Grant, will put in an appearance as a form of retrospective. They will combine their music with a former member, Philip Ponton, and a guest appearance from a former Club personality! Ha, ha, the suspense is killing! CHARLIE STEWART Having first performed at the Club as a very young local fiddler some years ago, we are now honoured to welcome Charlie back to undertake a workshop as the 2017 winner of the Radio Scotland Young Musician of the Year award; a young man on the march! CATHAL MCCONNELL An internationally famous musician, brilliant story-teller and wonderful old- school character, Cathal has been performing since the 60s when he first became the All-lreland Champion in both flute and whistle. Since then he has been with Boys of the Lough through all their various re-incarnations! A craic-filled conversation event guaranteed!
