AUSTIN, TX November 5-7, 2017 Westin at The Domain Texas GEAR UP State Grant Texas Education Agency GEAR UP FAST FACTS GEAR UP is a federal grant program designed to increase the number of low-income 2006-2012 students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. GEAR Baylor University – 2,639 Students UP provides six- or seven-year competitive matching grants to deliver services at El Paso Community College – 1,070 Students high-poverty middle and high schools. GEAR UP grantees serve an entire cohort of El Paso ISD – 3,037 Students students beginning no later than the seventh grade and follow the cohort through high Pasadena ISD – 4,523 Students school. GEAR UP funds may also be used to provide college scholarships to low-income Texas Education Agency – 8,335 Students students. 2007-2013 Texas GEAR UP consists of state and partnership grants that provide services to Amarillo College – 1,651 Students students, schools, and families designed to increase college attendance and success. Texas A&M International University – 974 Students This is accomplished through outreach, rigorous coursework, mentoring, tutoring, college access, and college-financing education. All GEAR UP grants operate through 2008-2014 partnerships with public and private entities in order to best coordinate and leverage the Texas A&M University – 1,098 Students wealth of resources available to students within state and local communities.
